Ah man - I wss breaking in my new 25" Stihl 462 today and I'm not used to the length (I have an MS 241 with an 18" bar) and I ended up BURYING the tip in the ground whilst bucking. I've never had a blade so messed-up! It took me 30 minutes to get her sharp again, but I got the gullet! Cuts like a dream now. Anyone else noticed how high the rakers are on the Stihl chains these days?!

People talk down on the 60cc class....but I find a good 60 saw to be just a phenomenal dance partner. Light, nimble, feisty....like a tango partner with spice. Love em.

    • @em4703
      @em4703 Před 5 měsíci +3

Well this is almost as heavy as a ms 462/500i (5.9kg vs 6 and 6.3 respectively). Its nimble because the balance is great and its slim, but it isn't light for how much cc and power it has. I'd rather get the 550 mark 2

To people with a lot of filing experience, my comment may seem silly, but thank you for this angle! I'm definitely a visual learner, so I needed to see the angle of your file from three different perspectives: (1)directly above the chain, (2)from the side, up close and level with where you're filing, not above the chain, or below the chain, and (3)a view from in front of your bar… That gives me a 3-D perspective of the angles you use when you're filing - does that makes sense? Thank you so much Buckin!
(close-up shots with good lighting really help a lot also👍)

I'm going to teach myself how to file and keep my change sharp. I think I abused my chainsaw today not knowing any better. Got it stuck several times and some stumps twisted it etc.

I'm really enjoying these videos, Billy. The experience you share is gold.
One thing to consider in comparison of stock and filed chain: break in. The saw usually has a lot of internal friction when new and gains torque after break-in. I'm not sure how much of a factor that plays in your side-by-side.

  • @rodmcisaac3

I'll be interested to see what a pipe does to the bottom end and middle of this saw. I'm thinking it might make enough of a difference that this saw paired with the 28" bar could be a really nice felling saw for any trees that can be comfortably taken down with a 28" bar.

  • @aussiehardwood6196

U could touch that up with a goofy file and maintain that inner top plate angle. Im not a big fan of unsupported leading edges as I cut wood down under & it just wouldn't make it through many cuts. But without the 'hexa file' a goofy would get that straight untapered sort of 55° inner top plater. Great for the wood species your cutting.

Hey from the UK Buckin ✊I have a theory that the Husky auto tune ramps up the fuelling for longer bars and in the big cuts. I run a mk1 550xp with a 20” bar in hardwood and softwood and it’s always hungry for work, yah! Be very interesting to see how your new saw behaves in the brash compared to how that original 500i did before it got “the treatment” too. Also be interesting if you swapped out the 562xp to a .325 bar and chain (560xp!) I Been running my 576xp today, that’s a fun saw and so smooth eh? Love and Respect buddy 👍 Stand Up &Buck✊Oh and did you dump the spark arrestor on the 562xp yet? Cheers 👍

Can you compare a stock 562 vs some of your hotrod saws?

  • @shanereynolds5971

This 562 is really growing on me…I typically run a 24” .050 3/8 full house…I think this saw would pull it plenty well.

    How does it cut hardwood?

Buckin, I'm curious if the saw was already set to your altitude/location. It is amazing how much better the saw gets when it is tuned to your area. You can perform the reset by yourself by idling for 4 minutes and wide open rip cut on a log.

It’s going to grab everything and normal tooth. Would just kind of skip off a little bit but something that’s that aggressive is going to grab and rip it. And teared up super quick but it’s going to cut incredibly my opinion you probably have to keep it Trude up a lot more than the normal chain correct me if I’m wrong, Billy

Hey Buckin! I’ve noticed when you go to shut off your saws you usually pull the starter cord out a bit, why do you do that?

  • @Woodchucker.kaleb.w

But it’s like a kid in the candy store. It’s so aggressive feels great.

That saw sure will give that 400c a run for it's money!👍

The Mark 1 562 already likes to beat the meat with a 24" bar, which Is not the case of the ms 400 from what i've seen around. It was built to be a lightweight 20" beast, in fact to steal some market pool to the 562 as an european logging saw. But husky seems to have taken the lead again, 20" or 24" It be.

@@alessandromonizza8283 The 400 is just stihl putting out an overpriced marketing test subject.😂 There is no reason anyone should want to down the same amount of money as the 500i on a lesser saw.
