    Viewer Question:
    Jim Gratton - Well DAMN! Don’t know if you saw it this morning but it looks like all the details are now out about what happened at the Oscars. So apparently the Academy did tell Smith to leave and he refused, so the Academy was looking to physically remove him and have him arrested but Chris Rock saved him because he didn’t want a bad situation to become worse. My respect for Rock has gone up a lot! What do you think of this timeline and should Smith now be banned from the Oscars forever?

    If you actually watch the interview with the producer, Chris Rock didn’t want to press charges and then he left the Oscar’s. But then Will Smith was going to get removed right before the best actor award and the producer stopped it because he thought Chris Rock wouldn’t want that. The media is making it seem that Chris Rock stopped Will Smith from being removed from the Oscar’s.

    I agree with John, given the information, and that Smith chose to stay, and I believe knowingly refused to leave as it would cause more drama, I would expel him from the academy. Back to Johns story, It's grandma's 90 birthday and the only way to get him to leave is to have the police drag him away ruining grandmas birthday. F that. Smith weaponized his fame and took the party hostage. I think the academy will do 5-10 years. Enough to show precedence, but not too little to make it worth someone else doing. From what John said the Academy said to Rock and how Rock answered, they were fully ready to have Smith expelled and arrested that night. And oddly if he was they could have gone leniently on him as he was already "punished". But as things are, he has gotten off Scott free, and they can't allow that. In some ways it would have been better for him to be escorted out and arrested for the academy as then they wouldn't have to respond as harshly.

    His resignation just means he can’t vote for future award considerations. The Academy still needs to decide if they want to ban him from future award shows and from being nominated for future movies. It’s like he just turned in a gym membership card.

  • @scottrae4450
    @scottrae4450 Před 2 lety +2

    At first I thought 6 months to year. Now hearing the actual timeline I think more of 1-3 years suspended. The real problem that I see is that the academy has sat on their hands in previous issues. If they haven’t lowered the boom on Weinstein, Polanski, and others than you can only go so far with this situation. Taking a person’s Oscar award away from them should be a punishment they should invoke. They need to start with those two and move forward.

  • @TroyHillTalks
    @TroyHillTalks Před 2 lety +1

    If he resigned, why is the academy continuing to investigate. Makes me wonder if taking the Oscar is still in play? I mean for example if I was voted employee of the year from leadership at my job and I slapped the hell out of someone minutes before at the award ceremony I don’t think I’m still getting the award. Lol. I just wonder if there is still more to this that we don’t know. The refusing to leave to me is damning and I totally agree that he held that show hostage. Originally I thought this was all the crap that Jada has put him through, but I’m starting to wonder if this is the two birds flocking together?

    Will's a person who could have eventually had the coveted EGOT. He's active and talented in so many aspects of entertainment. He tarnished his own talent and hard work. It would be very hard for the Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, Grammys to reward him again, especially in today's climate. This kind of disrespect towards colleagues and peers is unacceptable, no matter how much money or talent one possesses.

At this point, I'll personally be surprised if they don't suspend him for at least 4-5 years after hearing that he refused to leave and will not be surprised if they expel him permanently.

    He still needs to man up and actually apologise to Chris Rock in person but apart from that I just hope the Academy don't view his resignation as a reason not to still go ahead with their own form of sanction, a lengthy ban should be handed down but I think a permanent explusion is going too far considering the far worse offenses some other members of the Academy have against their name and yet still remain members.
