  • Amazing to return to the reef and do a check up to see what state it is in after the mass coral bleaching event a few months ago. Was great to be back diving coral reef and seeing plenty of life retuning. Still some way to go through... Also a great island camp site and some quality catch and cook meals to kept me happy.

Having a bit of a shitty morning, your videos are a valuable reminder the world is a beautiful place. If you want "side channel" content, a gopro tied to a brick and left till it runs out would be a lovely thing to have on in the background.
As amazing as all the boating/camping/fishing stuff is, I appreciate the hubbub of a family kitchen around dinnertime. Adventures are great, but home can be pretty decent to. Love your work mate.

Those plants at the 35:40 mark make excellent fire arrows. we used to break them off at the base, put some electrical tape around the base to prevent them splitting, sink a large nail into the bushy part and soak them in petrol. Launched with homemade bows using weed trimmer wire and bendy sticks.
Then it was fire arrow fights at night :) and to chase the icecream van out of our neighbourhood.

Love the content mate. Future reference always check out a hole with a wobbegong in it. I used to dive for crays commercially and that was usually a dead giveaway that a cray was inside, the wobbegong is parked up waiting to ambush octopus coming after the crayfish. I don't know if the crays take up residence with the shark or the other way around but it was better than 90% hit rate of finding them together.

Love your videos Rod. As an experienced freediver I feel compelled to give you a good bit of advice regarding diving alone particularly considering the majority of accidents occur whilst spear fishing. As you perform repeat dives the blood will accumulate CO2 volume and O2 will decrease. This is known as hypoxia. In my training we were taught to wait a good few minutes and up to ten minutes of solid breathe ups before repeat dives. This allows CO2 to dissipate normally. I had one close call performing several repeats on a line to 20 metres whereby in the last 5 metre ascent came very close to blackout. It came without warning and from then on I've always been very careful. Take care out there bro 🤙🏼

You should do a video where you compile underwater footage of the fish in your area. You could give us the real name as well as your Aussie slang for the fish, so we can understand what you are seeing. Then you could rate edible vs favorite vs uneditable and protected. We could then better understand why you take some shots and not others. Also, you can text over these scenes to explain to us what is going on in your head while you're down there. Peace.

Funny enough I met an Australian guy the last time I was up there, he'd been coming up with his American friend since the 70s. I'd love to see you do a video up there, unfortunately (or fortunately tbh) it's kind of a hidden gem way up north in Minnesota so it's far away from where most fishing youtubers will find themselves, ha.

Corals are bleaching due to rise in temperature. 3 - 4 degrees Fahrenheit is all it takes to start the process.
But, scientists have found that some reefs that have bleached are already starting to bounce back with a better resistance to the increasing temperatures.
Hopefully that trend continues around the globe. Most people don't fully understand how important the coral reefs really are to the planet.
