BOOT WONT OPEN GOLF MK4 GTI 1.8T *FIXED*

This is a common fault on these cars and the second time I have had an issue with the boot not opening. The main issues could be a number of things, broken cables in loom from boot to car, actuator not working, handle lever or just corrosion on the lock.
WD40 is my best friend and sorted out the sticky lock.

I had the same problem, I was able to manually open it from the outside using my key, then take off the interior trim and clean and lube everything:)

Hi, I have the same issue with my Audi a3 8l 2003 model. My remote button to open the boot works but I can't open the boot when I use the boot switch... I ask if this method will work because the golf has a handle and the audi has a switch.

Does your rear washer leak water into the lock? That's a common problem

I had to put some 6in1 in there on mine because sometimes it got stuck, but it was in much better shape than yours, where you can see that metal has seen a lot of water and that's why it's so corroded.

Hi mate it could possibly be the same issue, my car had a broken boot barrel because of the stuck lock. hopefully this is only stuck and after being freed will open with the remote.

Wish you had the hatch shaved. Just to see what method you would do for opening, eg: using fuel door popper or using original actuator..

Hi mate to solve this issue that cover needs to come off. It’s a pain to remove but once you get yourself in the rear just yank it out, obviously don’t forget the two screws that hold it.
