    Fun/sad fact: After Jack found out Rose passed away, he would go back in time to look over her when she was a small child, he'd also watch over Jacky aswell. He'd use several years on watching Rose grow up, and keep her out of danger.

When he met Rose and The Doctor, he had introduced himself to them using that name, and had grown to like it, so continued to use it. He later met that soldier who was called Jack Harkness during a rift issue that Torchwood Three was investigating. Jack is the only companion who can really understand the doctor.
    He knows the pain of loneliness
    He's a man full of love and humanity
    And he understands the sadness of losing someone he loves, so he can understand and sympathize with the Doctor more than anyone else.
    Even if everyone else leaves the Doctor after a very long time, Jack is the only companion to stay with him.,A man who understands the pain of eternal life. A friend of the Doctor's eternal friend.
    Jack tried to understand and comfort the doctor's wounds by telling the doctor, 'You're not alone,' even as he died as Bo's face.

    It’s sadder because he can’t even wrap his head around immortality himself. It’s painful, he stands and watches the world collapse around him; watches the earth beneath his very feet crack. He has to watch everyone he loves die, everyone around him grow old- something he longs for. But each time, they blame him. It’s his fault, he’s immortal, it’s him. But they don’t think. They don’t think about how much pain; how much tournament; how many lives; how many times he’s seen death; how much times he’s buried himself in his work just to get away. They don’t think about how he feels like everything is his fault. Each time someone he loves dies, a part of him does too. They’re not the only one that’s tired of him living with secrets- he is. He’s based around them, everyone in his life is covered in blood, and their blood is slowly drowning him. He’s been choking on everyone’s blood for so long, and he has to for the rest of eternity. Every death, every cut, every child, Lisa, Steven, Alice, Gray, Ianto, Rose, John, Tosh, Owen, Susie- it’s all his fault. And he drowns in it every day. The man that can never die, isn’t really alive: he’s merely breathing. Merely existing.
    But he has to just “Exist” for eternity. And he doesn’t even get a choice.

    • @razorransom1795
      @razorransom1795 Před 3 lety +3

      Welp, its just that way also with surviving major disasters natural or man made. You have choices to make, whether good or bad, its your successors to decide, but sometimes it's better the doctors way, be mindful of your past but keep looking forward otherwise survivors guilt and the guilt of making such decisions will crush ya, well at least if ya have some morality and a heart. Good example of someone who goofed up with such a siduation was Lot. His wife looked back as fleeing even though told not to, turned to salt. He was so traumatized he should have allowed his daughters to go back to family to find husbands, he should have gone to abraham and found such among the tribe or back to older family like abraham made Issac and issac made jacob do. Third cousins are far enough away to marry ( intertwining keeps certain good traits in the family strong as said like a pedigree), but sometimes its good to also go outside the family every so often for other traits. Like how certain wheats have a fungus resistance that the normal doesnt. It depends on the siduation and choices at hand as well as love, without love and a close friendship and understanding, any marriages are null and void and just crumble. It is always bad, even toxic, for a marriage and kids if its held together by finances, items, inheritance, positions, greed, bad ambition, and so forth. No love, usually equals a world of trauma that can last for several generations if not forever in some cases when running around and cheating comes into physical form of other children. 😨 Then throw into the mix that many do it in a local area, some state or country wise others global, for such things, ruins diversity and makes it easier for gene issues and complications to pop up, and is just disgusting and morally wrong in so many ways.

      I think the biggest difference between Jack and The doctor, is the Doctor runs, through time and space and rarely ever looks back. The doctor can change faces, become someone new and it dulls the pain of loss because each doctor is different from the last
      Jack can only ever be Jack. He is trapped as himself with his memories and unlike the doctor, he spends time looking back.
      If they do a new Torchwood it would be interesting if Jack met Me/Ashildr. Jack immortal man, Me the immortal woman. Both of them with lasting damage from the doctor. Both were cursed and abandoned by the doctor with little explanation

    This amazing edit made me realize how grounded Jack is (in Torchwood mostly) when compared to the Doctor. The Doctor stories we get usually work out in the end with ex machinas to save the day, but Jack has to make the difficult choices and live on with them.
    I'm not saying that the Doctor doesn't make hard choices, but I think Torchwood brings that point across much better because of the more mature nature.

      But, against that sentiment is the fact that the Doctor stops the bigger villains.
      I mean, the Dalek invasion of Earth when Jack's team existed showed how it would go without the Doctor, even with the help of all the other figures and organizations that exist from the Doctor's Third Incarnation onwards helping out as well.
      Total destruction, had the Daleks not had an ulterior motive for taking Earth in the first place.
      Now, put that with the Autons, the Sontarans and the all the others the Doctor has defeated, it would turn out the same result. The Master took the Earth without them even realising what was happening.

      The Doctor often trades on his interstellar reputation. Probably the clearest example here is how he made the Atraxi fear him in "Eleventh Hour". Because of the few extremely horrendous things he did (like killing the Dalek fleet above Gallifrey), he can trade on that notoriety to not have to do similar actions repeatedly. He also has more advanced technologies and a better understanding of technology/science than Jack Harkness, allowing him greater flexibility in peacefully/bloodlessly resolving conflicts. Jack Harkness lacks these two key advantages, which is why his solutions are more messy and filled with difficult choices.

The abandonment, only to come back later, the suspicion of his teammates even as they follow him to the grave, the pain of living such an incredibly long life, it all mirrors The Doctor in a way that you don't see by only watching the main series. It's incredibly sad.

I’ve never seen Torchwood, only DW, and even then not in several years, so I understand about 7% of this video, but still so much emotion cams through. The ways you cut scenes together and transitioned between all these different dialogues to build on a theme really worked. I feel like I understand a lot of general meaning even knowing so little about his story.

      @@jmills6397 read anne cathrine Emmrich life or christ. I think he is mentioned in there. That part was either omitted in the bible selection due to jewish vs gentile schism and his existance was a kept secret by then and in a way still is. His story wasn't known till later when he got baptised and took up the name Joseph, original name capharius.😎 Got curious after an anime mentioned that story and name and then saw it agai when skimming and picking section reading in Life of christ. The issue made more sense after my studies on jewish and european history and was jesus a jew class. I saw the unsaid or blatently ignored from pride and,being chosen over the jews part of christianity and understood the never mentioned jewish vs gentile Schism and Acts made more sense and I saw the divisons grow between gentiles and jews on paper over the laws and the interpertation on traditions and opinion over them. Although the jews did have ro follow them to end of time jewish or not due to God' s promise to abraham, but they were added on to and twisted so much by pharasees and sadducees it was being to burdensome on people, thus why Jesus came in to fulfill them (but doesn't mean bring to an end but completes them, showing the whole picture, and simpfling them back to what they were. Also it was wrong on the jews part to try to force the gentil to do it aude their were still new and sproutlings. Also a documentwry my mom and I watched on historians on Jesus, Peter and Paul's lives also highlighted these facts and brought some new facts to life. Like how when Jesus died and raised back up who did he give the keys to the kingdom and temple too? What did jews on the temple do to them and what ultimately happened? To Peter and the group, technically mary maglean was head of the women after the blessed virgin Mary, cause the women had their own side on the temple. And Paul (Saul) wad only half jewish moms side, other roman dads side, thus why he was never crucified but beheaded cause roman citizen. But why he was suppose to head the gentile half as James was jewish bishop.). Peter after was it citing what moses said about not wanting to drown the seedlings, said cannot halve too follow the Kosher laws fully but the comandments and refrained from idol blessed produce, meat or food. But after the disciples died, everything went to ruins with gentiles made at jews and them doing the law and gentile pride scarring many back into the pharasee and saducce arms and new modern judaism. Then the rift got so bad, it turned into anti semitism. I believe of the rift wasn't there, i believe protestantism would have never taken place, cause their is much brought to the table with the jewish oral traditions passed down. Then both groups ted purifying and distilling their sister religions (vaule modern judaism is not ancient Judaism and modern and judaism are siblings then),so they were so distinct from each other and that no one coule see the others side otherwise ostracized from all. Thus treatment on both sides to each other gor worse, and if God blessed some jews it too the gentiles would not acknowledge it. The jews are the working in the physical realm and creation as gentiles are more spiritual only. Both are halves of a whole, and that needs fixed before end of time. Thus why romans 11 and the sheep two flocks become one. Thus why anne cathrine emmrich's gentile bias also got repamanded and fixed and was given the sugar and strawberry anology. If rome ever part burns or gets geo gassed, its suppose to go back to Israel then. Also what is up with the church in eclipse, black pope and mouth piece/s and st johns boscos ships, two pillars and the great storm.

      Not necessarily, sure lot of authors of sci-fi and fantasy sees it that way, but since we don't know anyone immortal those are just wild guesses.
      In opinion person would adapt, get used to it also if that person would be forever young it could meet new people, experiencing new adventures, and so on, people are born all the time.
      And lastly, just because others lives will be limited does not diminish their value in getting to know them.
      But I think trying to judge immortality without being immortal is like judging ability to fly, without being able to, lot of people would tell you that it would be terrifying and yet there are people and animals who fly with enjoyment.

    Jack's story is full of so much pain, and such deep caring, and such a strong (yet sometimes twisted) sense of duty. I think he and Ashilde/Me should've gotten together, since they're both functionally immortal. Maybe that would've given them both some sense of normalcy, of stability.
    I love this whole damned thing! It shows the entire depth and breadth of Captain Jack. "The joy is worth the pain."
    Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️❤️

  • @Trashloot
    @Trashloot Před 3 lety +4

    The doctor probably went through all the pain that jack experienced. Jack is quite young compared to the doctor so we can assume that the doctor learned to live with his immortality. But Jack is still in the process of figuring it out. The doctor has it easier as well because he can regenerate and look after people he cares for undercover. (Don't know if they ever did it but i feel like it would be handy. Its way easier to run away or watch from the shadows when you got a new face.)
