Big Country - The Seer Live in New York (laserdisc rip)

  • Re-uploaded with improved quality.
I was never particularly happy with the original laserdisc upload, too much fine detail was lost in the copying and uploading process so this is a new attempt with a few adjustments.
    Big Country. August 27, 1986.
'The Seer - Live in New York' - Laserdisc Version.
To be able to upload a copy of this laserdisc (only ever released in Japan) was high on my wish list for as long as I’d had the BC1000stars CZcams Channel.
Two years ago I was able to finally find a copy of the highly prized NTSC laserdisc of this great live show and make a direct copy of it from my laserdisc player.
As the original tapes of this concert have allegedly been “lost,” the chance of this show getting an official DVD release is very slim.
This NTSC Laserdisc displays at nearly twice the picture quality (425TVL lines as opposed to 240TVL lines for VHS) and is a better copy than my originally posted transfer which I have now taken down.
It’s not Full HD or even DVD quality but it’s the best quality upload of this show on CZcams at the moment.
Presented in its original 4:3 aspect ratio - BIG COUNTRY's 'The Seer - Live in New York.'
    00:00 Remembrance Day

kids, take notes, if you ever wonder what a guitar driven band is ? this is the perfect exemple. Such energy and harmonies in the riffs. The tone is heaven. full of high and the bass complete the low keys. wow.

The other day I was listening to this while happily marching behind my lawn mower. At Harvest Home I spontaneously stopped, pointed at my neighbor, and shout “Just as you sew you shall reap!” while doing little heel clicks and jigs. He probably thinks I’m on the way to the loony bin, which may be true. 😜

After Stuart saw some fighting in the audience (34:19), he first played on, then looked around for help (34:31) and finally stopped playing (34:39). And after only one second the rest of the band stopped! Fascinating. He had always an eye for the audience. :-)

It's great to view one, in my opinion, of the best LIVE bands ever. They were the first band I ever saw, on the previous Steeltown album tour, saw them a few times after, and a great show they produced time and time again. They were so underrated and underplayed on radio, but fans like those below me appreciated and knew they were in for a great night whenever they rocked up in our town. Cheers for this, brings back a of good memories, and great tunes. The Seer is my second favourite album after their excellent debut album The Crossing, of which the title track with Kate Bush on backing vocals, (how they got that done is a miracle in itself) is haunting. Utterly Superb 🤘

IMO, the best live band I've ever seen. The raw talent on the stage was mesmerizing. As great as Stuart was, what are the odds you find 3 others who are right there with you in their own craft? Only other band I saw that could hang was The Fixx and I've seen them a few times where it didn't come together for them but they co-headlines with The Alarm on their Ink tour and they were on another level that night. Wish it had been recorded because it was unreal. Big Country blew the doors out on every occasion I had to see them. Nothing else like them.

My first ever rock concert was for this very tour for The Seer in 1986, it was at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco CA ,I thought the band were larger than life ,heroes , i was lucky to be there to see them .Stuart is the phenom of his generation , way more talented than his contemporaries ,but very humble and a genuine nice man ,he is missed by all of us

A slice of time where Stuart Adamson was riding high and probably in one of the happiest moments of his life - you can see it in his smile throughout the performance. He seemed like a good soul, I hope he is at peace now wherever he is.

Someone sent me a copy of this on VHS about 20 years ago. It's about that long since I've seen it last. I think BC got better live as time went by, so if their studio albums surpassed their live recordings in the 80s, it was the other way around in the 90s. "Come Up Screaming", which I've only picked up recently, may get my vote as their best album.
