Most of you will probably know Peter Baltes from his time in the legendary German metal band Accept, where he spent 42 years as a key songwriter and the bassist for the band. Peter left Accept in 2018 and is now part of a new power metal band called Ashrain, featuring Japanese guitarist and producer Nozomu Wakai.
In this interview, Peter talks candidly about the reasons he left Accept, and how he met guitarist Nozomu Wakai and got involved with Ashrain. He also talks about a very special bass, the importance of family, and the thing that tops his bucket list.
Ashrain has a full-length album called Requiem Reloaded coming out April 14, 2023 on Metalville Records.

Peter is just great. I visited the guys at the soundcheck and they all came to me at the show. Peter is always likeable and an absolute role model musically. He was the true heart of ACCEPT
He is definitely a likable guy. I thoroughly enjoyed this time with Peter. Really happy to see him still playing and sharing his talent, too.
Thanks for watching!
Favorite bass tone ever. Peter is the reason I took up bass as a lad. Sad that he left Accept, but so good to get the story, finally. Thanks for the great music, Peter, past/present/future. Great interview, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I'm really glad you enjoyed the conversation, and I am so thankful to Peter for being so candid. I think we had all been wondering exactly what happened for several years!
Peter is a wonderful person to talk with, and his bass tone and style are one of a kind, indeed. Cheers, Thomas!
@@DrMusicInterviews I met Peter and Wolf during the “Eat the Heat” tour. They were playing a small club in Lincoln, Nebraska, just hanging out by the P.A. speaker cabinets during the opening act. That was the first of two times I saw them in tiny venues with a handful of patrons. I appreciated that they gave it their all despite dismal attendance.
It's great that you got a chance to see them and meet them in such intimate venues. I'm pretty sure you'll always get 100% from both Peter and Wolf each and every time they play. They're both real musicians that really love playing music. Cheers!
Cheers Peter, wishing you the best.
A great interview with a very humble musician and man. Keep on rocking, Peter! ❤ from France. Hearing "Fast as a shark " for the first time back in 83 was amazing for à 14 year old kid! Still amazing today ! You can really sing too! Glad you're happy again. Love. Christophe D. ❤❤😊
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts and kind words, Christophe! So glad you enjoyed the conversation! All the best to you.
Peter is an absolute legend.
Without a doubt. I am so thankful he is still out there making music.🤗
Peter ,, I remember hanging out with you Johanna and the kids at your home in Bensalem Pennsylvania.. They were great times I remember your wood shed where you wrote music and sometimes getting to watch the master at work.....
Another great interview Doc....Great job bro!!!!
I have to say, it's easy when you have great guests that are friendly, candid, intellectual, and interesting like Peter. So glad you enjoyed it, and I always appreciate the kind words and support, my friend!
There's always two sides to every story, but I would take Peter over Wolf every time! 😂
Fantastic interview. I'm so happy to hear Peter side of the story as far as Accept concerned. His new music is really good
Thanks so much for watching and sharing the kind words. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks to Peter for being so candid here. It was great to hear him speak about it. Great to know that you like the new material, too. It is excellent!! Thanks again!
Great interview ... and great to hear from Peter.. this gave me the insight to the split from Accept I needed. Its so sad to hear it, but I was assuming that.. Would be so great to hear the old Accept gang (even/better? w/o Wolf) live again! Viele Grüße aus Deutschland
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the interview! It has always seemed to be unclear as to why Peter left. I was so pleased to hear the real story from Peter. Always sad when our band families don’t get along, but it’s a relief to know the truth. It is also great to hear that Peter is happy now. An Accept without Wolf…. Don’t know if that’s possible, but I’d give it a listen!😊 Warmest regards to you, and thank you so much for watching!
@@DrMusicInterviews ... honestly i think that Accept without Udo is not possible! So U.D.O. or the old gang is more Accept for me than Wolfs Reinkarnation. Yes the music is not bad, but it's not the same without udo, and lately without Peter and Herman! Also Dirk founded Accept in 1971 without any of the others. For me Steelfactory is the best Accept album in the last decades 😅
There is still a lot of love for Udo and the original band. I think there are quite a few fans that feel as you do.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Thank you very much for the great interview.
Looking forward to the arrival of ASHRAIN "Requiem Reloaded" which I have already pre-ordered!
From Japan.
I’m so very glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and supporting the channel! Great to hear that you have ordered the Ashrain album. It is excellent!
Great interview - Peter is one of my favs. Well done
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words and support!
I'm so glad I could bring you this interview, and that you enjoyed it!
Saw Udo at a club with 10 other people
Place was empty but Udo and his band
We’re absolutely Great.
Performance was outstanding and they sounded great
Great to hear that they are still sounding great. It’s a shame when people don’t come out to see these legends. I sure would like to see Udo!
@@DrMusicInterviews and with the place being empty
He never came back onto the island ever again
And I don't blame him.
But you would never know by the performance.
And I saw accept with the new vocalist.
No comparison
No, I don't blame him either, but it really is a shame. There are so many fans like you and I that appreciate their talents. I just wish more would come out to support them when they play.
I loved when Peter spoke about the impact of Udo's voice and the strength it has. That is something that really shines through in the live setting.
No Peter, no party. Accept without Peter is like Deep Purple without Ian Gillan...
Bad comparison. Purples best two albums (Burn, Stormbringer) were without Gillian
Absolutely ridiculous that after 42 years together Peter was treated that way! He was a founder of the band. Too bad!!😡. Glad to see he is working again and sounds happier!👍
That's a problem for us, fans. Changes in bands are from one perspective normal, but we, the fans, we would like to see usually the original line-ups, but... People change through the years, sometimes business issues become more important. That is why in the end we see our respected bands... with only one or two original members... Accept is, as it seems, a business of one man with his ego, as Peter has said here... Mark Tornillo does a great vocal job, he is new, but already established band member... Look at famous German Kraftwerk. It was actually a duo, although the band consisted of four men. It was the band of Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider, while Karl Bartos and Wolfgang Flur were somehow hired and filled the need of the '"band owners" to be a quartet. Suddenly Karl and Wolfgang left and in their interviews they say, they weren't happy with their membership with little possible impact on a composing level, they don't meet their colleagues nowadays. Florian died... and the band still plays, but consists only of one original member. I'm Polish. We have so many respected bands in Poland, also renowned internationally (Vader, Behemoth, Riverside). Some of them ended up with disputes, quarrels or cases in courts! There's a band Kombi, that is very big in Poland. The band existed for 40 years, but recently the members went even to the European court to come to terms with "who's entitled to the band name"... That is said...
Glad Peter has moved on to new and happier place. Accept is not accept without Udo. Udo's band is awesome with Udo's son on drums and the lead guitarist is great. I can't watch Accept or listen to them without Udo and they were one of my fav bands.
