- Hey gang, in part two of our EPIC COMBI series I cover how to split your Kross between two different boards at once for the song Africa by Toto. I also cover designating MIDI channels and modifying the ranges of our individual patches so that they are appropriate for our live performance.
Before you engage your mega-splits, make sure to catch up by watching the first video in the series - Planning Patches and MIDI Hardware: • Korg Kross Tutorial | ...
Happy synthesizing!

You made me see the light with my Kross 2 splitting. Thanks!!
Excellent news. I'm so glad it helped!
You are super great! Thanks.
Thank you.
You are great! Thank you 😊❤️❤️
Thanks for the nice comment!
Thanks man. I could easily replicate this method on Korg Kross version 1 👍👍👍
do it!
Excelent!!! the only video in youtube that each well. You should make more videos like these. Excellent!
thank you.
Over 2 years ago when I made this we were still locked down and I had a ton of free time to spare. Not so much anymore. I have to focus on my and music and music teaching careers. Someday I hope to make more YT content.
Excelente amigo
Thanks man
You are welcome!
eric, can you run a tutorial how to layer piano, pad and lastly the string that can be assign in mod wheel. thanks
I'll definitely consider it. I've been working on the last video of this four part Combi series. Once it's complete I can think about doing another Kross video. Free time is less easy to come by these days. I do private sessions via Zoom if ever interested. Thanks for the support Edgar.
Every YES that hath been YESed
Bryan, your support is always appreciated and never goes unnoticed.
If you get a midi controller with sliders can you set the sliders to control the volume of the timbres in the combi?
I imagine it's possible.
@@EricJungeMusic Thank you so much man. Learned so much from you!!!
Hey! How would you allot multiple splits on the kross instead of having two keyboards? Specially when a song requires alot of tones and each tone requires one half of d board.
In this video series I split three different patches on the Kross (Flute, Vibes, Gong). You can add more layers/splits as needed (up to 16) with the one board.
@@EricJungeMusic Hey sorry but that's not what I meant. Let me rephrase. I need 4 tones in total on my kross for a particular song. Each tone needs half of the keyboard. Which means only two tones can fit on the board of 61 keys. I need another layer of two tones (not getting mixed with d previous ones)
I need to add more splits to a combi and switching between them without interruptions (without a pedal)
@@aggiekeys I don't think that should be too tough. Just assign the sounds you'd like to layer to MIDI channel 1 and give them identical split zones under the zone/delay section. The 3rd video of this series goes more into depth on creating layers so you may get a tip from watching that. I also can do private sessions via Zoom if ever interested. Hope that helps!
@@EricJungeMusic Thank u so much for your help!
I have an 88 Kross 1 and it’s my bottom keyboard.. I’m getting confused as to how to set up the midi channels and sounds.. I want my gong, vibes and flutes to be on the top keyboard (Korg PS60) and the synth brass and piano on the kross (bottom keyboard). I tried to reverse the midi channels but none of the splits are working. Help!
Assign the 3 sounds you want on top board to their own MIDI channel. Then set the PS60 to recognize that channel. Make sure you have a proper MIDI cable (5 pin) and plug it to the "in" of the Kross and the "out" to the PS60. Hope that helps.
I tried to use split sound on my Kross :
From Bass Category - (Talking to me Baby) on C-1 until C2
From Piano Category - (Kross SE piano) on D2 Until G9.
i wrote the setting, and put on Combi mode. But when i played, the sound of Talking to me Baby isn't good like i used on Prog mode (single sound)
Can u help me sir ? Thanks :)
yes, I think the problem is that you need to copy the Master and Insert EFX from the program to Combi Mode.
Hey Eric. Love your videos. I have Korg Kross Workstation 1 and I am trying to build a patch that has synth pad in the bottom keys and e.piano in the top. But I can't enough synth pad volume in the bottom without having it in the top keys as well. I have synth pad in 1G- 1G seems to control upper volume for all keys. I can't seem to split keys for 1G without losing tones for all excluded keys on all channels. I tried turning that down and adding same synth pad to 10 additional channels, then spilitting keys for all none 1G timbres, but I still can't get enough volume in the lower synth keys. any ideas?
TBH I'm kind of lost by your explanation. Whenever I have volume issues inside of splits (one sound is too quiet) I usually add compression to that particular timbre. It gives it a volume boost immediately plus you can control the amount inside of the effect parameters. Good luck!
@@EricJungeMusic sorry, my vocab in this domain is limited! Will try compression. Seem like channel 1G overrides some functions. I guess the G is for General. Finding impossible to split timbres without having the 1G timbre show up on all keys. For instance I would like to use a bell-like synth pad in the intro to this song I am working on. Like to put it in the highest octave on my physical keyboard then raise the octave with theSW2 switch, but I can’t isolate that sound (1G is always there). If I turn the volume down on 1G, the volume goes down on my bell-synths. If I mute 1G, everything mutes.
@@gayatrishelton-ostadi6663 I guess I'm not sure what you mean by 1G
@@EricJungeMusic Midi channel 1 reads 1G
@@gayatrishelton-ostadi6663 hmm OK. I think I see what the problem might be. It would take too long to explain it over CZcams comments feel free to contact me at my posted e-mail to set up a private coaching session. Else you can feel free to contact KORG customer support. Thank you.
