The purpose of the shift down, car switches to auto is when you're going downhill. You can shift down to give more resistance on the downhill to maintain speed without braking, and as soon as the engine detects the hill is done, it will shift mack to auto.

@@billysturgeon8616 both are available here in Chile and I have had the privilege of sampling them and some of their rivals. The T90 is quite a bit more powerful and has plenty of features but overall it just feels like a response to the Cannon/Poer with a heavily upgraded and modified T60. The GWM product was developed from the ground up to the tune of billions of dollars, on a new platform with highly revised powertrains using renowned suppliers like ZF, Cooper, Bosch, Intel and the like and if things go the way GWM expects, it will be running off production lines in many countries to compete in many markets not unlike the Hilux. There are BEV, petrol and hybrid variants in the pipeline too. So it's an extremely ambitious product that will become its own range at some point, not just an admittedly very competitive rehash and it shows (at first glance even, as it's huge).

I was about to purchase a cannon x here in Australia. At the end, I got a ranger wildtrack x. It's just one thing that the cannon annoyed me which was the turbo lag. I personally think an idrive throttle would be a must to fix that thing hopefully. Firmware upgrade doesn't fix that - maybe improve it a little bit. Other than that, I'd recommend cannon over hilux, navara, ldv, triton (I've done test drive on all of these). Haven't tried BT50 and Dmax but thought they'd probably very similar to navara or hilux.

4 things Paul. Are you aware that the 7 year unlimited and 5 year roadside assist is flawed. If a breakdown occurs , towing is limited to 50km, NOT to the nearest GWM service centre. It is also not 5 years unlimited km , it is 5 yrs or 100,000 km. Im at 30000km after 6mths so roughly 18mths roadside assist. If the car needs any sort of towing and the engine cant be started, a tilt tray is required. Nearest dealer could be 1 thousand km away, hardly the reason I bought this vehicle. I am setting up a case with fair trading as all of the dealers ,sold these vehicles under false pretences. Anyone who has one , ask your dealer for clarification. They will refer you onto GWM roadside assist who will then spill the beans on this fraud.

    • @loudas

None of that applies to me, as I'm not from Aussie :D
New Zealanders (where I am from) are protected by our consumer guarantees act.
I have an enforceable contract with my dealer.
      Roadside assist info here:
      www.gwmhaval.co.nz/roadside-assistance
And warranty info (very brief quote)
The GWM New Vehicle Warranty applies to all new GWM and HAVAL vehicles first sold in New Zealand through authorised dealers. All GWM and HAVAL vehicles are backed by a 5 year / 150,000 km warranty.

That roadside assist is the same as ours , nowhere in the terms of service is there a mention of either 100,000km or 150,000km limits. It was when calling roadside assist that I found out. Doesn't need to . .it starts rusting about 3 years after you've replaced the gearbox for the second time in your Ranger :P HAHAHAHA

I was looking at buying one of these Ute's and found some interesting articles, here is some of what I have come across that they will also not tell you:-
1- the turning circle is 13mtrs (crap)
2-the breaking performance is poor compared to similar utes.
3- the safety rating - unestablished yet by ancap, however with There last " death trap" rating ,do a search on you tube,I would be concerned.
4- paint work " 1 layer and holographic reflections - a reflection on poor quality.
5- requiring software upgrades from new - several upgrades.
    6-crank position sensor recalls.
7- low hanging fuel filter and piping, not properly established/ fitted at factory.
8- laging performance from pull away ,in my view a poor drive and towing performance.
    #### no doubt more issues to follow##### Given time they may be worth a 2nd look ,but as a 1st generation vehicle ,not a good choice in my opinion.

      Hi Sean,
Here's what I have found (being an owner .. not just research)
      1. Correct .. it has a huge turning circle.
      2. I've not noticed any difference to my friends triton, or another friends ranger.
      3. The safety rating is 5 star in NZ ( rightcar.govt.nz/detail?q=g52306 )
      4. My previous Greatwall v240, I had to make a warranty claim about the paint in year 3. Time will tell with the Cannon
      5. Correct .. you need software upgrades and ecu upgrades. Greatwall are open about this, it is no secret.
      6. No recalls on the Cannon (at least not in NZ), maybe you are referring to a Steed? (there has been a metric f@%K tonne of recalls on rangers)
      7. No issue from me, or any other NZ'ers that are part of the owners group.
      8. I can beat a 2.0TD ranger, and 2.4TD triton in a standing 0-60 .. so ... this is not true. Also, towing is on par with what is written on the tin ( link2.nz/GWhlL )
What you failed to list is the crazy amount of haters, that will go out of there way to dis the Greatwall products. I have no idea why .. it's mental.

@@loudas, regarding comparing the Gwm to a triton, absolutely incomparably,I know because I have owned a triton for 2 years towing a 2.5 tone boat. Look at the last Auzi ute drag test- the gwm came last" in black and white". Don't believe any article from gwm on Towing, simply put the Gwm is way down on performance.
Regarding the 5 star rating in Nz ,this is not based on actual crash testing, this is still to be done ,do some research ,the 2021 test was cancelled due to covid ,the report you refer to is only feature based accounting. " not scientific at all ,to quote from your report - "Ratings are estimated from data on real crashes reported to police in Australia and New Zealand, and are updated annually." This is still a far cry from an actual Ancap rating.
You need to look at it from all angles.
