Hello! Theatre major here!
A lot of people are confused about changes but it’s difficult to adapt many media’s to the stage. They only have a certain amount of time therefore many things had to either be cut or moved around. Also, many executions would be impossible to adapt to the stage without it A. looking unrealistic or B. someone getting injured. It’s just the way it has to be. I think they did wonderful despite the challenges they had to face! Also, the creator of the game was overseeing everything so nothing was done without his consent!
On another note: These actors were PHENOMENAL. Each and every one really embodied their character and stole the show in their own ways!
Don’t forget! Be grateful for what we do have! They did this for you guys! They certainly didn’t have to.

As someone who has also studied theatre, I completely agree. Honestly, I think adding the extra rule that "voting wrong, even if everyone else gets it right, means you die" was probably the best thing they could have changed. Yeah, it sucks having to cut down on cases, but at the very least you should try to keep internal logic.
Honestly, the only thing I'd have changed is if we could see more Plushie Monokuma, rather that Animated-Screen Monokuma, you know what I mean? But that's just wish-fulfillment XD

Honestly... This stage play does a better job with the character arcs of Celeste and Taka than the games.
Taka dies voting against the odds for his homie, when his arc in the game was less fulfilling and seemed more cut short.
And then Celeste... who I personally thought did a pretty shitty job in the game of conveying herself as "The Ultimate Gambler" as she played her hand way too quickly and made the investigation obvious. But in this one? She stakes her entire life on a gamble of whether she was the one who killed Sakura or if she killed herself. And drags Hifumi down with her. And I feel that's a more fitting end to the Life of an Ultimate Gambler.
Yea they should re-make the game with this storyline
Honestly I agree
Plus in her FTEs she briefly mentions Makoto's luck rivaling her own, and I feel that this was really seen in the stage version. Makoto and his friends choose to vote for Sakura as the blackened, and they end up being right, whereas Celestia's gamble fails. Her luck fails against Makoto's in a way.
Taka's situation was very neatly tied up. I would have loved to see that actor play the super intense white-haired version though!
The only problem I have with Celeste's gamble is the fact that she voted herself... how would she even win? To start with, there's the confusion of "does Monokuma decide who killed Ogami, or is it the votes that decide"? They completely gloss over it.
Now, if it's the votes who decide, then her best bet is to vote for Ogami. If Celeste is chosen as the blackened, then she *is* the blackened and must be excecuted. But if Ogami is chosen as the blackened, she only lives if she also voted Ogami. On the other hand, if Monokuma gets to decide, then she's essentially at Monokuma's mercy. If Monokuma *did* chose Celeste as the blackened, then her voting herself adds to "the majority", and so she brings herself closer to loss. But if Monokuma chooses Ogami as the blackened, then, again, she only lives if she also voted Ogami.
Like, I absolutely agree that this case is a better showcase of the Ultimate Gambler, but it falls apart at the end. Specifically because Celeste can *only* live by voting Ogami. As the Ultimate Gambler, especially someone who's studied game theory, she would know this, and she would have voted Ogami.
Now, that's not to say we must throw the change out with the bathwater. We could instead change it to where Monokuma says something like "well, if Ogami hadn't been poisoned, she wouldn't have even been in a position where Celeste could kill her to begin with, so Ogami is the blackened." Hifumi could have voted for her, allowing his excecution, but in this alternate scenario, Celese voted Ogami. Then, they go forward with the trial for who killed Ikusaba. But, instead of Naegi being the one Monokuma pins the murder on, it's Celeste, and *that's* how she dies. Monokuma can then say something like "well, of course the Ultimate Gambler is a liar, of course she'd still cling to innocence. But it's all true. Celeste killed Ikusaba, thinking either she'd killed the mastermind and the game is over, or no one would suspect her and she'd win. She lost her first gamble and couldn't help but double down."
Or something like that. TBH, I don't think my solution would have worked that much better, especially since the 3rd game trial was cut because they only had so much time on stage...
In conclusion, it's a more fitting end, but it sacrifices the internal logic of the situation, including the new rule of "if you vote the wrong person, you still die". It could have been worked over a bit more. I absolutely love the idea of Celeste losing a gamble, but it should have been better incorporated into both the game *and* the play.

This version of Celestia is way better than the game's version. Her trial seemed strange and a bit too obvious for me which was not really fitting for a character like her. This version played with her talent as the ultimate gambler and still included her being wrong AND lying to everyone. She could have won with the help of Lady Luck and that's perfect for her!
I agree Chapter 3 sucked so much in the game because of how painfully obvious she was from the start when she got "hit". It was painful to deal with the entire chapter for the genius gambler. It honestly pissed me off on my 1st playthrough.

Gotta admit, I loved the way the stage play handled Junko’s punishment compared to the game. If all Junko wanted was to have a taste of the despair that comes with death, then that’s what they couldn’t let her have. Just seemed like a far more fitting end.
At the same time, it's kinda irresponsible to just let someone like Junko run around when she L I T E R A L L Y ended the world. Like what's to stop her from doing something else?

I think the idea was that Junko was bored of everything, and simply wanted to die. Sure, she could've lived out the rest of her days in the despair-filled world that she created, but that would eventually become tiring. There is no despair to be felt in knowing you won, she wanted to lose so she could feel the despair of death, but it never came.
Hearing Junko’s/Mukuro’s “You...went too far.” hurt so much to hear. Like the line never really made sense to me, but as I rewatch things from the game and anime it just hurts😭
