    Applying shampoo :
•only wash your scalp because it will dry out your hair if you put it everywhere
•try to put the shampoo up into your scalp kind of pushing upward
•your focusing on cleaning your scalp not your hair
•never apply shampoo directly to your ends
•don’t lather up the shampoo in your hands
    Suds:
    •professional shampoos create suds
•when you see tons of suds your hair is clean
    Two washing:
•oil is really hard to clean from a pan and it’s the same with hair so you need to wash it twice
    Conditioning:
•apply to your mids and your ends
•if you have dry hair use more conditioner
•you can get away with putting a little conditioner on your scalp
•you want to keep a little bit of conditioner in your hair
•Temperature does not matter so don’t think you have to take really cold showers to wash your hair bc it makes no difference
I’m just putting stuff down I found important but if you’re reading this have a good day

It is so refreshing to listen to a hair dresser who isn’t interested in trying to push a suite of products onto you to achieve an outcome and actually shares techniques that WORK.
I didn’t know how to properly wash my hair before washing this video. After I wash my hair, my scalp usually still wouldn’t feel clean and I could feel the “waxy” build-up still on my scalp. If I went to my local salon, they would wash it and my scalp would feel amazing. I could never figure out what I was doing wrong and, when I asked them, they just sold me products they had and insisted that was the cause, and yet my results at home would still end up being the same.
I came across this video the other day, and tried washing my hair following the techniques in the video yesterday and, oh my God, the result was night and day compared to what I normally had as a result. This time my scalp was actually CLEAN. No build-up or ‘waxy’ residue feeling - it felt exactly the same way as if I had my hair washed by a hair dresser (minus the glorious massage feeling you get if someone else does it for you).
This actually works, and your entire explanation about shampooing without lathering in hands and it will lather in your hair once it’s clean was spot on - this is exactly what happened for me. Thank you so much for being honest and sharing your knowledge without any expectation to get something from those who watch (like buying one of your products, etc.) - if I lived in your area, I’d absolutely become a client just based on your honesty and advice that is genuine and WORKS.

My hairstylist actually suggested to do the first wash with a drugstore shampoo to get the first line of dirt and oil out of your hair, and then go in with a professional shampoo for the second time. And I can tell you that has actually saved me a lot of money. I was using the professional shampoo only and I went through it so quickly 😅
I do like your tip about not lathering the shampoo in your hands though, didn't know that so def gonna try it out.
And lastly another tip my stylist gave me: if you have a lot of hair it can get difficult to actually get to your scalp on top, so flipping your head upside down and pushing your fingers through the strands onto the scalp can make it easier to reach.
Hope this helps some people and loved the video!

A lot of people with curly hair don't use shampoo at all. Curly hair is usually drier than straight hair so if you wash it too often or use a strong shampoo you can dry your hair out a lot. You may want to look up co-washing or not shampooing. Some black women I know also do what you're doing and put on a oil before washing. My hair is curly and it doesn't get dirty enough to wash until 10-12 days after the last time because my scalp doesn't make a lot of sebum (I also have dry skin). It would be nice if more mainstream hair care channels did videos on "ethnic" hair: black hair texture vs asian hair texture vs curly hair texture, etc.

Chris you’ve changed my hair to be look and feel 1 million percent better in just one month after my 3 year struggle of my hair breaking and falling out. Cannot thank you enough already
, and I share your videos daily. I have spent all evening watching your videos looking for tips to add to my new routine for my natural curls. I have started with a decent shampoo, leave in conditioner for the mids and oil on the ends. (Even though it still in a short jaw length bob) I haven’t coloured it in over a year as it’s too fragile and leave it to dry naturally to avoid extra stress with heat. Can you do a video on natural curls, how to care for them if it’s different and products to style them please. Once again thanks for your easy to digest simple tips that have already given me some confidence back. ❤ x

Wow! I cannot believe the results I got JUST from changing how I wash and condition my hair. Following Chris's instructions, I only cleaned my scalp, and didn't put the shampoo in the rest of my hair, and then I only conditioned the mids and roots. And I am just blown away by the body in my hair today! I have never had body like this. And I haven't even replaced my cheap shampoo and conditioner yet, this was just from changing the way I shampoo and condition. I can't image how great it's going to look when I switch to a professional shampoo and conditioner.

Your products recommendation are so spot on. I have fine-medium, long, wavy Asian hair. My hair has always been frizzy hence I use tons of conditioner (the thicker, the better) and less shampoo every wash day, which is everyday cause it gets greasy by midday on the 2nd day. I used the conditioner from mids to ends though, leave in on for like 3 mins then rinse off. I use hair mask too 2x a week religiously because of the frizz.
Since I found your videos and some other hair care videos last November or so, I decided to use your recommendations. Mine and my 9 yr old daughter’s hair (she has the fine, super tangly, uber dry, dull, almost blonde from chlorine hair) has never been better. I went from washing everyday to washing 3 days later to now 5 days later. It’s amazing! Less frizzy and hair is shinier! But the biggest hair transformation was my daughter’s. From the 30 mins brushing out of tangles every morning to less than 5 mins - no fights and no tears anymore! It is soft, very shiny, and her natural curls came back to life! And!!!!!!! Her scalp doesn’t smell like the perpetual chloritic, yucky smell it had! I now schedule her hair wash after her swimming lessons. Hair life has never been better! :)
I am now using your recommended products for bond repair too :)
    Thank you!!!

Tip: To make it easier to get the shampoo to the scalp, I started putting shampoo in a pump bottle or applicator bottle. I dilute it a bit with water so that it flows over my scalp a bit more, and then just put the tip all the way into my scalp and apply the shampoo in different places. That way you can apply the shampoo all the way in and evenly even if your hair is curly, brittle, tangled, or you just want to be able to do it faster. Also, if I let the bottle get to room temp I can feel where I'm getting the shampoo since it's a little cold, which helps with getting it everywhere. This method actually made a big difference to me, and I'm glad I've apparently been doing it right!

    • @baandersson2737
      @baandersson2737 Před 4 měsíci

@@dorothyihmig5881 Do you actually feel the hair getting pulled out, or do you just find a lot of extra hair coming out after shampooing? Shampooing could just be releasing hair that has been shed since the last time you washed it, but had been sticking together due to oils or product that is now being washed away. This is especially likely if you have long hair. I don't know your situation though, but it could be a (less scary) reason for why you could see extra shedding after washing rather than the shampooing itself causing the hair to get pulled out.
If you can feel it getting pulled out though, I'm not sure. Some people like using scalp massage brushes with flexible or rounded tips instead of your fingers to get the shampoo in, because you can make smaller movements while still reaching all of the scalp.

I found your channel recently and the first videos I watched was “Heatless 2-Minute Routine for Amazing Morning Hair” which led me to watch the “How to Property Wash Your Hair”, it’s been 2 weeks with my new routine, and I am so happy with my hair. I have fine hair, medium length, never colored. The issue I used to have was at the end of the second day, my hair was so oily and flat and had no volume. I hated it, so I washed my hair every day. Even though I used Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo, my hair was oily on the 2nd day after I washed it. After watching your video, I added Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo to my routine and do a 2nd wash with Paul Mitchell lemon & sage shampoo, condition with Paul Mitchell conditioner, then style as I normally do. On the morning of the second day, I use dry hair shampoo as you recommended, and boy, what a game changer. My hair still looks great, not oily at all, and the curls I do the day prior still keep its shape for the most part. I have not tried to go for the 3rd day without washing. For me, only have to wash my hair every other day is already a huge win. I want to wash every other day as I like to feel the freshness of my hair. I can’t thank you enough for these helpful educational videos. Much appreciated. Please keep up the good work.

My tip for damage-free shampoo application is to dilute some shampoo in a small glass and then I use a large needle-less syringe to squirt the shampoo water mix directly onto the scalp. It looks weird but I highly recommend it.

I have extremely thick blonde hair and I have struggled for years with buildup. My hairdresser gave me a tip, always always blow dry before bed. The way she explained it, your scalp hates moisture and will secrete extra oils to create a barrier, which leads to build up, which is exacerbated by going to bed on wet hair. Since I started doing this I have noticed a huge difference and my hair does not feel as heavy as it used to.
