      Judging by his interview he’s already there mate! He’s found some kind of peace and even if he doesn’t get back to that number 10 role well I’ll always remember that goal against palace. He will get there! He’s got similarities to Gazza but it’s a different era now and things can change for Del Boy whereas with Gazza it was too late in football terms. Just look back on some of them right footed volleys Dele scored. You never lose that kind of skill, that’s something he was born with and he can come back and he will never lose that natural technique not ever. Good look Del!

His story will undoubtably inspire others going through similar battles to know they are not alone. Speaking up is brave. Seeking help is brave. No matter how hard things get, there is always hope. Dele embodies the strength it takes to acknowledge pain in order to heal. His desire to use his platform to connect with people and make a difference during difficult times is truly admirable. This conversation shines light on issues that are often stigmatized but so deeply affect lives. I hope it sparks more open, compassionate dialogue around mental health. I went through sexual abuse from the age of 9-13yrs old at my father's hands, and it took twenty years to heal from what he did to me. As a female survivor supporting other men and women who have had similar experiences through my organisation Daughter Arise, it is devasting to hear and witness the impact the life-altering effect it has and, without support or help to face the trauma, how it can cause life long damage. So many men that I have spoken to have never told anyone in their family circle what they have been through. Too often they hear that boys don't cry and that men have to be strong. yet regardless, male or female we all start as children. Poor lad we have all dragged him through the mud for his so called “lack of interest” but trauma has controlled him all his life. Any one or any footballer needs our support.

    • @DM-vo2ke
      @DM-vo2ke Před 9 měsíci +2

      So sorry to hear you've struggled and amazing that you've found a way through.
      But, I have to challenge that statement about feeling free. Everyone's depression is unique and so you can't necessarily understand how other people feel. In this case (and yours from the sound of it) it's clearly linked back to a trigger event and whilst you'll always carry the scars, you can address the root cause and free yourself from the depression. However, there are people who suffer from Chronic depression and luckily they may never have had your trauma but equally they will never be free of it. Medication and therapy can help but they will always suffer from depression no matter what. What they need are some tools to manage it and having a great network of people around them (if they're lucky enough too)
      Definitely, everyone should open up and seek help when ready as that is liberating but for some, it's here to stay and it's important that people realise that rather than thinking help will alleviate it completely.

      Absolutely agree, this is exactly why I never call a player trash, finished, horrible or whatever else derogatory. Footballers are people not fictional characters. Decent people treat each other with respect. In almost all comment sections of football related content, 90% of the comments are mean-spirited, immature and unproductive shit. Love the sport, hate the fans tbh

      Yes Neville’s loaded, but it’s clear he backs up his politics in what he says and does. The idea that liberals with money should be martyrs and show solidarity by living in poverty is bollocks frankly. They should use their privilege and platform for the vulnerable and oppressed, and people like Neville and Lineker do.
      The fact is you don’t get an interview like that from someone with a more right-wing outlook, because there generally is less tolerance, empathy and understanding of different experiences to their own, and the interviewee doesn’t reveal anything.
      In fact, it’s almost certain that the right-leaning elements of the press were the ones ready to expose this story against Dele Alli’s will. Really pleased that he got his message across properly by speaking to someone genuinely decent and compassionate. If there’s anyone immorally after money at the expense of others, it’s the gutter press, not Gary Neville.
