Foreign films should win Oscars more often. There's plenty of great movies from around the world, and the Academy hardly ever recognizes them. Glad they got it right this time

great screenplay and film and great director i just watched all about my mother for the first time and loved it found it very moving. Ive only seen 3 of his films but i want to see more

On my opinion,the best original screenplay award is the best one. Perhaps because I Want to be a Screen writer,but it's maybe because it's hard to write An original story.

No it didn't. It won best foreign language. Shakespeare in love won best picture and Steven Spielberg won best director.

in case u guys didnt know. each country choose 1 best film from their country to compete for the category hence its for the country not director. the director is only there to accept the award. wikipedia : "It is accepted by the winning film's director, but is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole"

It's criminal that Hable con Ella didn't win the Goya for Best Picture in 2002 and couldn't represent Spain for Best Foreign Film. Much more when you watch the film it lost to (Los Lunes al Sol). Surely it would have won two oscars.

I find it rather offensive that a film like ''My Big Fat Greek Wedding'' was nominated in this category instead of Hayao Miyazaki for ''Spirited Away''. Obviously, not all of these were the 5 best screenplays of the year but Almodovar definitely deserved it.
Why wasn't Alexander Payne nominated that year for About Schmidt? He won the Golden Globe and Writers' Guild of America award that year.

I haven't watched "talk to her" but I think "and your mother too" (y tu mama tambien) has a great screenplay no doubt (both movies are spoken in spanish). no he visto "hable con ella" pero creo que "y tu mama tambien" tiene un gran guion sin duda alguna (ambas peliculas estan habladas en español)
Y tu mama tambien was trash compared to talk to her, had no chance.. Cuaron did much better later on.. and i am proudly mexican, i love Cuaron, but Almodovar here was the absolut winner in my opinion..

It’s not presented romantically? He’s shown to be very disturbed and his obsession is intended to be creepy, but the core of the film is his relationship with Marco.
For me that is, Almodovar has completely lost his touch after this movie. "Bad Education" was promising but fell flat, and "Volver" was mediocre. Of course, those were slightly better than his latest shitty films ("The Skin I Live In", "I'm So Excited")...
