TOO FAST APPROACH SPEED! TOGA 💪🏻

  • This is EK3 A6EVH from DXB arriving into London Heathrow Airport. We heard from our airside source that the pilot reported they had ‘too much Approach speed’, hence the TOGA.
    Wiki says: An A380 crosses the landing threshold at a docile 140 knots and touches down, depending on its landing weight, at a speed as slow as 130 knots.
    She didn’t look/appear abnormally fast, certainly compared to other 380’s, but I guess that’s the Emirates way 👍🏻 Safety First 🙏🏻
    Listen to those Trent 900’s going full chat, or ‘through the gate’ as the Bomber Boys used to call it 💪🏻

    I really like the fact that Jerry knows when to stop talking and let the natural sounds play out. In the broadcasting world it’s called, “let it breathe”. And those engines can definitely breathe.

    TOGA is a power setting. A go around is what is flown.

      Well yes. But TOGA stands for Takeoff/Go-Around. You can call it a TOGA or a go-around as they all stand for the same thing.

    • @SeligTiles
      @SeligTiles Před 10 měsíci

      Why would you think it’s because of high speed? Just because an observer behind a camera said so?

  • @kikiryki
    @kikiryki Před 10 měsíci +1

    Modern approach is fully automatic, guided by ILS, so "too much approach speed" is not a plausible reason. The pilot might have seen something on the runway while landing or the Tower sent a "go around" instruction. When weather is bad, pilots are allways prepared for immediate "go around" procedure in the last seconds before plane touching the ground.

    • @gort8203
      @gort8203 Před 9 měsíci

      What you are saying is what is not plausible. Is it something new that pilots never fly manually now? Even on perfectly clear day? That would be a really stupid policy.

    Meanwhile back in Dubai, the entire 380 training department had strokes because of how long it took to get the handle in the “up” position.

  • @khusroalam3248
    @khusroalam3248 Před 11 měsíci

    Unstabilized approach most likely , or a system warning requiring GA.
    The only other causes could be atc instruction for some reason, weather which also causes unstable approach and runway incursion. Apparently none of those.

  • @iampostcode
    @iampostcode Před 11 měsíci +1

    Too much approach speed? Nope, power kicks in just as a bump of crosswind hits, and, as others have put, the approach becomes unstable. It was doing 134kts at the point of approach the go around was triggered, which, is perfectly fine for the type.

      A good airline will have a no questions asked go-around policy. If pilots were to get in trouble for going around they'd start continuing with approaches they shouldn't to avoid the scrutiny.
      Ryanair at the very least have that policy, I don't know about other airlines but it'd surprise me if they differed.
