  • Everybody wants to make the world a better place.
One of the main antagonists of Code Geass is Emperor Charles. He tries to create a world without lies, hoping that humans can live without ever getting betrayed. However, Lelouch refuses this idea and chooses to forge his own future. Let's explore the benefits and consequences of Charle's philosophy in pursuit of this utopia.

I think the concept of a world without lies is pretty stupid?? Some may argue that a world without lies would promote trust, honesty, and transparency, leading to better relationships and a more harmonious society. But Lies can serve as a form of protection, diplomacy, or even compassion in certain situations.

Thats the thing, in such world you won't need protection or diplomacy, because everyone understands everyone, thus violence would be eradicated. The real problem is that in that world you'll lose your personal identity and everyone would be the same person.

lying to protect someone from truth woould not be possible in the world Charles is building because person you were trying to hide truth from would know it both the truth and your intention. And as far as i know what diplomacy is, all the best examples of diplomacy that make sense are where you show the second party how your consensus would profit both of you from your perspective, so shared consciousness would actually make every relation perfect from the perspective of a diplomacy because diplomacy fails when other one of the sides either lies or doesnt trurt another one

@@theworldoffun8997diplomacy is competing interests negotiating nonviolently. Oftentimes, both sides are withholding key information and intentions from one another. A world without lies negates such a circumstance though not the necessity of negotiation itself.

@@skepticalzostrianos9875I don’t think so. Regardless whether nobody could lie or not, everyone is still a product of their own collective experience.
Whether nature or nurture someone is going to believe something that others won’t agree with. You don’t need to lie to wage wars.
The gentle world lelouch seeks has always been a goal worth striving for but it’s also a goal that nobody can truly claim unless you force everyone into doing it.
Ironically enough lelouch has those means (technically speaking)

Its essentially the philosophy of Existentialism that Lelouch beliefs and portrays to be the significance in human nature. Existentialism key factors revolve around free will and human freedom to let them choose what action they will make to determine their own future, with free will humans can create their own purpose and happiness in the world. Striping lies from the world is basically striping freedom from mankind itself because through freedom, can humans choose to create set lies that define their own individual lives and reality as well as who they want to be. Reason why Lelouch believes in all this is because of his own experience in life and through a contrary view to existentialism, that is nihilism. It is interesting to note that he didn’t always share the existentialist belief and before he did, he viewed his life as meaningless and thus didn’t feel alive at all as a human. Lelouch in his journey realized all the actions he took in his path was all through his own choice and free will, even the ones he regretted. In all honesty, I have mixed feelings about all three of Charles Schneizel and Lelouch’s methods and beliefs about human nature and life. I kinda agree with all them particularly but mainly it comes down to charles and Lelouch’s and sometimes I actually side more with charles plan and can agree that if Lelouch never existed, Charles goal would 100% be the better one.

During their dialogue with Lelouch, Charles and Marianne mention that it would be great to have the dead essentially come back to life as a part of the collective. Forcing a collective consciousness upon humanity would erase the emotional bonds with their friends and family; all would be one; there are no longer bonds because everyone is the same being. By erasing the negative (lies, conflict, etc.), they are also erasing the positive (compassion, love, etc.). The total erasure of the individual mind is indiscriminate. That comment leads me to believe they were so tunnel-visioned with trying to eliminate lies and conflict that they couldn't see the whole picture of what their plan would accomplish.

I believe the main reason why lelouch rejected charles and his plans is because he was royally pissed off at both of his parents for causing nunnally to be blind and crippled, and abandoning them to japan.
If both lelouch and nunnally were not abandoned and nunally not blinded or crippled, he MIGHT accept charles vision for humanity.

Sadly humans can't never truly understand each other, if they could this world would have been a far better place. This is were The emperor;s idelogy comes in, his method even thought could have come in a success and make the world a better place with no lies. But with this method you don't truly change the world, you just force people act is a spesific matter, Charles with putting all their thoughts into one and Schneize(sry if its wrong) with fear. But like this you won't change humans this way, you just make them act they way you want. If ever they were free again they would go in their old ways. Like lelouch himself said: Life with no change it's not called life, it's called expirience

The unnecessary SAO shade aside (seriously, nobody should still have the energy to be hating on SAO in 2023), this is another good/interesting analysis.
I think who you think is right purely comes down to how much you value individuality and freedom at the expense of perfect peace. As long as we have differences, no matter how small their will always be conflict. But out differences are what make us human. To remove individualsm from humans would make us no longer so, thus what would be the point in trying to create a perfect world for humanity.
So while I do side more with Lelouch, I ultimately would prefer a synthesis between his and Charles ideologies. One where we can come better understand each other, but also still maintain some elements of out individualism so we don't become stagnant.

  • @Kambyday
    @Kambyday Před 6 měsíci +1

I have a problem with what Charles is doing
So if he were to combine all the consciousnesses of the world then that would mean every new event that happens with one individual is experienced by everyone else
Meaning if one person experiences something new then the other 8 billion people on the planet also experience it at the same time
That would be impossible for our brains to process that much information let alone store it
The only way this could work is If parallel processing was introduced to the brain along with the brainpower of every person being combined
But if that were to happen our ability to remember pretty much everything would still be zero and the only way that could work is if some sort of memory storage where memories could be pulled out of when in need but if there is no need then they won't be pulled out
Then that would create an information difference between people
That would then bring forth the existence of lies
    So he's just wasting time

I feel like this is opposing motion, and entropy, and therefore - a discussion about a different Philosophical point.
To place that concept in our world. Creating Collective Consciousness amongst humans dosen't gurantee shit. It can lead to development of new being/beings in the process and reimagine society far beyond our expectations. Meaning that it's not a wish fullfillment.

  • @Milady7021
    @Milady7021 Před 2 měsíci

It suits the character but the lack of understanding is a pretty royal and luxurious reason for a conflict. What about a more primitive lack of resources? And will shared experience make humanity kinder actually? The amount of shared suffering can make people burn out and apathetic and be much more dismissive of each other's pain cause it's so little in the big picture. Or it can make them suicidal as we see with code bearers worn by too much experience. It`s the world that suits Charles with how detached and dismissive he already is and doesn`t value people as individuals deleting them like one would bad tooth. And I don`t think he really thought about everyone's happiness more like wished to be understood himself. I don`t think he could even imagine how much he would stop being himself in case of success and that he wouldn`t be the brain and central of this new organism.

Just because a world has no lies or stops lying, that does not mean people will stop being bad or be good. Plus, what is considered lying or just a lack of information ? and also just because you tell the truth does not mean it is right or morally right. Plus, does change counts as lying, no of course not you just switch from one truth to another. Also, something that is made up or created does not necessarily mean a lie it just so happens you made things a reality.

I remember reading a book called the laws of human nature by Robert greene in it he explains the psychology behide human actions that seem Irrational and goes on to explain all the different Bias that drive our everyday life, a quote that has stuck with me is " all human beings have a mask hiding their darker Imperfect side's " he argues that it is this darker nature that is the cause of all the times in your life you didn't feel like your self, all the times you acted in a way that was Irrational compared your more logical self however the interesting point is that rather then hide or oppress this darker side of you he instead argues that you should look at this as much as apart of you as anything else and that in order to improve yourself you should try and analyse this part of you as the more you understand it the more you will be able to control it. The overhaul point I am getting is that like lelouch I believe that even through our world isn't perfect we should still protect our individuality because it is these things whether they be good or evil that make us who we are. As a side note, Frederick Nietzsche, a famous philosopher, ask a similar question as in your video in his book beyond good and evil he asked why it was we valued the truth rather than a lie, he also went on to question the very idea of truth itself and questioned if what we throught of as the truth was based on nothing more then our own bias and experience's. As a final note, I have only just discovered your channel today, and so far, I have enjoyed your content, and I hope that your channel continues to grow.

@ProtagonistRayen you're welcome. If you are interested, there are some other great books I can recommend in regards to this topic
      In no particular order:
      The 48 laws of power
      The laws of human
      Beyond good and evil
      The prince by Machiavelli
No longer human by Osamu dazai
Crime and punishment by fyodor Dostoevsky
The prince, particularly, is one of my favourite books as it covers the age-old question: Does the ends justify the means. On this topic, Machiavelli posed the question was it better to be loved or feared he determined that to be feared is to be preferred. This is because of the guaranteed safety and progress of a state during the tenure of a feared leader. Machiavelli is remembered for his most cold-blooded aphorisms, such as, “Men must be either flattered or eliminated, because a man will readily avenge a slight grievance, but not one that is truly severe.” But he never advocated to seek power for power’s sake; in fact he condemned any ruler who was needlessly cruel. Machiavelli believed a leader’s job is to do what is best for those who depend on him, and that sometimes this means doing what “needs to be done” rather than what “ought to be done.” He claimed it can actually be selfish for a leader to prioritize his personal virtue or morality if it leads to an outcome that does not benefit the larger group.

@windrose5988 the jp VA actually brought alive lelouch's character . not that he can't do soft voice but lelouch isn't exactly chocolate boy but a born leader and revolutionary . if his voice felt like oda nobunaga then the jp VA actually did a great job . lelouch's zero persona needed that gravity & commanding force .. Lelouch in normal school life uses softer tone but that's not his real persona he suppresses his a lot of his own personality to fit the character of a schoolboy . but he truly cares about his sister & friends . but there are things he couldn't share with them for various reasons . in the resurrection movie lelouch completely leaves the pretence & was mostly honest hence he didn't subdued his voice as he was being his real self.
the VAs portray the character according to the director's vision . they mould themselves as the story demands . Taniguchi Goro particularly wanted lelouch to have deep voice coz lelouch wasn't a ordinary kid but an exiled prince . lelouch has royalty in his dna & in his personality too . he abhors being helpless or weak like the time he was used as political pawn . he never considers himself as a victim or a meek docile person but he never let go of the original goal & as the story progressed he evolved & his goals or motivations evolved from personal desire to betterment of the all the people not just Nunnally.
this VA slander is because of our individual preferences . at first i was acquainted dubs but later i vibed with the subs more .. i can't get comfortable with chinese VAs as i'm not used to the chinese language . i had got acquainted with japanese language from a young age so even though i don't understand japanese fully but it's more familiar than chinese but that doesn't mean the Chinese VAs are bad . i just prefer the japanese one ..
maybe you have a different vision for lelouch that's why u don't like the og lelouch's voice so you're free to to choose the dub you like or you simply don't vibe with lelouch's character & that's okay . It's not necessarily VA , writer or director's fault . maybe it's not according to your preference . you're free have your opinion so as all other fans who like the lelouch's va .
