This block is definitely a quilty skill building exercise. (My goal is to do a New York Beauty/pickle something quilt). For those tackling this block, there are two things: paper piecing and curve piecing. If you are unfamiliar (or lack proficiency) with either and want to tackle this block (and it is expertly demonstrated here) consider the following: Practice sewing all of the components together WITHOUT PAPER PIECING the arc. Just cut each of the components from scrap fabric. Your first efforts may not yield a good result in your initial learning curve. No sense investing a bunch of time in the paper pieced arcs. This block requires a little muscle memory building to see how everything fits together and to get comfortable with the curved piecing presented in this block. The paper pieced arcs are time consuming, and your first effort may not properly give them the credit due! Or maybe I'm the only person that didn't get this right on the first go!

Great tutorial. Don't you just love that compensating foot? I don't piece on my Juki, but I use that compensating foot for attaching my binding. I also have a 1/16th foot for the edge stitch on the my final pass for machine binding. These two feet provide very consistent, professional results.

I'm so happy that I've discovered you. I'm amazed that someone so young knows this technique, but what a blessing for all of us. I own my family's only Dresden quilt, which is about 100 years old! My sisters always drool over the quilt. Jessica is it possible to do this with rectangles? I have done some thought on what I want and have the fabric but I want my quilt top to be longer than it is wide. Will they still match up diagonally as rectangles and not squares? I’m thinking 4” x 5” finished

Jessica I just recently started watching you. I’m starting a quilt with lots of 21/2” squares. I always try my best lining them up. Because, I know if you’re off at first it only gets worse! I would sew, iron, pin which was hit and miss with the seams! So I noticed you sewing by feeling the seam together then iron the finished square! Wow it worked out so good and fast!!😊 Thanks so much for your help!! Love your channel! Sandy

Hello Jessica I'm watching this video you mentioned. Get used to feeling the fabric, to be able to nest your seams together. I call it a touchy feely thing. It's like when you go to the fabric store and you're feeling the fabric for the texture or the thickness of the fabric. The better quality of the fabric it has a heavier feel to it. Than cheap cotton fabric You can feel it a little bit thinner I think anyway. But this is a good rule of thumb, to get used to feeling the nesting of the seams prior to sewing the seam.

Hello Jessica, this was a great video on making dresen plate blocks. I really appreciate all your details on your instructions. And you went slow enough so that along with the instructions it could be seen easily in the video. Beautiful hand stitching also. It's a lot of work I think making the Dresden plate blocks.
