The Journey to the World’s Most Remote Teahouse

  • If you want to drink a cup of tea at the Huashan Teahouse on Mount Hua, you’re going to have to put in the effort to get there. The journey starts with a 20-minute cable car ride. Next comes a hike up steep, uneven terrain and across narrow paths where a misstep could be fatal. Despite the dangers, nearly a million people a year visit the Buddhist and Daoist temple and Huashan Teahouse that sit atop one of China’s highest peaks. ZhiHeng Yang, a supply porter on Mount Hua, shows us the way.

    I've hiked this. Recommend getting there as early as possible, hiking up, and taking the cable car down. By the time I was making my way down, there were 20 times more people coming up then there were when I headed up. Awesome place!!

      @FatIntellectual Před 5 lety +24

      You took the cable car? I attempted to completely finish the mountain on foot, from bottom to top and then top to bottom. Unfortunately, I only made it to the top on foot after 13 hours of just straight climbing throughout the night, 13 hours may seem a long time, but only half of what it takes. Did you climb the 1000 Steep stairs, one of the most famous features of Mt Hua?

    I hiked this during my sophomore year at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an and Hua Shan (Mount Hua) is in Weinan, very close to Xi'an.
    But i guess i love Taibai Shan (In Baoji) more because of it's more beautiful natural scenery. Don't get me wrong, Hua Shan is one of the most beautiful mountain and most difficult one too, specially if you want to hike it without using the Cable Car. It took us around 11+ hours of hiking up to the eastern peak from where you can see the heavenly sunrise and around 6+ hours of hiking down.
    A memory worth cherishing.
