  • "Howard's log, star date 052018. Taking the cavernous 2018 Peugeot 5008 on its maiden voyage. Light steering, voice control, massage seats, spacious and safe. It certainly deserves its reputation..."
    This seven-seat spaceship of an SUV has been winning plaudits left, right and centre. Stylistically similar to the smaller 3008 sibling, is additional size all it offers or is its futurism a sign of things to come?
    Competing with the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Howard Ritchie gets behind the wheel to see whether the 5008 offers him joie de vivre or whether it leaves him je ne sais pas.

    French always vowed to keep emissions and fuel consumption as low as possible. Thus smaller engines, weaker of course but effective. Been with Peugeot for two decades and no complaints. Good brand.

    Nice review, but why such a loud music in the background? Is it journalism or advertising, information or excitement? This trend seems widespread in car reviews and I find it completely unnecessary.

    isn't it cheaper to get a personal loan to buy a car and not lease / hire

    • @leasingdotcom
      @leasingdotcom  Před 6 lety +2

      No Dom, it's not. Certainly not for new cars. On a personal loan you will pay interest, and on a car that costs in excess of £26k like this 5008, that's going to be a hefty monthly payment of between £500-700 a month for at least five years. You could lease it for half the price. You will not own it, but that's not the point of leasing. It's more affordable usership v more expensive ownership. The choice is yours.

      @hivee3044 Před 4 lety

      @@leasingdotcom no leasing is not interesting in the long run. Unless you want to change car every 3 years... And even then leasing would be around 300€ a month, but that's permanently... And in the end you do not own the car. So it's interesting only if you change car every 2 3 years but it still is a waste of money because in the end you own nothing.

    • @jak493
      @jak493 Před 4 lety

      @@hivee3044 You will own a depreciating asset that you will have spent more on than its worth at the end. If you look at the leasing costs, you are basically paying the amount it depreciates each year so if you add the two options together, your thought that it is better to own actually doesn't necessarily come true (I have owned all my life but if it drops £5000 a year in value and you pay £500/m for the privilege, leasing for say £400/m is actually not as silly as it sounds).

    • @hivee3044
      @hivee3044 Před 4 lety

      @@jak493 expect a car lifespan is easily in the 20 years... By paying 400e a month you cover the cost of a car in between 5 to 10 years with leasing.. And in the end you still don't own it. Ofc, there are other advantages as you don't usually keep the same car forever in leasing since there is no point and get a new one every one or two year which is the only valid argument in favour of leasing. But yeah mathematically speaking leasing cost much more than buying the car, like I said unless you want a luxury car but for a Peugeot 5008 the leasing would be more expensive after 10 years when the car will easily last 20... So imagine if you own it through leasing for 20 years you would have paid the car twice its price (although, like I said leasing isn't exactly about buying a car) so, in that regard it's more expensive for people like me who prefer to own the car because I do not drive much and can easily keep and maintain the car in a good state over its whole lifespan. Now if you're an heavy driver, it might just be better to lease of course just like mostdelivery companies do nowadays

    • @jak493
      @jak493 Před 4 lety

      Alexandre Veillet. Hello the thing is nobody keeps a car for 10+years. If someone swaps their car every 2 or 3 years, the depreciation on ownership is more than the lease payments. The longer you keep a car, the less it makes sense to lease which is why the payments go down the longer the lease term. Buy a car for £30,000, sell it for £20,000 3 years later (if you are lucky!) so if your payments are around £275 a month then you aren’t any worse off. That’s my argument anyway🙂
