National Anthem of the Netherlands: Het Wilhelmus

ENGLISH: "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe", usually known just as the "Wilhelmus" (Dutch: Het Wilhelmus), is the national anthem of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It dates back to at least 1572, making it the national anthem with the oldest music. Although the "Wilhelmus" was not recognized as the official national anthem until 1932, it has always been popular with parts of the Dutch population and resurfaced on several occasions in the course of Dutch history before gaining its present status. It was also the anthem of the Netherlands Antilles from 1954 to 1964.
NEDERLANDS: "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe", meestal gewoon bekend als het "Wilhelmus", is het volkslied van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden. Het dateert ten minste uit 1572, waardoor het het volkslied is met de oudste muziek. Hoewel het "Wilhelmus" pas in 1932 als officieel volkslied werd erkend, is het altijd populair geweest bij delen van de Nederlandse bevolking en dook het in de loop van de Nederlandse geschiedenis verschillende keren op voordat het zijn huidige status kreeg. Het was ook het volkslied van de Nederlandse Antillen van 1954 tot 1964.
ESPAÑOL: El "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe", conocido simplemente como "Wilhelmus" (en neerlandés: Het Wilhelmus), es el himno nacional del Reino de los Países Bajos. Su origen se remonta al menos a 1572, lo que lo convierte en el himno nacional con la música más antigua. Aunque el "Wilhelmus" no fue reconocido como himno nacional oficial hasta 1932, siempre ha sido popular entre sectores de la población holandesa y resurgió en varias ocasiones a lo largo de la historia holandesa antes de obtener su estatus actual. También fue el himno de las Antillas Neerlandesas entre 1954 y 1964.

The tune for the Dutch national anthem is one of my favorites: its hymnlike quality is reminiscent of the Lutheran chorales (though I know the Dutch are mostly Calvinist), which makes sense given its sixteenth-century origins. I'd like to suggest the Finnish and Swedish anthems for future coverage. Both have lovely and inspiring melodies, especially the Finnish, which is so simple yet hauntingly beautiful.

I love Dutch anthem. Melody is beautiful. Music and lyrics are full of good emotions and hope. Words are deep, patriotic, God-praising, extoling freedom over tyrrany and loyality to homeland at the same time. Greetings from Poland.

Hello my Polish friend!
Thank you for the kind words and I absolutely agree with you! The Wilhelmus has to be one of the most beautiful and enticing national anthems in the entire world 😎
But as a Dutchman I absolutely do want to say the following:
If it were not for the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade my beloved country might have never been liberated at all. We owe Major General Sosabowski and his brave Polish soldiers the utmost respect and eternal gratitude for their efforts!

@ Helmann9265 With a little history knowledge you would find the lyrics not funny, rather tragic. Wilhelm is torn between the loyalty to the King of Spain and the fact that this king is controlling the land that should be Wilhelm's.....
