- Hi, Friends! I'm Jessica and thank you for joining me for the 2023 Scrappy Sampler! Today I'm sharing how I make Block 11. Today we tackle the
Y-seam. Don't worry at all- I'll break this down and make it understandable and doable. Let's make it together!
You can find the pattern for block 11 here- jessicadayon.blogspot.com/2023...
The 2023 Scrappy Sampler is a completely FREE scrappy quilt along that I'm hosting starting December 26th, 2022 and running until April 2023. You can find the details and schedule for the 2023 Scrappy Sampler on my blog- jessicadayon.blogspot.com/202...
As I mentioned in the block 1 video, my favorite iron is an Oliso ProPlus SmartIron. Oliso was kind enough to give a discount to my followers! You can get $20 off a ProPlus SmartIron using the code Pro20 at checkout. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could also use my affiliate link (the price stays the same for you but I make a small commission on any purchase you make through my link)- www.oliso.com?aff=100
If you have any questions, leave them in the comments.
Thanks for watching!

Wow is right!! I just found this video and how grateful I am!!! A block that I have tried a few times but left in a bile of mess!!!! Mystery solved! Thank you so very much! You are a great teacher!!
Glad it helped!
Excellent instructions for Y seams. I usually refer to them as the dreaded Y seams. I’m going to give it a go. Thanks 😊
You’re welcome! You can do it! They aren't really bad once you understand how to do them.
Lots of diamonds and few squares- pretty quily
You're such a great teacher😊 Your block is beautiful
Thank you so much!

Woooooow ❤️thank you 😘
Jessica, Thanks for being such a good teacher!! This is so fun to watch and learn!!
You are so welcome! I so happy you think so!
23:30 rub down the top fabric with side of pencil or roller leaving an indent of the fold below. I also saw you in one of your paper piercings fold each of the last fabric sewn so you could lay down the edge of next fabric to that fold. That I've never seen but I've only done 2 easy paper piecing. Love your videos❤️
Thanks for the tips!
Very Good!
Thanks!
OMGoodness , you are so wonderful! I’m so thrilled to learn and watch ! Binge watch! Thank you!
Yay! Thank you!
Thank you for your well-paced videos. They really do help so much for someone like me who doesn't sew y-seams very often! Much appreciation for the time you spend recording these!! 😀
Wonderful! I am so happy you find my videos helpful!
This was the most difficult of the blocks so far. I am guessing that the bias seams were the issue. The first y-seam block that we did came out great but this was not as nice to me as the other. I am moving forward and will later decide if I am going to remake it or add an additional block. I am in love with these quilt blocks and enjoying the new skills learned. Thank you.
This is definitely a difficult block. I think it is a great idea to move forward now and try again (or sub a different block) at a later date. I'm so glad you are enjoying making them! Thank you for following along!
Good morning Jessica! 🌞
Good morning!
Very good tutorial. Thank you for the hard work! It took me some time but I have an acceptable block now
That is fantastic! Way to go!
Excellent demonstration and explanations! Just getting into Y-seams! Can I ask what foot you are using on your Juki - is that a compensating foot? I have one, but someone told me to use it only on heavy /denim type fabrics - that it will affect or bunch up the stitches on lightweight cotton fabric/quiliting cottons etc? Thanks!
Hi Jessica, I'm loving your videos.
Could you tell me the name of this block so I could look it up in Electric Quilt?
thank you
Thank you! Yes, I can. In EQ8, it is called Love in a Mist.
👍
I'm a new follower....LOVE your video ! My question is for the templates, do you trace them onto something else and then rotary cut or trace/cut with scissors? I would like to give this block a try. Thanks !
You can do it a few ways. I think traditionally, you would trace them onto quilter's template and then you use that quilters template to trace the shape onto your fabric. Then, you could cut with scissors or a rotary cutter and ruler. My way is different though. I use the paper that I printed, cut the templates out, and then use my ruler on top of the template and my rotary cutter to cut it out of the fabric. What you have to be careful of if you do it like I do is that you aren't trimming away any of your paper template as you cut the fabric because then your pieces won't be the correct shape. If in doubt, I'd trace them onto fabric and then cut them out with scissors. Do you have any other questions?
Great tutorial! Just a suggestion - if you went back and edited the title of each video, for example with this one Easy Y-seams then it might increase your views and help grow your channel.
Great suggestion!
Where do you get templates
