    -Remember these deep discounts are on brand new 2022 models.
    -The best way to find these trailers is to just do a Google search looking for Hero Campers in RV lots.
    -Remember there are more than one version of the Hero Camper. Although the base model is a screaming deal. The higher models, may even be more of a steal. Keep a look out for models that include the Skybox, AC, diesel heat, etc.
    -In terms of pricing also remember RV lots tend to sell their trailers for lower than the asking price. So, if they are asking $17K, don't be shy to see if they will go lower. Many owners have picked their up within the last 4 months for $15K or lower.

      You have a good point. I wouldn't consider this a budget. I would consider this a higher tear trailer at a highly reduced price. You can still get a budget trailer for $6K from Hiker and $9K with the Road Toad. But to compare it to a budget model this is about the same price as a Bushwacker teardrop, but essentially double in quality, lifespan, and crafstmanship.

      Oops, I think I did a poor job describing this in a video. If you look in the description, the camper, I’m talking about is not coming from their website. These are the 2022 brand new models that you would pick up from the large RV dealership. They are between 15,000 and 17,000. And that’s before any wheeling and dealing.

    I have been waiting to see Hero Campers on this channel. As an European, it is good to see the Alko chassis and runnning gear in the USA. Both Alko and Knott are of exceptionally high quality and if anyone is wondering what happens to the brakes when you reverse, well, fear not. The brakes automatically do not engage when the wheel is turning in the opposite direction of travel. The handbrake (aka parking brake) works very well and I personally prefer the Knott over-centre system (Alko make one too, but rarely found on campers). Your trailer will not budge even on an incline. There is also no need to attach huge chains as the thin red wire you see near the coupler in the shots is designed to attach to the vehicle and in the event of the trailer becoming decoupled, the wire will pull the handbrake and apply the brakes before snapping from the vehicle - hence why it is thin.

    I just heard from Blue Compass RV and those of you in the community that the last 2022 Hero Camper has been sold. So glad to hear how many of you got this camper at an incredible price! Lonny, Hero's North American Sales Rep let me know that Hero Camper is now selling direct to consumer. The website is www.HeroCamperus.biz . Lonny said they are currently getting ready for 2024, so there are deals to be had on the last five 2023 models. These are fully loaded with diesel heat, inverter, 200ah lithium battery, fenderboxes and more ($12k in upgrades and accessories). The last 5 are discounted 20% and free delivery to the lower 48. I'll keep my ear to the ground for more deals. If you haven't heard Taxa trailers announced yesterday that select models in their inventory are now 40% off. To learn more about this, just contact Taxa. Lonny also wanted me to let you know, if you bought a 2022 model, there are accesories that you can add to it, just contact Hero Camper.

If you are still struggling to find it look up Blue Compass RV. I heard they have about 10 left in stock. When these are gone my assumption is that Hero Camper will step away from this business model and move more towards a traditional small camper marketing model. Well, I hope they will anyways. Thanks Drew, good stuff to think about as always. I agree with no exhaust fan being a issue. Strange to mention solar panel, charge controller and no mention of a battery type and it's amp hrs? Especially since that zero breeze works off of 24v dc if not using 120v ac. I'd say, bring a ground tent if needed, ditch the roof mounted tent, put 300 more watts of solar up there and add a 200 amp hr LiPo battery. But what do I know? I'm not only the spokesperson for teardroper's hair loss, but I'm also a client. Source, hair club for men quote from many yrs ago. Not often you get a screaming deal but this one qualifies. If there are any left and you’re on the fence, don’t wait. The 2023 models are $35-$40k. I can wholeheartedly agree that you have to have a Ruffin, my little Offroad 13 foot camper trailer RV came equipped with no windows in the doors. No windows in the walls front or back and only a AC unit that you couldn’t even run the fan on the AC unit without being plugged in the short power, and with several consecutive weeks here in Oregon, it over 100° I couldn’t stand to be in the trailer, I ended up removing the AC unit and having a fantastic fan installed in its place has a lot of people that have this particular brand of trailer have done. My reasoning is I’m never on grid and plugged in but you have to have airflow having opening windows in the doors were having an exhilarate windows in the side, walls of the trailer or the front or back of the trailer. Also, I feels mandatory something else in my trailer doesn’t have no opening windows. So I agree fat is necessary, especially in hotter climates

    Insightful market analysis, Drew! I hope they take another shot at the US market.
    The design aesthetic is a big plus (injection moulded bumper/light assembly), and the approach to quality is, too. The fan issue in the Midwest and South is real - they should address it, at least as an option. Finally, the beauty is obvious, but I think it could benefit from some defensive design in terms of dirt. Frankly, it *seems* a little too nice for many a dusty trail, and I wonder if some “mud room thinking” is in order.

      The rear 'jacks' aren't jacks. They are what we refer to in Europe as 'prop stands'. In Europe, they are typically found on commercial trailers to simply prevent the trailer from see-sawing backwards when loading it when it is not coupled up to a vehicle. There are versions of prop-stands that have a wind-down function available. As you say, the positioning is good and so long as you have the trailer level (side to side), it is easy to drop the prop stands and therefore stabilise the trailer. I personally think that Hero Campers would be better to use the standard heavy-duty corner steadies found on European caravans (camper trailers) as you can ensure a firm contact with the ground or to use the half-drop down half wind down prop stands. With the prop stands fitted, you may find that dropping the nose of the trailer a bit, before dropping the prop stands and then raising the jockey wheel at the front until the trailer is properly level front to rear will ensure a firmer and more stable contact at the rear also. A bit of a faff. Not an issue with a goods trailer, car transporter trailer, tipper trailer or livestock trailer, but prop stands aren't ideal for campers if you dislike any movement when inside.

      About the electronics at your head: I’m not a specialist on this but here’s my understanding: since the current is dc (direct current) it is not as dangerous for the human body to be next to it. Plugged into shore power, the alternating current is a biological problem for human bodies that did not evolve with it and our human bodies are only in the approx last 100 years having to learn to be around them as much as we indoor-humans are. You can research building biologists as a field, and Arthur Firstenburg who wrote _The Body Electric_, and the company SafeLiving Technologies, all as introductions to the field of EMF safety. Electric ac wires have a field you can measure that extends 4-6 feet from the wire and affects biology. It’s gotten worse as more electronics are plugged into peoples systems and the alternating current goes bonkers basically, to use a scientific term lol. So I think maybe that is what the original poster was mentioning about not wanting her head by that panel with electrics in it. Our local electric utility told us to not put our bed by an exterior wall where the electric wires came into the house. It had nothing to do with the heat or noise.

I bought a product from Camco that absorbs the humidity. Its worked well have to replace it every 3 mths. Scamps r nice but nobody wants to vacuum the walls. Some r allergic to wall to wall carpeting, its not a natural product. Airstream make rvs that are green. No drywall like a house or caustic materials inside them. Never need to paint the interior with wall to wall aluminum. Plus Airstream got rid of a wood subfloor. Who doesn't accidentally spill something or leave a vent open.

    Having looked at teardrops on and off over the last few years, I am really intrigued by this design. We started out with an Intech Persue since the options were pretty limited at covid times (a friend had it for sale). Being a family of 3, we wanted something slightly bigger with a growing boy and bought an Intech Luna this past summer. I also have a rooftop tent (been using that for 14 years) if I want more room for myself sometimes. I like the size and just a lot about the Hero in general plus it looks well built. I was also surprised that it weighted almost as much as my Luna. I figured it was going to be around 1400. I could not find the interior dimensions anywhere for the Hero either. I am '6"5 so it is quite important.

    I’d love to see more trailers in that desired weight range you were talking about. I think the issue is that the Scamp just isn’t built for the dirt road conditions that some of these smaller but heavier builds. Something in the 1,500# range would be great for my Jeep or similar. But for me I want a small trailer that can go almost anywhere my Jeep can go, at least in terms of ground clearance or going up a bumpy hill and know it’s not going to shake to pieces.

    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  Před 8 měsíci +3

      People will disagree with me here. But I have seen Scamps everwhere. And I have pulled them everywhere myself. Am I rock climbing, no. But the Scamp can get anywhere my Jeep could get based on the clearance. Especially if you flip the axles on the Scamp. And they come out in one piece year after year, decade, after decade. I have seen very few cracked frames. It happens, but rare. I get the overbuilding for true offroading. But forest roads and blm land, you don't need all that.

    surge break control. Hmm wondering how well those operate in mountain environments, if they are "always on" going down hill it could lead to breaks over heating and/or break fires.
    seat belt/cargo strap isn't a bad idea though knowing some campers, 1 or 2 straps won't do much... you'd want cargo netting. Now it might not look as pretty but having heavy mounting points for cargo netting so you could drop a net over the entire bed area and tie everything under it down might be neat.

      Good points here. Being from North America my knowledge on surge brakes is pretty limited. I know them from the boat industry a bit, but most of them aren't going over mountain passes. Haha. My assumption is that good versions wouldn't be activated by downhill motion. But, it does engage when the front end of the device pushes into the master cylinder. So you would think that weight and inertia alone would simulate the vehicle braking. Hmmm... Looking forward to someone from Europe responding to this thread. • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  Před 8 měsíci

      I noticed CampInn uses the same tank size. And CampInn gets it. I am assuming this is aimed at weekend warriors. Our family of four, uses water vary sparingly, about 8 to 10 gallons in 3 days. Meaning we don't use a sink and even our dishes are done with squirt bottles. But we are typically out much longer than this so we carry about 12-18 gallons at a time. And then fill it up while out and about. So I think 8 can get the job done if you are an extreme minimalist, which many teardrop owners are. But for the average camper this would surely require hauling additional water.

      Not necessarily true. Go look at the current 2023 prices. They’re right back up there again over $30,000. And as for your question. Some companies are taking advantage of the trend. I enjoyed the video but I have to laugh at the Bushwacker dig at the end... I paid $10k brand new for our bushwacker 10ss 2 years ago, it's since traveled well over 50,000 miles from Florida to Mexico (2x) to Newfoundland, to Alaska, and most recently up and down the Dempster Hwy to the Arctic Ocean at the very northern Tip of Canada. Yeah it's not anywhere near the build quality of this camper... but it's not meant to be, it's also 3-4x cheaper... and at the end of the day there's not much if anything this higher quality tear drop can do, that our Bushwacker can't... yes, we have to clean sawdust out of it every week (even after 50k miles), yes stuff breaks and I have to fix it (that's any camper... even a premium one like this)... but at 1/4th the price... we've used the savings to fund a hellovalot of great adventures in the BW...

    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Hope that didn’t offend you. That was not the intention with that dig. It was to help people understand that this trailer wasn’t manufactured by the large RV industry. Essentially, I wanted people to know that they were getting a quality crafted, high-end material, quality component trailer for the price of an entry-level small camper trailer made by the RV industry. If you’ve seen our video on the Bushwacker, we took a lot of heat for suggesting that people buy it. Like you, we believe in it, and believe it’s a great trailer for many of us. I tell people essentially all these trailers are just beds on wheels that all get us to the same destination. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with a Bushwacker, especially the miles.

      In my opinion, it’s hard to put a price on composite. One of these trailers is made with wood and seams, the other trailer is built with composite and very minimal seams. Seems separate and about the five-year mark and requires a little maintenance maybe every five or 10 years. And would, if water does make its way into the trailer can be a nightmare.
