Sm waited for someone like Wendy for a long time before debuting red velvet. Once they found her, she was immediately put in the debut team. Its why she only had 1 and a half year of training cause they know she was already debut ready. Now stop saying that red velvet members are five main vocalists cause that is just not true. SM hit the jackpot with Wendy.

SM hit the jackpot with Wendy AND Seulgi. Jesus these girls are fucking beasts. Wendy is just so gifted in vocals to the point SM just had to put her to the debut team and Seulgi who learnt dance from scratch due to her throat issues and rose to the most insane dancers out there rn. You know what, let’s just say that SM is so lucky to have Red Velvet. Their harmonies just sound so good together, like they were destined to be together

A lot of people seem to think that Wendy hasn't improved? She has tho, you can hear it in her osts like "Two words" and their bside "In my dreams". The thing with Wendy is, she was already so good at debut so people think she hasn't changed. But in reality she did especially with her head voice and lower voice

@Legend “a good singer knows their limit” okay, so based on that logic singers like Tiffany (from SNSD) who developed it as well and had to get surgery is a bad singer, right? or let’s go beyond that and say mariah carey, elton john, adele, who all have had issues with their vocal cords, are bad singers then? they should’ve “known their limit” right? i believe that comment her vocal trainer made was more to say that she has worked very hard and even ended up damaging her vocal cord because of it not that she’s a bad singer who should’ve known her limit.

If you're claiming she's a bad singer then what exactly is a good singer to you? also, I'm not sure who this "everyone" is but i have not seen anyone say that tiffany was a bad singer. there are those who think so but not this generalised "everyone" you're talking about. she was a lead vocalist for a reason and is now a soloist. "those western singers" regardless of the bad habits you're talking about are regarded as top singers. wendy has improved and is a good singer, saying she's the best is subjective. but to deny that she's a good singer simply because of what happened pre-debut makes no sense. comparing her pre debut vocals to where she is now, there is a very obvious difference because she *improved.*

I actually find these two similar to the Solar vs Wheein comparison. Taeyeon has a more chesty mix, with impressive consistency on resonance in her mid-belts. She’s just more balanced C#5-up than Solar, and more proficient below G#3. Wendy’s lighter mix allows her more ease above D5, kinda like Wheein!
I like to think of these two as Solar and Wheein……..but on steroids 🙉🙉🙉

I really enjoy more of Wendy's voice in her upper range, low register and especially love her climatic high notes with powerful vibratos, I connect more to her because of her expressions when she's singing, she really portrays the meaning of the song, she gives a big smile if its needed for the concept, and she can also make you cry. That being said I also appreciate Taeyeon a lot, because her high notes are really open and it creates a massive sound, when she belts her resonance creates an illusion like she has a ton of reverb in her voice (naturally), it's almost like majestic or heavenly. In conclusion, Best vocalists of 2nd and 3rd gen are these queens.👑
idk if it makes sense but ty to me is like snow: clean/clear&sharper while wendy is sunshine: warm&comforting.
snow is more variable, can be strong like snowstorm, impressive, artistic. whereas sunshine is full of emotions, instead of sharp it's round delightful, beautiful

Just listen to wendy’s most recent head voice-blew the top with ‘in my dreams’… that is special… doing it while sitting down. That surely speaks voluminous of her skill… both she & taeyeon are just amazing. Definitely waiting for the possibility of them collaborating- what a bomb that will be👍🏻💞

Its like, we have heard Taeyeon's voice more so we may lean more to Taeyeon.
But if we hear Wendy's voice more we may lean more to Wendy.
Our ears and brain have a feeling of that familiar sound.

I prefer singers with great resonance hence, I'm biased towards Taeyeon also, I think she's a better story teller but Wendy is amazing too, she does a lot of work and mostly everything in RV's tracks, I have high appreciation for her after watching their recording sessions

Wendy’s technique with upper belts and falsettos is sooo clean and beautiful.
The only thing we cannot deny is that they're both from SM and we all wonder what's with SM's water producing these two beautiful vocalists. I love both of them, they're both great!!!
Taeyeon trained with The One before signing with SM and Wendy was a pretty decent singer before being a trainee too

SM vocal training is actually SO OVERRATED .....the vast majority of sm main vocalist where casted because of their already great vocals ... (if anything sm is the superior agengy in terms of casting vocalists), there is actually very few good vocalists the sm brought up from zero, the ones that come to my mind are jessica and seohyun from snsd, jaehyun from nct, suho from exo and seulgi from red velvet. People like taeyeon, onew, kyuhyun, d.o, baekhyun, chen, wendy, taeil, doyoung, xiaojun, all joined sm when they were already good.
@@jesusrivera0509 This isn’t actually true. Their vocal coach Jang Jinyoung actually knew what he was talking about and brought the best out of them and made the main vocalists improvement massively. Other companies value sounding unique over singing well.

I love them both so much. That being said Taeyeon just has such a special tone. Her voice is so bright and warm and special. Wendy is so amazing of course and has a pretty tone of course but there are times where I prefer Taeyeon because of her tone but I love them both so much
Taeyeon's live performances of Lost in Love & Missing You Like Crazy will always be some of my favorites from her. Her delivery is unmatched and It's why she's always been my favorite vocalist in Kpop. I wasn't too familiar with Wendy before this video but I think she's a good vocalist with a lot of potential. SM really knows how to pick and train their main vocalists

Omg i never realized how amazing Wendy’s lows sound, I could listen to them all day long ! I totally agree with you on the belting, it makes sense of why I feel more attracted to taeyeon’s style. As vocalists, i’d say Wendy is more balanced on her range as she has amazing skills in her lows and head voice, seems almost like she works a lot on every note ! Taeyeon is more focused on some technical points like her belting and her agility. I feel like she is a bit less balanced but more impressive on these points.
I personally enjoy Taeyeon’s vocals more cuz the only things I’ve heard of her were magical, she just has a gift to pass on emotions. Wendy has it a bit less I feel, but maybe it’s only because she doesn’t have that opportunity, being in a group, as you said. Surprising video but so interesting as always, I feel I improve on my hearing of technical points and skills every time.
Would love a focus on some Kpop boy group vocalists, since they seem to carry the entire male vocals of the world music industry haha

King Taeyeon! I still can't get over her cover for When we were young by Adelle. That was the moment she shut down haters that she can't sing high notes as much as others. She is so versatile, Ballad, rock, or any type of song. Her voice is unique and is so captivating.

- Lower register: Taeyeon support down to G3/G#3, Wendy support down to F#3/G3.
- Mixed voice, belting: Taeyeon support to C#5/D5 , Wendy support to C#5/D5. Taeyeon strongly resonance to C#5 and sometimes D5. Wendy rarely show resonant belts.
- Agility: both has good agility, Taeyeon a bit more skilled.
- Headvoice: Taeyeon support to F5/F#5, Wendy support to G#5/A5. Taeyeon does has resonance to F5 (even F#5 sometimes), Wendy has resonance.
=> Taeyeon supported range: G#3-C#5/D5-F5/F#5. Good lower register, good belting, good headvoice, good agility, very resonant belt.
Wendy supported range: F#3/G3-C#5/D5-G#5/A5. Good lower register, good belt, good agility, good headvoice, rare resonance.
They both amazing and skillful vocalist.
P/s: sometimes they can support some notes that above supported range (Wendy can support C6 once before debut or some Eb5s, Taeyeon support some Eb5s) but they are lucky notes or just a few times, they can not count in the supported range because lack of consistency. This happen with many many vocalist.
Pps: after checking, Wendy support haedvoice to A5/Bb5 but i thing her Bb5 not good, not as solid as belowA5 and i still put her supported range at F#3/G3-C#5/D5-G#5/A5 but it's not change anything, she still a good vocalist and a semitone didn't actually very important at her case.

I loooovee Taeyeon's mid-belts. She's kind of like Solar but with better technique (chesty, heroic-like quality to belts).
I do feel like Wendy has a potential to be the better technical singer. As early as her C5's she starts placing them very forward (kind of more heady), that's why it gives it more ease for her but less vocal "quality." She might last better than Taeyeon in terms of longevity because of her technique.
Oh yeah, Taeyeon really possesses that heroic, dramatic, appealing quality to her belts!
With Wendy, it's sometimes almost like she doesn't want to sound like that, she has her more powerful moments sure, but she usually opts for that more effortless and light delivery.

People say that since her debut Wendy has the potential, but in fact she regressed since Hapiness era and that only gor worse since the accident while Taeyeon improves all her low, mid and head voice.
You can also hear in Step Back, while they both do hit F5, Wendy's F5 is more shrill than Taeyeon's even thought they both don't support F5. the reason for that is Taeyeon has a better placement

She also sings F5 in Queendom at "Rainbow" and it's powerful, not shrill at all, same with her F5s in the chorus of Wildside, it's full and round, and not shrill. So, she definitely knows what she's doing and how she wants her voice to sound depending on the song she sings

The "bad wendy vocal agility" moment is literally how the original song is... and besides she was just practicing.
I personally prefer Taeyeon’s voice. She has this ability to make me feel the song she’s singing despite not understanding its lyrics. I remember watching her sing “I love you”. The emotion she had while singing made me tear up as well. It’s like… she’s not just singing when she’s singing.. it’s like she’s telling the story of the song as well and that’s what I love about her.
I think Wendy’s range is better though. She can reach high notes flawlessly, often appearing effortless and that’s something that I really admire about her too. Sm really struck gold with these two vocalists.
I prefer Wendy because I love RnB voices, I prefer Taeyeon as a performer, she’s an underrated dancer.

Wendy is obviously an amazing singer, and technically has a wider range than Taeyeon.
But there is something about Taeyeon's vocals that reduce me to tears on a regular basis.
There is a depth and soul to her vocals that only comes from her years of experience.
Wendy will definitely be there eventually as well.
I think it's because of how Taeyeon does her belting. Like many people said, there's a lot of resonance in them and they sound rounder, giving the listeners the feeling of how their own chests are being pulled by her singing. That feeling can be associated with heartbreak (since a lot of Taeyeon's songs are about break ups), and why Taeyeon is said to have a singing abilities of a woman who went through 7 divorces.
Wendy, however, only has few solo songs where her abilities as a singer truly shine, a lot of them are inspiring themes. Her belting feels a lot cleaner, less strained, and just overall magnificent and daunting at the same time. Instead of feeling that pull in your chest, a lot of times her singing feels like you've been punched in the chest, making your soul leave your body.
SM's standard for main vocalist is high but Im more amazed how they have consistently find and polish these gems
Taeyeon is my favourite female vocalist when i entered kpop wave since 2011. only listen her singing, you can feel the emotion of song, and i only love her even so many singers great in kpop, but after SM released an ost from their SM rookies in march 2014, once again, i fell in love with only listen someone's voice, that's Wendy. till know, if ppl ask me about best vocalist, i only said that wendy and taeyeon. because, for me this two has make me goosebumb so many time just only listened their voice. I know, there are so many singer who better than them, but this two girls know how to describe and bring a song to touch listener's heart.
Great Video! This made me appreciate Taeyeon and Wendy's vocals even more. I personally lean towards WENDY's style because of her love for RnB but I have mad respect for Taeyeon's experience in the industry. SM is so lucky to have these QUEENS!

actually both Taeyeon and Wendy have shown to support down to a F#3 (nearly all of Taeyeon’s F#3’s in her INVU album were all well supported)
at best they have both supported F3 (Taeyeon only once or twice) but the difference is consistency Wendy is more consistent on F#3/G3 than Taeyeon who is more consistent with G3/G#3 but maybe we’ll see her improve that consistency with new music and live performances soon

They are tied, I suppose. Taeyeon has better consistency and resonance in her mixed, and Wendy is very inconsistent in terms of resonance in her mixed. Taeyeon had done resonant D5, but Wendy has never done it yet. However, Wendy has a better lower register since she consistently supports down to F#3 and Wendy definitely is better in the upper register; she is the best in SM after Luna from f(x), in terms of head voice.

they’re both teaching voice at SM for good reason! idk how taeyeon sings like she’s lived a hundred lifetimes but im always ready for her to devastate me, and her technique often sounds so effortless. love the genres she explores, my voice and purpose are in my top albums of all time. for wendy, i think weve seen only part of what she’s capable of doing. her solo album was nice but i’d rly like to see her stretch beyond ballads and RV’s style bc her covers always slap. with time she should have more opportunities to explore the way taeyeon has been able to. so much potential for both as they continue growing as artists & vocalists

@@aintnootherfan Nope. Taeyeon said she never took part in SM's training system, and Wendy didn't even meet aespa til they guested on her radio show. The only SM girls who coached their younger peers were CSJH The Grace (for SNSD).

YAASS!! My 2 favourite vocalists🤩 they’re both such queens and properly deserve their titles. Makes sense why they’re both ranked as Proficient Vocalists, they have such balance, they have different strengths and weaknesses.

Imo Wendy is a bit better technically, overall. However, Taeyeon's tonal quality is everything. Those midbelts are eargasmic. It's clear that Taeyeon is the blueprint for SM vocalists.
Now this is a competition! Wendy an Taeyeon are my #1 and #2 fav female voices in kpop! You can't go wrong choosing either of them as #1.

I didn't really expect to like Taeyeon's voice. I've been hearing about her for YEARS, but once I started really getting into her music, I can't stop listening! She just has some magic in her voice. Plus she has one of those gifts where you can listen to her all day. As they say, she has the voice of healing.
Personal biases aside, I definitely think she still has a lot of area to work on esp lightening her mixing in her upper belts but I do think she's also smart to stay in her vocal comfort zone, which to be fair is quite big, which is why she also seem to appear so perfect vocally. Haha
It's such a shame that she hasn't been to a lot of Korean singing shows like I am Legend or even King of Masked Singer, if I'm correct.
Wendy definitely has a lot of potential. I think she might be slightly better and on her way to being one of Korea's best vocalist especially if she continues improving.
Taeyeon is the one that keep on improving, whereas Wendy is still same as she was in 2014.

@@zenappa3738 Yep. Wendy despite supposedly not "improving" has a really good base level of skill. She really is up there with the best vocalists in kpop rn beating out her contemporaries.
We obviously want both of them to achieve their highest potential and be best that they can be so that we can hear them sing even more as we all grow older. I would like nothing more than that. :)

Most of the videos of Wendy were from her ig lives. FOR ME, I think that Wendy has the better agility, you could've used other videos of her properly showcasing her agility and not just from ig lives where she's just casually singing (you should watch Wendy's Why Can't You Love Me live band and her intro in All I Want For Christmas collab stage, also Wendy's part was live bcoz she talked first before she started singing, I don't know about the rest)
I knew Taeyeon first way back 2010, but when Wendy debuted, her voice really resonates more with me, she's just so versatile. Of course Taeyeon is never less than Wendy, her mid-belts are so soo good, almost all of her songs are in my playlist, tho I still love Wendy's voice more, coz it just resonates with me more
You really can't say who's the better singer between them coz both of them has strengths and weaknesses and both are great vocalists.
In the end, it just depends on whose voice people prefer to listen to.

Lmao. Taeyeon is clearly the one with better agility. I remember watching videos of singers covering Taeyeon’s part in Amber’s Shake That Brass and Wendy really messed up hers trying to do Taeyeon’s run.
There is something special in Taeyeon's tone. I wouldn't listen to half of her songs if they were sung by another singer. What a magic!

the reason why I can't compare the two is just bcoz SM doesn't give Wendy more chance to sing on bigger stage, actual shows or events, noticed how all of her compilation singing videos only came from IG live, without any help of better background music or sound system, she was only boxed as RV main vocalist, if she gets Taeyeon treatment when it comes to releasing songs, having solo concert and guesting on actual music related shows, then let's have this discussion again

It's clearly just because Taeyeon made her own way to be a top idol in Korea. SM didn't support her to be on the top at all, but she only had a chance to release some ost songs and those ost songs made mega hits in Korea so that's how she became top artist individually, apart from her group being the top. But even having been on the top for 7yrs, Taeyeon never had a chance to release a solo album until 2015, and Wendy took 6yrs and half to release her solo album. So technically Wendy even got better treatment than Taeyeon
But Taeyeon is the only female idol artist who can be a top charter and selling all the tickets in a big concert arena. She deserves way bigger stage, but SM just doesn't give her fair treatment
@@lalexxxTaeyeon was never given such same chance either. SM is very famous for mistreating female idols, and the reason Taeyeon gets more chance is because of her presence and her group's presence were incredibly bigger than any other female groups ever here in Korea

@Legend taeyeon already had 7 years of experience being a soloist under her belt. Yet you still can see the improvement between I and INVU album. And in that sense, wendy IS still a rookie in terms of solo works. Everybody can still improve if they’re working hard on it.
@Legend same goes with wendy releasing like water and when this rain stops for her debut which is not an easy song to master. We dont make excuses here because BOTH singers are exceptionally talented. Like i was said earlier, everybody can still improving and there’s no need to downplay anyone bcs even the most talented person can still have some room to grow☺️
@@HelloRaV its not about the technique. To be honest , Wendy is a great vocalist with strong technique but that is not everything . Conversely, Taeyeon's conspicuous abilities are her regulation and perfect combination of her technique, plus the variety of emotion transferring . All of them made her stand out and bring her to the queen position , and of course , Taeyeon was already well-known in her early day with those special techniques
@Legend you obviously have something against Wendy, no one is belittling Taeyeon at all, they are already at the same level in terms of skill. But when they say that Taeyeon has years of experience, they are referring to her confidence and her craft, she has found her sound and she knows what works for her, she’s very in tune with her self, calm and collected. But With Wendy, though she has the same ability level, that’s why she can sing songs like When This Rain Stops and Like Water(any of the songs on her album), she does not possess the same level of confidence that Taeyeon does, she still gets very nervous and doubtful. And it could be because of her setback due to her accident, that left her unable to perform for a year. So yes she’s still finding her self, and definitely still has room to grow as a singer, and I’m not referring to techniques

I did not insult her once in any comment, saying she debuted in SNSD as an AA vocalist is not an insult but just an objective fact, it is obvious that she had big improvements to when she debuted as a soloist. But you are the one putting down Wendy with insults in order to lift Taeyeon up and that’s just sad. You belittling Wendy’s debut album is also toxic behaviour. Yep shes def a gem . From the korean gen public, people would still listen to taeyeon as her voice is unique and could create a lot of mix whereas Wendys voice has a beltier tone and very typi al. Some fans find idols who belts a lot as "noisy".

The reason why Taeyeon is still better than Wendy is because of Resonance. Wendy is having a hard time producing resonance when she sings but Wendy has better support.

Both on the same level when it comes to vocal technique however Taeyeon edges slightly because not only is she more consistent on the D5s but also does fairly well on and supports majority of the time on bE5s. Also the mixing technique she's better because of forward projection & openness with consistent resonance in the A4-D5 range, wendy has not so good placement at times which causes her to sound closed off so the resonance is compromised. For lows both very well developed down to G3 but wendy has slight edge down to F#3, lastly head voice it's Wendy that's better with support up to bB5!
I don't think her resonance is consistent up to D5 more like C#5 D5 can be pushed and tense

I think the reason why Wendy is not as popular is her singing style, she sing more like western like the Mariah and Whitney. As for Taeyeon her singing style is Korean and more pleasing for them. Wendy would be great for western kinda like Ailee

I've been a fan of Taeyeon for so many years now. Her voice is my most favorite among Korean singers. There's just something about her voice that makes me want to listen to her more. The fact that her voice is so much better live just makes me love her even more.

great video! don't love your choices for taeyeon's belts, particularly d5 and eb5, and a little upset you didn't at least add others there to better represent her there. really appreciate you giving taeyeon her flowers for her agility, though which gets overlooked despite all the work she's put in over the past few years.

One thing to note is that a lot of Wendy's clips are mostly from her spontaneous lives, where she just hangs out and sings for the fun of it. A lot of these clips are not recent and I can say she has greatly improved! You can notice the change actually when you compare her old videos to her videos now when she came back from recovery.. This can be evident if we watch her feel my rhythm recording behind video, and her ig lives in her like water era. Also she sings sometimes in her dj gig in youngstreet radio! I hope SM gives her more opportunities to showcase her improved vocals, would love to hear a rnb song from her!

Loved this video and I love them both. I have never really been big on Taeyeon but once I got into her discography and live performances it was done. She literally made me tear up so for that alone she is great. That aside she is extremely versatile and has covered so many genres. I would love to see Wendy get some more opportunities to explore other areas. Wendy has a bigger a range and she has so much ease in her higher register. Her lower register is good as well. I lobe Taeyeon's mid belts and I also like her approach to belting. It's so piercing and resonant wheww gives me chills. I think her head voice is beautiful and she developed it even more now which is great. Her tone is gorgeous as well. I like to think of her vocals as pretty but powerful when it needs to be. Overall they are amazing. U can see Wendy continuing to blossom and I love that for her. Of course my heart will always be with king Taeyeon. She has a very special quality that sets her apart. Really great video!

I do love both vocalist, but Wendy has that certain quality that makes a singer stand out. She has a westernized vocal agility, rhythm and technique. Both vocalist can harmonize and sing beautifully. Though I prefer Wendy because she invokes feeling and emotion and it resonates when she sings. Wendy would have a career in the states because she can sing with that soul of an R and b singer. In terms no hate to Tayeon but Wendy has more of a vocal ability and vocal color to be a main vocalist.
