FAQs:
- Did I start alone? Yes. But the trail is super easy to make friends on, so relax and trust that along the 2650 miles of dirt, you’ll meet at least one person you might want to hike with.
- Music? I source it from MusicBed & Epidemic Sound - I also have a playlist! spoti.fi/3akkMDP
- How much money did you spend on the trail? Around $1000 USD a month.
- Your Hiking and Filming Gear? A video is coming, for now - check out my webpage (as above)
- Favourite Foods? A video is also coming, but for now just trust that peanut butter was a staple.
- How I edit? Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects
- How did I charge my gear? I would charge it using a power bank or every 3-7 days in towns.
- One piece of advice: Do your research, but understand that you’ll never feel truly prepared. Get your gear sorted, try talking to someone who has done the trail, don’t be disheartened by fear-mongering. Always make decisions based on your own experience. And just enjoy one of the wildest rides of your life!

"How is Irish Exit so adorable? Like in a sexy way. Not a cute-boy way."
-Question Submitted by: Irish Exit
Thats such an irish thing to do! Just goes to show ya how strange cold soakers are. I am curious though about how that town guy tip tap hiked with kept his hair so flawless.
@@paulborash I heard he used butt chafe balm in his hair.

I’d love to see NZ hiking videos! The little snippets that you included look amazing. It would also be content that would separate you out from the regular vlogger.
Tc Gregory my channel has some tramping videos if you are interested but I am no professional like Elina but take a look if you like.

Wow! Congratulations Elina! What an amazing adventure and accomplishment!
your speaking pace is so soothing =)
Thanks for que Q&A
So enjoyed this 👉🏻🙂🏕❤️👈🏻 !
Your laid back and clearly real, honest take on what's involved with the PCT as well as travelling abroad has been really inspirational to me and no doubt many others. I've really enjoyed watching your journey and I want to thank you for taking the time to share your awesome life experiences with the rest of us. Never stop being you. You're a Legend! Cheers from Australia 🍻
Best video/documentary out there. Thank you!!
Not tired of your face! I love your videos and can't wait to see more, and a gear list! I don't know how I stumbled across hiking videos but your video and another woman's video on the AT have inspired me to attempt a thru hike. I've always loved taking day trips to go hiking in cool spots. Somehow, it never crossed my mind that you can hike for more than one day. A 5 month thru hike for my husband and I is not an option right now but we have talked about doing a section hike of the AT that runs through our current state of North Carolina.
Your PCT documentary was so intimate I feel like I know you. Just a sign of a good photographer. Love your work! Lucky you got that hiking before all this lockdown stuff.
What an amazing lady you are. You inspired me with every episode. I just kept thinking how could you always be smiling, but then I realized you were experiencing pure joy!!! Thank you for sharing this ❤️
You're PCT videos inspired me to hike again. Thank you
The fact that you made a Q&A into a beautiful montage of clips from this amazing experience just speaks volumes to how amazing your video skills are
So good to hear an update after watching all your PCT series!
My mum is from NZ (we live in Australia) but we visit every ew years and always head out for day hikes, its so beautiful.
would love to know the backstory of your parents and the cult!!!
Elina ,, Nice to see you once again .... Great to hear that your experience on the PCT was positive ,, from what I had seen ,your involvement with your tramily was a boost for many others as well.... your style of video production was first class and it was a joy to be able to follow your trek adventure.... Always Stay Safe and God Bless.....
really, really nice heart-felt, honest, talk of the trail life. thanks!
I enjoyed all of your videos. 😎 great photography. Great writing. It looked like such a fun experience. Hopefully I can do the PCT one day. Have a great week!
From a fellow kiwi to another thank you for sharing!! Your videos are so inspiring to watch during this strange time! I'd love to see a video on the gear you used for the PCT and how you found it/any tips you have!!
Great video! I do think you would enjoy the AT with your love for people. The AT support is amazing. Well wishes with whatever you choose. Stay safe!!
I've subbed to a few hiking/backpacking/camping channels. You def have one of the better ones. Thank you for your effort! Looking forward to your next vid, whatever it may be of.
Hi Elina,
I just spent the last three days watching your videos of your PCT trip. Wow, what an incredible journey. Your videos are incredible and were super inspiring to watch. Thank you for bringing us along and allowing us to see the real sides of what looks like an absolutely life changing trip. Looking forward to CZcams tripping with you again! Hope you are well. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you omg no one talks about periods on a multi-day hike!!!!!
Absolutely wonderful stuff! Music choices are on point. As for a video suggestion, I'd like to see more about your meals. They were more unique than I'm familiar with.
Love your videos, keep coming back watching them
Thanks. What made your videos interesting and different were the aspects of tramily/tribe shared.
I’m watching from Oregon, where wildfires are currently ripping through our beautiful forests. Yet here I am in my bed, wearing my puffy to stay warm, gear packed up in a go-bag, watching your videos. In this time of uncertainty and instability, the Maori philosophy of He Tangata is giving me new hope. Thank you for sharing your story in such a heartfelt honest way.
Love from Portland. Stay safe.
Thanks again for sharing your journey.
Although we cannot leave the house in these corona days, you make us live all the beauties, you take us to nature, I am happy watching you, thank you🙏
Oh man, I want to go hike in New Zealand now. It looks beautiful! I hiked the PCT in 2018 and 2019. I did SO MUCH planning for my 2018 hike only to find less than a week into the trail, most of my plan went out the window. I didn't bother planning too much of my 2019 hike. What a fun, wild adventure both of those hikes were. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Love your videos!!
Loveeee the New Zealand footage. We are still hoping to maybe make it down there in Sept. Fingers crossed. My husband has always wanted to hike the PCT and it was your videos that inspired me to join him :)
Loved your PCT series. Feeling the pushed back to 2021 pain... ugh. Keep up the good work. Happy trails. Oh! Wife is also half Japanese (and vegetarian). Trail recipe suggestions?? The bit about your food sounded awesome!
You're awesome. keep doing you!
I found your video's as we share the same surname so i was curious who you were. I loved watching all your video's and couldn't wait for the next one to be released each week.
Take care Elina and thank you.
Touched in so many ways by your PCT video. One is that when I was about your age, living in Nowhere, USA, and had just out of military service, I did the reverse and spent 12 weeks in NZ, going from top to bottom and staying mostly at (awesome) hostels. The experience including meeting lots of fun people (many Aussies and Canadians who were also traveling) was what I needed.
Oh man just found you. What an AWESOME thing you did.Being a runner as well I think you being able to understand how to pace yourself probably helped alot.Congrats.I am so jealous
I really enjoy your videos and I was so excited to watch this one. I loved every hiking chapter video you made. I felt so connected to them and I can't wait to go on the PCT one day.
same here, PCT will change my life but Im excited to suffer through it
Incredible I just watched your videos start to finish in one go! Thanks to youtube for putting you on my homepage! Don't know where to start but first you being a female filmmaker is the first thing that blows my mind. I loved your cinematics and storytelling and I hope this inspires many more female creators (outside of fashion ) so thank you for that. Also well done to you for committing to the whole process, actually going, filming the whole way, journaling, editing and finally having the bravery to share it all! Much love and looking forward to seeing more content from you. I also wanted to say your choice and timing of music was incredible! Literally better than watching Netflix!
the VIBES in this video, love it
Glad to see Tip Tap back on the tube 😛
NZ is such a lovely place to hike. Plenty more please! 15 yrs ago I did Routeburn , Greenfield (or maybe the Green valley - it turned Routeburn into a circuit I think), One at the top end of the South Island, Tongariro Crossing Circuit and several others that memory won't drag back. Your PCT was great, really enjoyed it. Wonderful Channel.
Color grading looks awesome! Enjoyed the Q&A 😃
i love that!!!!!!!! the hiking trip & traveling afterwards. i want that
Great job filming. Your videos are nice and clear. I was fortunate to travel the whole world. Thing is once you start the itch to see what just might be over the next hill never goes away. And I hope that it never does.
4:27 Wow! Didn't realize that you'd been to Chautauqua... That's been my go to hike after work or for weekends, that's awesome!
Wow! I clicked to watch your PCT thru-hike but became mesmerized by your ability as a filmmaker, editor, storyteller, and subject. I’m a new subscriber because I don’t want to miss anything that you create, but also because I think I can learn a lot from you. As far as suggestions, please don’t neglect NZ. There’s so much material in your backyard to which you may have become habituated, perhaps to the point of apathy. Part of the reason we love to travel is because we come at new experiences with eyes wide open. My experience has been that when we borrow from the experiences of others we too may see again as though for the first time. Empathy is a superpower! 😊
What an amazing journey thanks for sharing
This was awesome, every video was awesome!
Havent watched yet but I am here because Darwin and Hiking Thru Podcast both featured you this week. Very excited to view your content!
Great work Elina.
Loved watching your videos and hiking the PCT is amazing. I hope to hike the AT next year in 2021... hope to meet you one day
Elina Osborne I really loved watching your journey on the PCT. It was so fun. It would be Wonderful to see some hikes in New Zealand! I hear it's a very beautiful country! I'm from San Diego California USA.
Ii loved the setting sun and how you used the light of your computer.
Theres a lot of backpacking CZcams creators out there but I was really drawn to your channel because 1) you didn't seem pretentious and 2) you could really tell a story. Thanks for bringing us a long and I hope to see more backpacking videos down the line.
Would love to see some hiking videos of NZ!
how cool? VERY COOL! great super sweet vid! tx for sharing!
Thanks for the great vid, glad to see you well! I am staying tuned for parent cult content.
Wow ! That was amazing 😀 Can’t wait time see what’s next. I’d love to hear more about food differences between cultures that you’ve experienced. Loved that short bit on coffee. What was that NZ coffee style again ?? Very curious
Saw you on Darwin’s 3 hour talk show. You were the best part! I’m super inspired to hike the PCT next year if “Rona” allows.
I watched your videos while flying from California to Dubai! Originally from SoCal so I’ve skimmed through some PCT trails along the “socal big six”
Love your content! Would love to see an ultra video if that ever becomes your goal.
You are awesome!! Thank you!
How wonderful!!
I’m glad you mentioned how life at home a had changed while you were away. That’s such an odd feeling
wonderful hike and video!
i am going to commit to this when COVID is over and we can travel again. Videos like this are so good like realistic about what to expect etc
Thank you Elina.
Great video. Thinking about PCT seriously now.
Hey Tip Tap you and Restless kiwi had some super videos this year on the PCT. Your documentary was excellent. Thanks for all your hard work. Great to watch over and over.
I am honored to be put in the same sentence as TipTap. I have loved watching her journey through her beautiful, entertaining and professionally edited videos
Agree +1 🙂
