  • How i recover my Lipo batteries , after i left them uncharged for a month. When i tried to use them was totally dead. No charge ,no signal on tester. I was ready to dispose them but i found a way very fast and no extra tools / special chargers. Just a good battery and a cable.
    You will see the third battery recover. Before i recover two others. Check the video.

    Thank you very much!
    I did the same procedure and it worked GREAT. My LiPo battery didnt have the connections your had..just two VERY small connectors. I used a staple, yes a staple, bent flat and conected a charged battery for one minute, then....My charger took it and it WORKS...saved me $39
    Thanks.

    It's the same as using a smart balance charger and charge the Lipo as if it was a NIMH. As soon it gets up to 9.5v you can then charge it as a Lipo again. The problem is that most chargers won't recognize a Lipo cell if it goes below 3v. That why you charge it as a NIMH and punch it up to at least 3v per cell. But if you don't have a smart charger, this is a good solution.
    I've seen someone asking what about different lipos?
    You should be safe using this method as long you use SAME CELL COUNT lipos. This means you should only use a 3 cell Lipo to recover another 3 cell Lipo. DO NOT use this method to recover a 3 cell Lipo with a 4 or 5 cell Lipo. You cant input more than 12v in a 3 cell Lipo or 14v on a 4 cell and so on.
    Other than that, nicely done.

    I have an inexpensive bench power supply and am charging my completely dead LiPo (Did not read anything on my multimeter, except continuity). It is still charging, now using 5VDC to charge, and the pack is cold and holding 3.6v. Thanks for providing some insight that led to me reviving some otherwise-dead batteries, even if their lifespan will be short.

      Ryan Berg and you say you know more about batteries than me and gained some knowledge from this noob thread???? And sure charging dead lico batteries with a 5v power supply is a great idea. And you now assume that just because the battery holds some capacity all is ok again. Dream on....

    Had some medical and financial drawbacks recently and several lipos sat to long fully charged instead of discharged for storage and of course "went dead". I safely tried Your method in a steel charging box and saved four lipos. Great tip ! Saw a comment that stated "Purchase new lipos instead of putting Your self in danger". With lipos, just plugging them into a plane or heli or even recharging normally is a risk. I saved money I don't have and got 4 lipos back. Just use common sense and this works.

    Holy, it works! I had two dead LiPo, 11.1V 2200 mA, because I accidentally left them connected & drained completely overnight. Thus, I didn't have any working battery but fortunately, had a wall charger, 9V 2.2A, and bullet connectors. Carefully, I connected the charger to a surge protector - I strongly recommend - and follow the procedure. Voila, it starts charging! Thank you naxiangirl, it's a brilliant solution.

    This does work for most batteries, but caution should be used when doing so. Especially with lithium batteries which are prone to spectacular failures. This reminded me that one of my race spec chargers works is good at regenerating over-discharged cells, so, I think I'll use that with a lipo safe, much safer :)

    Great idea. I'd add that you could use the charge lead from the charger instead. It has 4mm banana and male XT60. Easier and safer. Speaking of safer I wouldn't attempt this without both batteries in separate lipo bags and an extinguisher on hand. Better yet in the bags and outside. Thanks for posting.

    thanks, but how badly will my battery be damaged?

  • @KrotowX
    @KrotowX Před 6 lety

    In most cases you can raise your battery voltage. But raised internal resistance caused by irreversible changes in chemistry of this battery already persists and there is no way to get rid from it anymore. Which mean that you will be able to charge this restored battery and use it for small current. But it wouldn't be suitable for flying/driving anymore because in can't support large discharge current anymore. And voltage will drop to low voltage level after 10-20 seconds even on 30% throttle. So in fact this battery is dead. You may use it to power your googles or transmitter... maybe.
