Ke Huy Quan and Brendan Fraser wining is the best moment of the night for sure and I guarantee they made Harrison Ford announce the best picture because they wanted that hug moment
Stephanie Hsu not winning felt disrespectful. Jamie was barely in the movie and did nothing to deserve being nominated. For jamie to compete with and beat Stephanie is wild.
Insanely wild bruh
Greig Fraser was SNUBBED. He should have at least been nominated for best cinematography for The Batman.
They really snubbed Batman for make up
Even Roger Deakins agrees with us, and he was one of the nominees.
Umm this is Angela Bassett 2nd Oscar nomination. She should have won back in 1994
I think this year's Oscar's did a good job of getting rid of the "stink" of last year's Oscars if not completely washing away the Will Smith slap. Best moment was when Harrison Ford meeting up with Ke on stage and about to hand him the Oscar. Pure joy!
I agree with the legendary Roger Deakins that The Batman was snubbed for Best Cinematography.
Absolutely, but then again, Greig Fraser now has an Oscar and Roger Deakins’ stamp of approval.
Also top gun maverick
I still remember Ke Huy Quan from Goonies and Temple of Doom too. Congrats to him on his winning achievement!
I like Jamie Lee Curtis but I don't think she should have won over Angela Bassett or even have been nominated over Stephanie Hsu
Stephanie Hsu was also nominated
I'm not upset, Jamie was good in the movie, but Stephanie Hsu should have won it in my opinion.
Are you just saying that because she’s black?
@@701delbronx8???
No way you watched everything all at once, and thought Jamie Lee performance was better then Angela Bassett in wakanda forever. SMH 😒
EEAAO winning best picture was a game changer. Been a while since an action movie won best picture since Return of the King. Plus it's rare that a best picture winner came out really early in that year. I felt like EEAAO had a higher chance of winning if it came out during the fall season but the Oscars didn't screw up that best picture win.
I'm shocked The Banshees of Inisherin didn't win a single thing. At first I thought that movie was gonna win best picture until I thought about it and wanted EEAAO to win best picture.
@@Bingo_the_Pug Yeah it was. The only reason why I had doubts of that winning is because of the release date. The Oscars hardly recognize movies that came out earlier that year. But I'm glad it won. I still think Banshess should have won something.
All of the actors in Everything Everywhere All At Once were deserving, having to play so many characters in one film. It must have been fun for them to just go crazy with different personalities.
I mean I think the reason people are talking about Angela’s reaction over other people’s is because she was really the only one who was visibly upset about it. Not even just initially either when the camera turned to a wide shot she was like the only one who wasn’t clapping lol.
Kerry Condin was visibly upset as well, yet no one is talking about her.
@@vaxis2113 Probably because she does end up clapping.
@@vaxis2113 Eh I watched that and she looked no where near as upset as Angela did. Kerry looked slightly annoyed at first but ended up smiling and clapping. I think she may not have even been annoyed she could have just been surprised that Jamie won since everyone thought Angela would.
@@derekwright9398 you got the image from the wide shot let me see your proof cuz nobody was looking that hard
@@cjspyker It’s not that hard to see she was literally in the front row 💀
Hsu deserved it over Curtis. Everyone whom I spoken with about the movie said Hsu’s parking lot scene brought them to tears. Meanwhile, Curtis character was basically comic relief.
To be fair I think the parking lot scene was more on Yeoh than Hsu. She was awesome though but I think that was Yeoh's scene
That parking lot scene😭😭😭
@@jaynguin That’s besides the point. Regardless of who you believe contributed more in that scene Hus’s acting in that scene and in general was better than Curtis. What stood out to you about Curtis performance that warranted her winning over Hsu?
@@mcharlton67 I'm not saying JLC should've won. I was just saying that the parking lot scene was more Yeoh's scene than Hsu's. I would've gone for Hsu myself just didn't feel that one isn't the scene I'd use
The batman had both better cinematography and score than All quiet on the western front, yet the fact that it wasn't even nominated for it is just sad. A lot of people are saying maybe because Greig Fraser won an oscar just last year, they wanted to keep it diverse? Well Emmanuel Lubezski won for 3 times in a row (and deservedly so) so that point is kinda invalid. Also banshees not winning a single award was very sad to see.
All Quiet had a good score and fantastic cinematography, but Batman should’ve won cinematography and Babylon should’ve won score
John this is coming from an Indian
you shouldn't be afraid to say that you didn't like RRR... It is completely understandable... It is coming from a very different ethnicity and it is a film made to please that ethnicity... The others may like it or may not like it... It is just that the filmmaking crew who worked on it is phenomenal from the director to the actors and stunt workers... They deserve the acclaim
Happy to see All Quiet On The Western Front winning 4 Oscars and Netflix still winning on the Oscar trophies.
The Batman not being nominated for cinematography was a massive snub
Absolutely. The cinematography in that film was pure art to me.
Still don’t understand why Stephanie Hsu was shut out for most of this awards season. She’s probably the only actress I wouldn’t have disagreed with winning over Angela Bassett. For best animated feature I would of gone with MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON but Guillermo del Toro’s PINOCCHIO winning I had no problem with since I enjoyed that too and loved Guillermo’s speech about animation.
Why do you think Angela basset deserves a nomination she wasn’t outstanding or anything.
@@vintageoriginallegit Ummm what??? 🤔 She was fantastic is BP2 hence why she was nominated. And she should have won imo.
I thought Stephanie Hsu had the weakest acting from all the actors in EEAAO. And Angela Bassett apart from from from that one scene was okay in BP2. My personal pick would've been Kerry Condon. She had the most subtle and heartfelt performance among all of them.
Hot take: Jamie Lee Curtis gave a better performance in True Lies than in EEAAO.
It was funny that Angela and Austin were put next to each other and ended up having to console each other.
I absolutely love Jamie Lee Curtis. But she wasn't even the Best Supporting Actress in her own movie.🤣🤣
Agreed
Jamie Lee Curtis is a legend, but you don't vote for the name you for the best actor. My jaw dropped when Angela Bassett didn't win.
Only tuned in to see Naatu Naatu live performance
Agree with Jonathan re. sound. It SHOULD have been 'The Batman'.
Jamie Lee Curtis did not deserve to win Best Supporting Actress, I’m sorry but she didn’t. She’s a great actress, one of the best of her generation but you can’t convince me that she was a better supporting actress in EEAAO than Stephanie Hsu was. Not to mention that Angela Bassett put on a more an impactful performance and was for my money delivered the best performance in that category.
To John’s logic and definition, it’s a snub.
@@thejones1802 according to him and millions of others. And people are allowed to have an opinion numbnuts
@@thejones1802 my opinion doesn’t matter as much as John does or anyone else’s. The decision has been made, the poor decision in my opinion.
Angela's reaction was a bit more than that split second. She was the only person not clapping as Jamie Lee Curtis walked off stage. Not saying she should have clapped, I totally get why she didn't, but it wasn't just a split second reaction. She was pissed lol.
Yeah, a human emotion.
@@bugeye177 for sure.
@@philldr8 definitely. forgot to mention that, thanks. Completely understandable, but John was makin it seem like she just didn’t have enough time to react in any other manner. Everything that followed that split second let’s us know she knew exactly how she felt and didn’t care to act otherwise.
And she deserved to stay seated because out of the five women nominated JLC was the weakest performance
@@SecretaryOfShade I feel you on that one. I thought she was great in EEAAO, but Angela or Stephanie should have won in my book.
Jamie Lee Curtis basically got a lifetime achievement award disguised as an Oscar, nothing against her but it should have went to Bassett.
That's nothing new for the Oscars, so it might've influenced the decisions. However, some people forget that a lot of people really liked JLC's performance in EEAAO and hoped that she would win. I definitely wouldn't call it a snub
Just remember that Al Pachino won his first and still only Oscar for ascent of a Women, which is definitely not one of his best works.
The real winner at the Oscars? A24.
Well said👍🏼 and am happy! It shows that u will get rewarded supporting indie unconventional movies.
Michelle Yoeh's "Past your prime" comment was a dig at Don Lemon's idiotic comment he got in lots of trouble for recently.
It happens to all humans. Athletes, artists all go downhill.
@@manucr9183 But how many men over 60 are still playing leads in Hollywood when women are discarded once they turned 40?
Naatu naatu was great interpretive dance number. They planned the chereography and there energy was fabulous.
yeah something fresh at the Oscars was a really good step
If you think 14:33 Turning Red is better than Puss in Boots: The Last Wish… YOURE CRAZY!!!!!😂😂😂😂💀💀💀
A24 was a big winner for winning all major categories, a first for a (major) studio.
8:00 RRR Naatu Naatu Oscars
Personally feel like the Oscars have chosen the right movie for Best Picture the past few years …like post-Crash and w/the exception of Green Book💀 unless someone thinks I’m wrong.
A big win for the Asian community!
Exciting night, though I was shocked Bassett didn't take it, still it was a return to form for the ceremony.
Natu Natu was incredible. I still need to see All Quiet on the Western Front.
Also shout out to Ruth E Carter who constumed Wakanda Forever, with her win, she is the first black actress to have more than one oscar, pretty iconic.
Angela Bassett definitely should have won instead of JLC.
I personally ranked JLC #5 in overall performances. My first pick was Angela Bassett with Stephanie Hsu as my second pick.
A24 seems to be the studio dropping bangers right now!
A24 has been dropping banger after banger after banger!
true
I loved RRR! Totally wacky and over the top movie. So enjoyable!
If Bassett was THAT confident she was going to win despite having 4 other completely worthy competitors then I'm glad she lost. It's one thing to be disappointed but she looked mad about it. Not cool. At all.
"outrageously original yet heartwarmingly familiar"- John Campea has the best description of EEAO I've heard yet
Everything Everywhere Al at once is probably my favorite movie of all time, Angela Bassett was phenomenal in black panther but I just genuinely believe the better character won. But honestly neither Jamie or Angela’s performance was Better then Stephanie Hsu’s, that performance was lightning in a bottle
About the in memoriam, I did think it was really strange that Charlbi Dean was missing when she was the lead in one of the nominees for best picture
I was happy Brendan Fraser won!!!
So Happy for everything everywhere all at once
you cant make everyone happy all the time, sometimes people are just miserable they can't take accountability for their own misery.
I often like when my favourite actor or actress actually wins the Oscar, but when Brendan won his Oscar I felt so so happy. I hadn't felt that happy since Heath Ledger won his postume Oscar for The Dark Knight
HSU and Angela should have won over JC..
EEAAO & The Daniels made a better multiverse film with only 5% of the budget of Marvel. Marvel will never win an above-the-line Oscar. It's a machine and won't be honored like that. Just the truth.
John mentioned that he don't like songs, especially those that are played during the end credits, given time during the awards. How about Annie Lennox singing her song from 'The Lord Of The Rings' at the 2004 Oscars? 'Into The West'
Lotr is still the king of the Oscars
who asked
Jamie Lee Curtis simply was given her lifetime achievement award, not unlike people like Peter O'Toole, Alan Arkin, and Jeff Bridges.
Hey John, What were your picks for the categories? I missed it in the video.
Natu Natu made us proud
Loved RRR and the music was so good!!
James Cameron wasnt nominated. That's a pretty big snub if you ask me
glad no one asked you...zing
The Batman got snubbed. I’m fine without the wins but the lack of nominations in certain categories is a bit ridiculous
THIS👆🏿👆🏿👆🏿
I agree Paul Dano should have been nominated for best actor in a supporting role.

I can understand why people wanted Bassett to win. That said, when I think about how often I thought of these performances after seeing these movies, I can't help but feel that Curtis had the more memorable offering. I have OFTEN come back to the choices Curtis made and been filled with joy recalling her performance.
I'd say there was maybe still just a little drama going into best picture because La La Land had as many oscars won at that point in the show too but didn't win. But yeah, I think it was pretty obvious it had it in the bag
Yeah I agree. Part of the reason why that happens is because the Academy uses preferential balloting when it comes to Best Picture, with the other categories being determined by who got the most votes.
Batman was snubbed for cinematography and hair and makeup
I love Jamie lee Curtis but yea I don’t think her performance in EEAAO was Oscar worthy.
Yeah, I like her but was surprised she got nominated.
Paul Sorvino, Tom Sizemore & Anne Heche we’re snubbed in the In Memoriam section
Paul Sorvino definitely. The rest meh.
I just saw that the sponsor of this video, Mint Mobile was sold by Ryan Renolds to T-Mobile for over 1 Billion dollars! Do you think it will stay affordable now that it's part of T-Mobile?
I was really surprised about Women Talking winning. A movie I thought I'd be bored with, and I understand a lot of people would be bored with because it's just a bunch of women talking about Fighting, Staying, or Going. But that script kept me invested in the characters and the plot.
Ke Huy Quan was pretty much universally loved. I heard his name and I started tearing up even before he said a word in his acceptance speech.
Jamie Lee Curtis winning was flat out bizarre, the one award I somewhat disagreed with, despite still being on a high from seeing Ke Huy Quan win.
Not even a mention of All Quiet on the Western Front , 4 awards, not too shabby.
He never watch it
@@itsbeyondme5560 neither did I, but I can still acknowledge it did pretty well at the Oscars
@@belgarath1482 good technical anti war remake. I wish it should nominated in the acting category. Good job Germany
I agree that this was a very standard and pretty good oscars, obviously a big improvement from last year, and I think it's what the oscars needed. It focused on the movies, not a whole lot of comedy bits, although one or two here and there were petty flat. (the Nicole Kidman AMC joke was my favorite). Kimmel did an ok job. He didn't do a whole lot which is a good thing, just kept the attention on the movies. I was personally pretty happy with everyone who won, though I wish Banshees and Tar could've picked up something. Overall, they still need to improve a lot of stuff about their show, and I could go on with nitpicks, but this is certainly a good step forward.
The best moment for me was Hugh Grant 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i was dying laughing
Glad kris is still hanging out on the show!! Everything Everywhere deserved all they won.
I'm going to rewatch Encino Man now.
Jamie Lee Curtis should not have won supporting actress. She basically only won because of her name/legacy. Her costar had a more meaningful role and was more crucial to the movie.
They do it all the time nothing new here
Jamie Lee Curtis finally winning is equivalent to rapper Nas finally winning a Grammy in 2021…it should have happened years ago.
Definitely should not have happen last night that’s for sure.
Im such an idiot. Some how my brain short circuited and fused Nas and finally and thought you said Nelly deserved a grammy, im like what???? Are you insane lol 😆
They are never going to shorten this show.
Kerry Condon was endearing and gave a strong and much needed anchoring female presence in Banshees. Stephanie Hsu gave a multifaceted performance in EEAAO. Hong Chau delivered TWO great performances this year in both The Menu and The Whale. All of these women lost to a highly shellacked cameo that gave more SNL than Oscar. GET 👏🏾 OUT 👏🏾 OF 👏🏾 MY 👏🏾 FACE!
Only two fuck ups were score and supporting actress. Babylon losing score is as bad as Crash beating Brokeback Mountain. They also just need somebody that is ACTUALLY funny to do these shows. Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais will always be the best.
@@thejones1802 Because Curtis wasn’t even the best performance in that film it was Stephanie Hsu and even though the All Quiet score is great Babylon had one of the best scores in a long time. It’s a masterpiece regarding that.
And of course you think Chris Rock sucks he speaks facts and doesn’t take the bullshit
I don’t care much about the Oscars and one of the reasons that is is because sometimes, I just cannot respect what they choose and what they snub. This year, it was Belle and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 not being in the animated category. Both easily could have replaced Turning Red. Then The Batman. I feel Batman should’ve gotten a nomination in score and cinematography at least.
The Batman wasn’t even nominated because it’s score wasn’t original enough.
Turning red deserved the nomination, I agree with you on Batman
@@bryanpowell2388 oof L take man sorry to say
@@bryanpowell2388 severely disagree but I respect your opinion 👍
@@bryanpowell2388 Turning Red isn't the first animated movie I'd knock out of that list either, I thought it was great.
Stephanie Hsu should have won
My two cents, Angela Bassett's nomination itself was totally unwarranted. Black Panther 2 is fine for a summer popcorn movie, it's nothing close to the first film. And Basset gives like one good monologue but it was hardly an Oscar-worthy performance, not by a longshot if you ask me.
It felt like a politics thing, because of Boseman's death and Black Panther's cultural significance.
The award is for best performance. She didn't give one of the most noteworthy performances of the year... by a fucking mile.
It was a handout, let’s be honest. If Wakanda Forever was another MCU film, without the forced racial movement it went out of its way to create, and had the exact same story, acting, and quality, it wouldn’t even be considered.
@@alexman378 I don't necessarily agree that the racial movement of the first film was "forced", I think it was a pretty powerful new kind of superhero film that celebrated a culture that we don't see often in the genre. I recognize its cultural significance... but the award is about film quality, and I agree that the cultural impact and popularity of the film has more to do with it. I felt the same way last time, Infinity War is a way better superhero film than Black Panther, in my opinion.
Wakanda Forever was such a step down from the first that its nomination this year just seems extra stupid to me.
Just my opinion.
@@chrisb5243 I would disagree. The most apt comparison I can think of is Anthony Hopkins winning for Silence of the Lambs, despite only being in two or three scenes.
But his epic monologues and conversations with Clarice were absolutely mesmerizing, plus they were long and very drawn out so it felt like a lot of screentime. It's one of the best performances in cinematic history which is why it leaves an indelible mark despite being brief.
Angela Bassett in Black Panther is just... not that. Not by a longshot.
😂
So where is JLC's Oscar-worthy moment in EEAAO? Was it the hotdog fingers? She wasn't even the best supporting actress in her own movie. Hsu should've won as she had the better performance.
We getting that mummy 4 w Branden n with ke huy now lol
That would be awesome
The Batman not even being nominated was the biggest snub tbh. The rest are okay.
'not even being motivated'?
Well I want Austin butler to win the Oscar but Brendan he a legend, ke qua wan was so happy he hug Harrison ford he also saw ke when he won the Oscar and Steven Spielberg was emotional
absolute bull. Babylon not winning best score was just an absolute joke
Angela Bassett shoulda won
I thought it was funny how Kimmel said that if the winners too too long in their speech they would get danced out instead of the band playing them out.
Shame Angela Bassett didn’t win but Cocaine bear making an appearance was my highlight of the night
was anyone getting slapped in the face last night?
They forgot the one and only batman, kevin Conroy, on the memoriam
Omg I was SOOOOO mad when he wasn't in the memoriam, I didn't see Douglas Trumbull either
He's tv not movies.
@@mikepratt6481 Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Honestly, I don't even think JLC was the best supporting actress in her own movie. And I love me some JLC. But Stephanie Hsu should've won it over her.
The Oscar's has become about narratives and politics. The BAFTA Awards are the new Oscar's for me. They award the best and they are not afraid to give young talent an Award.
Hsu I think was probably better but I'm okay with Jamie getting the win. Angela- tbh I didn't feel like she was doing a lot in BP2 so I'm not torn up at all about her not getting the win.
I watched both movies and I thought Jamie Lee's win was well-deserved.
@@kartinisricitrasutiarno6062 I'm not mad at it, I'd have preferred a Hsu win. But like I said I'm okay with JLC getting it too :)
Michelle won because she played a mother and wife who is real, faults and all. I have meant and seen Mother’s and people like that character. She was able to convey a variety of emotions in which we all feel. Mostly the feeling of being unable to communicate and to share true feelings for another. Kate did a good job but perhaps her character wasn’t real enough and concrete enough for the voters.
I felt Banshees of Inisherin not winning Best Original Screenplay was a significant snub. Everything Everywhere was the least deserving in that category, except maybe for Triangle of Sadness. I understand Banshees not winning any of the other categories. I thought it deserved Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, but I don’t think those loses count as snubs.
Though Hildur Gudnadottir not being nominated at ALL is absurd. While I admit her scores this year were not at the same calibre as her scores from previous years, they were still MUCH better than Fabelmans, Everything Everywhere and the shitstain of a “score” that was attached to Babylon.
The only award I think Everything Everywhere deserved above the others was Best Editing. Film was a masterclass in editing.
Watch the Daniels discussed EEAAO script with the WGA Liberians in the YT video. The complexity of their script is mind-boggling.
They had to write for 7 universes and keep each character in each universe straight. Daniel Kwan had to draw diagrams after diagrams to keep track of all the characters and universes.
They had to deal with 3 different languages: Gong Gong spoke Cantonese. Waymond spoke Mandarin. Joy spoke mostly English with a bit accented Mandarin. Evelyn spoke all 3 and constantly spoke Chinglish, a mix of Chinese Mandarin and English in one sentence as many immigrants do. The Daniels wrote it in English and then had it translated into 2 languages. Ke Huy Kuan's wife Echo could speak all 3 so she helped a lot. The script has English dialogs on the right and either Chinese or Cantonese on the left.
People can borrow scripts to read from the WGA library. The librarians said EEAAO's script was the most in demand this past year.
The Daniels deserved their Original Script. Theirs was the most complex and original.
John, You're not serious when you place Turning Red above Puss in Boots. You can't be.
You know why you teared up John.......because Goonies never die baby!!!!
Hey art is totally subjective, but I’m cringing a little with John putting Fablemans over EEAO. Again, to each their own, I just found Everything Everywhere to be such an inventive and emotional rollercoaster and I feel like Fablemans was good but it felt a little too much like an “Oscar” movie to me. But that’s just me
It’s just a different palette. A different tone. They represent two separate eras in filmmaking. And EEAAO winning represented a shift in cultural power from the older generation to the new. Fablemans is pure classical filmmaking, from the “Greatest Generation”.
and EEAO felt like Millennials putting their flag in the ground and saying, this is what we are, these are our priorities, this is our story, this is the new zeitgeist.
Same here.
Everyone goes on about Jamie Lee and Angela Bassett, but Kerry Condon was by far the best performance in that category
I loved her in that movie, I’m a big better call Saul fan and had no idea she was Irish.
I wouldn't call Bassett a "snub", but I don't think Disney/Marvel stepped up for her as awards season progressed. She definitely went without the campaign that Everything Everywhere got. People stopped talking about Wakanda Forever a few days after it dropped on Disney Plus
I’m hoping someday an animation movie wins best picture. Same thing with a comic book movie.
Comic book could win the Oscar, but animation still own category.
After Beauty and the Beast was nominated they changed the rules so I don't see that happening.
@@fillah4910 I know that animation has it’s category but they can still get nominated for best picture it happened with Up & Toy Story 3.
@@FreddyKrueger744 oh my bad, i didin't know that, then it have a chance, maybe if the animation try to make more adult like attack on Titan, because attack on Titan clearly not for a kids.
It’d also be nice to see a documentary at least get a best picture nomination.
I know Blanchett can win anytime…..that performance though
I didn't prefer Angela or Jamie honestly. I would've been happy with either of them. I'm glad Jamie got her moment and I hope Angela gets hers as well.
AB had an odd reaction to her loss, i mean three other actresses for BSA didn't win and didn't act mopey. She won Golden Globe for Black Panther and has various awards over her career. She has time left to be nominated again, i mean really.
Doubt AB ever gets this close again. This felt like her last shot to win one after being snubbed as Tina Turner. She's doing TV work now, so I'm not sure she'll ever get another movie role that will put her in position to win one.
Her pouting was pathetic.
