  • Hi Everyone :)
    Welcome back!
I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.
Purchasing items from the links on these pages will help support my IG page of science and wonder.
Buy physicsfun toys on : bit.ly/2MOjFET (Official websit 🇺🇸)

    This video contains :
Swirl Around Top: the magnetic tipped top stays on the perimeter of the steel plate template- but since the top has more mass than the triangular plate, the triangle moves in an interesting way. This kinetic art toy takes advantage of Newton's 3rd law and rotational kinetic energy.
👉🏻 The PhoTOP: phosphorescent glow illuminates the intricate path of a 405nm laser pointer beam on a balanced spinning disk.
👉🏻 Tiny Leaf Blower Toy: this little battery operated blower is great for experimenting with the Coandă effect.
👉🏻 Centripetal Spheres: a favorite DIY physics toy- two metal spheres connected by a rubber band orbit each other as energy oscillates between elastic potential energy and rotation kinetic energy. Just wind up the rubber band and let go.
👉🏻 Reflective Diffraction Kinetic Art: sheet metal disk spins with a pattern of diffraction gratings.
👉🏻 Magnetic Dandelion: through ferromagnetic interaction these iron rich nails temporarily become dipole magnets in the presence of an intense magnetic field from a neodymium super magnet.
👉🏻 Magswitch: switchable permanent magnet- a twist of a knob turns on a magnetic field strong enough to lift this 5.2 kilogram (11 pound) chunk of railroad rail.
👉🏻 Thermochromic Pencils: some amazing pencils I found in the exploratorium gift shop last week that exhibit reversible color change.
👉🏻 Ramp Walker Toy: dragged to the edge but never over. Physics puzzle- why does the toy stop at the edge?
👉🏻 Magnetic Fidget Physics: iron rich ball bearings temporarily become dipole magnets and repel each other- and when manipulated they keep their distance.
👉🏻 Magnetic Seal & Ball: as the seal nears, the ball spins and moves away.
👉🏻 Precision Machined Haptic Fidget: four identical stainless steel components precision manufactured to 15µm tolerances via wire EDM (electrical discharge machined) and embedded with magnets to produce a stepped locking mechanism for a haptic sensory experience.
👉🏻 Maxwell’s Dynamical Top: one of my favorite demonstrations of the strange properties of rotating bodies.

The laser light propagates by the phenomenon of "Total internal reflection"
At 03:51 - When the animal is at the opposite end of the table, the string have enough force in the horizontal direction to pull the animal. But when the animal reach to the edge, the string pulls vertically downwards, hence no horizontal component of force acts on it. That's why the animal stops.

@@rajulvalsan5020 The angle between blue & orange arrows stay 90°. At last, the card itself was flipped. Before flipping the blue was pointing at 45°. On flipping, blue became 135° (behind). Orange is now towards 225°. So, angle between them is 90°.

Reflection. The light waves travel by bouncing back and forth from one side of the fiber to the other - the surface between fiber and air acts like a pretty good mirror.

i got one of those magnetic cubes that unfolds into 2 or 3 million different geometric shape &.......
it stresses me out because once it's unfolded it takes ages to work out how to get it back into a cube again.
so it just sits there on the table, quietly mocking me with it's geometric smugness

3:51 This one is actually pretty fun! Gravity, thanks to the weight dangling off the end of the string, produces tension which pulls the elephant forward. A rocking motion, induced by the hand, releases one pair of legs before swinging back to engage the other set. Because the string is fixed to the elephant and not to a wind-up mechanism it stops at the edge because the tension itself is not enough to lever the elephant up and off the edge due to its direction of pull, namely straight down.
