Jesse Richman deserves lots of credit for being out there . it's clear that he's in control of the kite ~ Just learning this kite thing in my 4th year or so now... MUCH more difficult than it seemed to me. Once you learn to fly the kite tho it's freakin awesome. Surfing waves and doing that is a natural progression ~ BIG WAVES WELL ~ further down the road for sure ~

holy cow, how TF do you surf a wave like this AND keep tract of a kite at the same time!!!!??? some humans are just plain amazingly coordinated.
As a kitesurfer for 20 years & been in over 15 mtr swells, your kite becomes an extension of you (like a third arm).
The trick with this level of surf is not to let it intimidate or scare you into submission... that happens & you're history!

@@luismarques9280 Hi Luis, My apologies. My comment was meant to be humorous. I am very sorry if it was not taken that way. It seems to me that a place with 30 metre waves is not a good place to set out in a fishing boat. I have been to Portugal once, a few years ago, and I loved everything about the country. On our next trip there I will make it a point to visit Nazaré!

Well, the 30 ft waves are formed in a specific path, it is not all over the place. And we must give even more respect to those guys. Portugal built a huge empire sailing all over the world facing the mighty Atlantic...those guys were really brave ones 😉
There is a famous Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa that once said "oh sea, how much of your salt is from Portuguese tears" more or less...

Awesome!!!...Definitely a way to escape when wave closes out by pulling up on the kite!!...Probably a safer option than surfing provided the kite surfer is good on waves....But still Amazing and gutsy!!!

These waves, to me, are the most symbolic natural visual manifestations we all can witness as to who GOD REALLY IS!!! You can't stop the ocean! No, the waves are a phenomenon created by a big underwater canyon, funneling the water to the coast. The word meaning is correct, Nazaré is Nazareth, the bird place of Jeses

You have to keep the kite above the lip or out the front otherwise it will lose the wind. Then you are screwed.

When the wave looks bad you just fly over the top and get the next one. efficient
The magic of offshore winds! With onshore winds it's a bit more complicated: you jump just before the wave closes and, since you go a bit faster than the wave, you land just in front of the whitewater after closure (I don't think someone will ever try it in huge waves anyway)

How does he do a recovery after losing the board as seen part way through the clip? Did the jet ski just give him another board? Can't imagine being attached to a kite and stuck in those waves without a board.
He can just body drag back to his board very quickly. Or the jet ski got it for him if another wave was coming.
At 4:50 he does the impossible. I thought the wave had him for sure.

I think he is not overpowered only when getting wind acceleration with Venturi effect at top of the wave, but all the time. Better for safety
