I don't think it is. I do think that companies have no idea how out of touch with reality they are. This is an extremely common thing, and at one point this would have worked. People would have seen this and related to it. The problem now is that the internet exposes us to millions of lives of the rich and famous, and people are getting tired of seeing rich people on lavish vacations, eating amazing looking food, wearing the best clothing, having the best time, and then having to look at their lives and see poverty, hungry, and suffering.

There were multiple Australian shows that did this! One where a few influential figures had to live homeless and the other on unemployment payments alongside people who actually live like that. It was harrowing to watch, most of them were breaking down crying after a day or two and seriously questioning how anyone could live like that long term. Really shows that you have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to actually understand. You cannot make judgements and statements like “just work harder” or “suck it up” unless you’ve actually been in that position. My family was homeless when I was younger and the stuff people said to my parents was vile and disgusting. It makes you realise how majority of people are so privileged they can’t even empathise with situations that are out of peoples control (like the gfc) and instead blame people for “not working hard enough” like that even means anything.

While that's better than most places I've worked, it's still not the same. Doing something for a few hours knowing you're still making a large salary is not the same as 40-50 hours a week, barely getting by, stretching out to the horizon. Honestly, I'm not sure if there's a way to help. People say to take up hobbies and hang out with friends more, but coworkers aren't friends and it's hard to have hobbies when your working several jobs. I wish there was a way anyone could help, but it really feels like there's no way out.
I'm not here to make you more depressed, nor offer hollow words of support, but if it makes you feel any bit better people are slowly starting to realize they're living to work to live. It may not happen tomorrow or in the next decade, but everyday we get closer to a mental revolution...plus the old farts making sure we suffer just to eat healthier or have basic human needs approach the reaper's blade everyday as well. Life won't be infinitely better when they're gone, but it sure can have it's improvements.

8:00 is one of the most profound things, celebrities and some higher up influencers need to understand. Sure Ariana Grande works hard, it’s not the same as someone working two jobs to make ends meet or working full time and going to school full time to eventually get a job that affords you the possibility to own a home or have a child. I would argue the working class is still working harder in the grand scheme of work and social life balance. Not having to worry about money is more than half the battle.

I had to choose between work or school. I wanted to go to school, but i went to work. But i have to pay rent and eat food. I have a very small savings just so i can pay off the loans i got for my trashy ass car to keep running because I can only afford so much and a car is not in my budget at all.

this is a great take and an amazing way to give a voice to the real struggles people face. i do, however, think david lettermans example is different. his intention was more of a gesture of appreciation for a place that was a core part of his life than a self serving marketing stunt. I imagine the people of this store were glad to have letterman. he does seem like a wise person that would be aware of the interclass division regarding their place in the work force. It's strangle to admit that I "look up" to someone who I'm pretty sure is my exact same age but I really appreciate the passion and the examples you pointed out. I want to be brave enough to put my voice and passion out like you do because I think the more voices speaking on the subject of corruption on an international scale, the better. It's refreshing to hear someone express the same disgust with the state of society and its blatant hypocrisy and outright crimes against humanity. Especially when so many people are more at ease pretending that everything is fine.
