  • REMASTERED VERSION with better sound and physical chessboard.
    The most famous game of chess ever played. Paul Morphy vs the two noblemen Karl II of Brunswick and Comte Isuard. The Opera Game is a stunning piece of chess history that showed us the value of space and initiative, decades before those concepts where even beginning to be understood, let alone mastered.
    If you want to support this series of videos on the Immortal classics of chess, you can consider becoming a Patron at: / overview...
    As some has noted the "other chess commentator" I mention in the video is indeed the very famous Agadmator who has also done a video on the Opera Game.
    The Game:
    Paul Morphy vs Karl II & Comte Isouard
    1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Bg4 4.dxe5 Bxf3 5.Qxf3 dxe5 6.Bc4 Nf6 7.Qb3 Qe7 8.Nc3 c6 9.Bg5 b5 10.Nxb5 cxb5 11.Bxb5+ Nbd7 12.O-O-O Rd8 13.Rxd7 Rxd7 14.Rd1 Qe6 15.Bxd7+ Nxd7 16.Qb8+ Nxb8 17.Rd8# 1-0
    From Wiki:
    The Opera Game was an 1858 chess game played at an opera house in Paris between the American chess master Paul Morphy and two strong amateurs: the German noble Karl II, Duke of Brunswick and the French aristocrat Comte Isouard de Vauvenargues. It is among the most famous of chess games. Duke Karl and Count Isouard consulted together, playing as partners against Morphy. The game is often used by chess instructors to teach the importance of rapid development of one's pieces, the value of sacrifices in mating combinations, and other chess concepts.
    The Immortals is a an ASMR Series about the most famous chess games ever played, their moves, history and setting. The series is meant to be instructive as well as relaxing, with an emphasis on a calm, soothing voice and pleasing visuals. The series will cover games from the romantic era with Paul Morphy, Adolph Anderssen all the way up to the modern classics of Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov.

    • @aidenfarthing7092
      @aidenfarthing7092 Před 2 lety +2

      @@jaybartgis5148 I imagine because the bishop will take the knight on F6. Black is forced to take with the G pawn, as taking with the queen removes the guard of the B pawn and loses the rook. Taking with the pawn damages black's structure and walls the king in with doubled pawns - not desirable.

    10:11 I have a question if anyone can help me answer, I'm am amateur at chess (Rating 630) and I was wondering that whenever I play with Whites bishop on g6 to pin the knight to the queen, my opponent usually responds with pawn to h 6 to immediately threaten it, I move bishop to h4 to keep the pin and then they play pawn to g5. So I whenever I play this move I always find myself retreating my bishop. I see people do this very often but in professional play it doesn't happen very much. Is it bad for black to be throwing their pawns at my bishop like that?

    • @ASMRChess
      @ASMRChess  Před 3 lety +3

      It all depends on the position. It is most common to castle kingside and the pawns on f7, g7 and h7 make up the walls of the castle (see my video "everything you need to know about castling" to learn more about this). When they chase your bishop around by attacking it with the g- and h-pawns they are compromising the integrity of their defensive structure. In other words they are leaving holes in the walls of their castle and that can be a serious weakness that you can later exploit. Other times the tempi they gain by advancing their pawns can help them launch an attack on your king so there is no quick or easy answer. It all depends on the position.

      It was the record of their games. Chess games are scores 1-0 for wins, 0-1 for losses, and 0.5-0.5 for draws.
      So in the match against Anderssen, Morphy won 8-3. This means over the course of 11 games, Morphy won 8 and Anderssen won 3, or alternatively, Morphy won 5, and 6 games drew, or a number of other combinations.
      What matters is that these are all quite convincing wins, even against the other top players of the time, Morphy was unmatched
