  • Kenya’s automotive industry is largely fossil fuels powered, even as the country looks to embrace clean energy in a bid to fight climate change. With the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy launched in 2020 envisioning Kenya’s e-mobility to grow by 5% by 2030, ventures like Roam Electric have entered the Kenyan market to provide alternatives to fossil fuels. In our Made in Kenya segment, Edward Chweya tells us how Roam Electric is providing e-motorbikes to the bodaboda sector in Kenya.

      @@erickjuma7643 There are bikes worth even 10 million+. But Electric motorcycles have fewer parts, which means the cost should be lower.
      These Roam bikes want to adopt models where even normal TVS or Bajaj are given to riders, and these people pay four times the value of the bike. That's extortion.

      no sir , 400k is the amount you pay when you take the bike on loan. kindly show more keenness on listening. try paying more attention on what is said rather than your own mix up. Remember that you'll pay about 370k on loan for a similar fuel bike on loan. however e. bikes on first hand pay is 190k . fuel bikes are worth 160k . remember the prices vary per brand , its not constant,. alternatives exist.

For an electrick bike?? This is crazy. If a bodaboda can afford this,,,then he must be a RICH guy. Thumps up👍👍👍 for whoever will buy this bikes.

      @@yussufduale4142 ... Granted the battery at 3Kwh is already valued at nearly 200K ... But who are they expecting to buy these?
      Maybe if they make the battery multifunction. Meaning owners can use it to light up their houses at night, listen to music, watch television, et c.
      Then that would be a saving of like almost 100K, compared to buying a separate lighting system.

    They should make the battery to be multifunctional ... Have a kit that can be installed in a rural home or a small house that can then use the battery for lighting and television/ music.
    This would make the cost to be totally worth it. Because domestic power system is already like 100K expense.
    Then there should be a way to charge the battery using Solar panel without having to pass through an inverter to make 240V AC ... Meaning one battery can be left at home, charging by solar for free, to be used the following day ... Making cost of "fuel" to be literally zero ... Considering how cheap solar panels have become.

    • @dennismwangi6026
      @dennismwangi6026 Před 9 měsíci +3

      Isn't that what the portable charger is for? Charge at home. Then, the argument about running your home power, does your car double up as a generator? This an unrealistic demand that seems smart but utterly unreasonable.

    • @wayando
      @wayando Před 9 měsíci

      @@dennismwangi6026 ... I believe this Portable charger they are talking of is the equivalent of a laptop charging cable ... For converting 240V AC to DC that charges the battery.
      A DC to DC converter would be completely different thing that can be used to convert a high voltage DC Solar setup into a level that is able to charge the motorcycle battery.
      Meaning free sunlight can charge the battery, with minimal losses that happen when passing through an inverter.

    • @wayando
      @wayando Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@dennismwangi6026 ... A car can in fact double double as a generator ... You can plug you music system or television to the car battery through an inverter and it will work perfectly 😅😅
      The issue is it wouldn't be an efficient generator.
      But plugging DC appliances to a DC battery via a DC-DC converter is basically 95% efficient, maybe even better.

    • @dennismwangi6026
      @dennismwangi6026 Před 9 měsíci

      @@wayando as I said earlier, your demands are unreasonable. Even a normal solar panel cannot charge a laptop until you either use a DC - DC buck boost step up or stepdown if you have a 24v power supply. In most cases, I wager you never think about it.
      Secondly, the time it would take you is so long and impractical unless you install, again, an expensive solar system to do that. Which then doesn't make sense unless you want to go fully off grid. Just look at the current requirements to charge a battery. You will understand why your grind power is sensible.
      Btw, these electric motorbikes battery are usually around 50V give or take 2. Let's start from that point.

    • @dennismwangi6026
      @dennismwangi6026 Před 9 měsíci

      @@wayando Did you note the use of the word "can"? I don't mean that you can't also use the motorbike as such that's why you also talked of "can" in your car example not not "is used".
      Your electric bike is not looking to replace your grind. In fact, it's looking to use the grind to power it. Get the difference. You must understand the relationship between the bike and the power grind.
