What about elevenses? Afternoon tea?? Supper???

I WAS THINKING THIS TOO
too much food to waste time with, it's so much easier to eat once every 36 - 48 hours, eat a pound of beef and some fruit within 60 min. and resume hiking, salt water in between meals
The peanut butter footage...during the poop talk. 😂😂
I was eating 😩

“you can do one more mile. You can always do one more mile. “. Absolutely love that quote. AT 2020, coming soon.
We're you able to make it to the AT this year?
Psychotic Veteran started March 8. Made it 10 days to Rock Gap NC before the AT emailed asking hikers to go home. March 6, 2021 start date part deux. I’ll restart at Springer.
Well done! Made me realize all our days off trail are even more repetitive. Get up, shower, walk and feed the dogs, drive to work, work, drive home, veg out with CZcams, sleep, get up.....
And the scenery most never changes....

Sounds like my dad's life.
Dave mate, break the monotony of suburban existence. Next time you feel like doing a poop just hang it in the back yard. Then follow it up the next evening and hang a poop in the local park.
Before you know it you'll make it to the fringes of the woods to poop after work.
That really is all camping and hiking is about anyway, the rest is just product placement.

Just gonna leave this here

The editing during your poop talk deserves a damn Oscar!
"late to rise, late to bed..."
wakes up at 6:00 AM
I think she means late to get started for the day
Eating a mile before camp. Cant believe I never thought about that. Thanks for the idea. I'll put it to use on the CT next year.
Dixie, you're authentic and very informative .. and motivating .. I simply love your videos
Do a video on your zero days and the little towns that you really liked. And an other on the wonderful nature spots. (I'm thinking it's not just an athletic event) love the videos thanks!
Please?...lol
I second that! Seems like it would be fun to watch...especially for those of us planning a thru hike. But I honestly think I would watch anything she posts. She has taught me a ton already!
I love zero day town footage. I wish there was more of it.
Agree. And which towns you recommend sending resupply packages to.
And just for fun have the video play at super fast pace, since zero days rush by like a movie playing at 2 to 4 times normal speed.
Great video!
Can you do another one, but for a “town day”? That would be super helpful for future long-distance hikers like me :)
The easiest job you can ever ask for, the hardest job you can ask for. Some of the most exciting boredom you'll ever experience. It has such wonderful Ying and Yang you can ever hope to be blessed with in life.
I love that you went back and added footage from when you were out on trail. Awesome to see the routine of a fellow backpacker and how our styles are similar, but differ in many ways. You are absolutely right that the amazing thing about hiking is the complete freedom to make whatever choices you want. So awesome. Great video Dixie! Enjoyed 🙌🏻
I am a bushcrafter. Thank you for this glimpse into your life. I've been curious as to how our worlds differ and this explained it perfectly. Thank you again!
Love this! It answered a couple questions that I've always wondered about. Thank you for always making the most incredible videos!
Nice. Thanks for sharing your Trail Secrets! Love your vids.
Best videos! Super informative, picks every question i've had thinking about CDT/camping.
My rythm is early to bed and late to get up. It works. :-)
Mirek L - That’s awesome!! And my favorite. I have to learn to shave some time off both sides personally. 😊
Me too. I love sleeping
Good advice even when not hiking 😉
Thank you so much for posting a video like this. I'm in the process of getting everything finalized for my PCT attempt and this video helped me feel so much more confident in my routine from my standard trips
Pretty sure we could be trail mates! I totally see myself having a slightly slower start and a motivated afternoon, too! I appreciate the way you honestly share with just the right amount of TMI🤣
Great video! Love the thorough day-in-the-life overview. Thanks!
Thanks, Dixie. This is one I've always wanted to see. I want to get out there more than ever now. Long Trail, VT, 2019 or some portion of it, is the goal.
this is one of the best informative videos I've seen to date of what it might be like for someone who hasn't done the trail and wants an honest description with no bs. thanks
One of the best chats you've shared with us. Practical, relevant, and 100% all Dixie!
That was such a great perspective on what it's like to hike, the good and the bad and the practical. Such great production too! Thank you so much.
I love your videos, Dixie! This one made me crave a thru-hike big time.
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing your experiences!❤️
Thanks Dixie! Awesome video and I really appreciated all the detail!
This is just what is needed for a novice thru hiker like me. So much detail and so much common sense advice. I feel much more confident after watching this and your other videos. Thanks Dixie xxx
Love how you remember to listen to your mama and just try. 😊
Shared this on FB so all my family can see what I am looking forward to. Thanks Dixie!
Love this video! All your episodes of your thru hikes give us a great overview of your trip, but this daily breakdown is really interesting. It's cool to hear your thought process for why you do what you do and when. Thanks for sharing!
Love this so much!! Very helpful & interesting
Great vid Jess....That was tons of good info for the beginner and novice !!!
Great video. I love the sunrise and sunset shots. I am addicted to sunrises and sunsets. They are my favorite thing about the outdoors.
Kevin Satterwhite Thank you! I love them, too ❤️
This is a great video. Most things in this video can be found in your other videos, but it's so nice to have it all organized in this one video. Thanks!
The shadow boxing was fun! I'd love a puzzle of that black sand and trees with the pink, so lovely!
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing Dixie 🌿💚🌿
Great video for someone just thinking about trying for there first go at it thanks for sharing!
Just phenomenal! I needed this info! ❤️
Thanks for the great video of you daily hiking schedule!!!
Love this video, the nitty gritty, such a psyche up!
Wow! It is a busy day.
I found your suggestion about cooking dinner before you get to a campsite very smart. I, personally like to start early before sunrise and then set up camp before dark. So you are right each hiker has their own preferences. I always like cowboy camping because I'm lazy and it easier for an early start. But each to their own.
Loved this video on your daily routine.
Thank you.
you give the best explanations and accounts of backpacking ever, love your relaxed videos
Thank you Dixie for all these incredible videos you make! It's appreciated so much!!
This was one of my favorites of all the posts you have done. It so perfectly captures life on the trail. Some times when I am missing the trail, Its this type of stuff that fills me up and makes me feel like the trails are not too far away. Thanks!
Aloha. I agree. I did Great Smoky Mtn. AT from Davenport Gap South to Fontana dam in 1973. Dixie brings back the memories in a pleasant way. Good memories. I've watched her AT video adventure. Several of her "how/what to do" posts. They all bring back stored away memories. Escapism at it primal best. Can't wait to view her PCT and CDT vids. Always wanted to hike those. But, haven't. Rats.
This was awesome, I think I got more out of this than from any of the books and forums I've read so far! Thank you! :)
Love the Mt. San Jacinto views taken from the opposite side of the pass that keep popping up in various videos!
Always enjoy your down to earth and knowledgeable videos 😊😊. Thanks for sharing, stay safe and enjoy.
What a wonderful video. I think one of your best, and I have followed you since Springer Mountain. From the heart. Straightforward. A true depiction of your life on the trail. I can’t believe that The Discovery Channel or some other Reality Channel hasn’t picked you up. Their loss.
Your comment about you favorite time of day made me think of this favorite poem from a favorite movie.
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay. - Robert Frost
- Pony Boy
stay gold, pony boy
And then you go poop
hey did you draw the eye in your pfp? if so, you're amazingly talented. it looks beautiful.
I remember this poem only because of The Outsiders
Dixie you’re awesome, such an inspiration. Totally love ya, I’m originally a southerner too from bay saint Louis MS. Now a resident of Colorado. You have inspired me even with 4 heart surgeries, to get out there and hike my own hike. I’m 45 now and my dream is either the pct or cdt. God willing, gear willing I’ll get there before 50. I’m two weeks post op now, I’m praying to be out there by spring 2021 (I know my window is closing) I’m slowly collecting my gear, trying my hardest to get my big three. Anyway I love ya, followed forever and was in your opsie video, I grabbed the trail marker (that wasn’t wood) and tumbled, thanks for including me (made me smile) I just wanted to thank you for being so kind, inspirational and willing to help us newbies figure all this out, best of all you make me feel, even tho I’m older and some health issues, I can get out there!🏔🌲🚶🏻♀️🌳🏕🦋🌝🌘⛈❤️
This was so much fun! Thank you for a great video!
Need my coffee before I consider doing anything except the toilet. Most important enjoy because that is why you are out there!
Love all the detail and unabashed honesty in here. It's fun. I've been a person that backpacks for about 40 years now and your routines are not much different than my own.
simply brilliant. i'm a new hiker. though an experienced flyfisherman. I'm trying to get a little deeper into our coastal mountains (BC, Vancouver Island)to be able to flyfish headwaters and such, hiking being the necessary evil to make that happen. Your honest and entertaining style has encouraged me to push a little harder to make this new "hike into headwaters" plan come true. I'll no longer think sleeping in a bit late on the trail, or eating burrito wrapped foods and runny peanut butter is a negative. Though the runny peanut butter may prove a bit of a problems until I can get that image out of my head..
Great job, really. Please do more vids. You are humble, sincere, funny and experienced... all things required for people who want the adventures you live, for themselves. Keep up the good work.
Your vids rock and making me want to hike more of the trail. 🤙
Thanks Dixie. This video is a keeper. Very helpful.
Id love to see a highlight reel of your worst days on the trails you've done. Really love the videos and congrats on your crown!
Liked, subscribed, and hit that bell icon, love all the practical advice, absolutely love your raw honesty/vulnerability, bless you!
Dixie as always loved the Video. Funny as well as informative. What's next??? The JMT, my favorite. Maybe the PCT South Bound?? That's something I have never seen??
This is really helpful. Thank you for sharing the routine and structure of your day--and why you chose to do thinks in a certain way. I'm sure this will help lessen the learning curve for many new backpackers and touring cyclists alike.
Fascinating! And superb video too. Loved it.
From SC I've been hiking and climbing around Colo - Wyoming - Montana since 1991 (mostly elk hunting. Since 2005 I been spending 5/6 months a yr in Colo. Having said that I've learned a bunch from your talks and hiking. Thanks for being here you are a blessing.
The shadow matching was funny! I loved it. Thanks for making all these amazing and informative videos :)
There are no coincidences with meeting people on the trail- only divine appointments.
Great videos!
Keep up the good work!
Loved it! Great insight!
Thanks Dixie learned more in this video than i thought i would! Great Job!
I have enjoyed every one of your videos, you are a real shooting star!
Wow, great video. I'm ready for a nap after watching this. A guy I once talked to said thru- hiking is just like a job. You get up, go to work, (hike), then go to bed at night. Just in a different location every night.
Love this video :) I did half of the Arizona Trail last spring and then got an awesome outdoor job in Alaska, so I took an... extended break from the trail to pursue that. I'm finishing the other half of it this spring. Last year at this time I was binge-watching your videos to get ready for the trail. Thank you so much for putting these out, it really helped me prepare. I think it also helped my family not be so nervous about me being a solo female out there. I am also a late to rise, late to bed kind of hiker, so, thank you for the validation! I also use an InReach to give daily updates to my family. Right now I'm still in Alaska, getting in shape and meal prepping for the other 400 miles. 400 miles is adorable compared to the CDT, PCT, and AT... but still tough! Have you considered hiking the Arizona Trail? It's gorgeous and not crowded at all. Lots of solitude. With your experience you could probably finish it in 40 days or less. Most hikers that I encountered on the AZT had already completed the AT, Florida Trail, etc. and were testing out their ultralight set-up, or trying to push themselves to get it done in under 40 days. I was one of the only newbies out there and it really showed. Anyway, thanks again for the amazing videos. Best of luck on all your adventures :)
18:13 finding a friend like that would make my day happier too. 😁
Thank you so much for this great Grandma Gatewood series. I plan to be a proud senior on the trail with whatever gear I have.
I love the long videos tons of useful information.
Really, really enjoy hiking with you,,Ha,,thanks for taking us all along.
Nice work! I have done thousands of miles of hiking myself and what you put in this video mirrors a lot of what I've done. The one thing I've noticed at least for me, is it's more fun to do it with someone else. You look like you could be really fun to hike with! Especially since you're so capable. Anyway happy hiking!
I utilized your videos to prepare for my first thru hike of the Colorado Trail. Thanks for all of the information you've provided! It's been very helpful! I'm a native Floridian and I'm now currently living in a tiny town in Colorado where I stayed in a hostel, and now I live there! I'm making plans to do the PCT in the Spring. Thanks for all your inspiration!
You are a real inspiration to me. I'm going to figure out how to do these things.
Love your videos. So helpful.
Never too many beautiful sunrise and sunset photos and video. :-) Thank you.
Once again good information and presentation....I tend to get started about 8:30 even if I'm up with the sun...loved the visual of the peanut butter dropping to the soft taco shell during the discussion of poop....it's always a victory when I can get it done before I leave in the morning...it becomes a bragging point between my hiking partners when we're out ....face it backpacking is not for the timid or those without humor...happy trails....
thankyou Dixie I am having some post trail depression and your video really made me remember how great the trail was and the freedom of the daily 'grind' of life on trail I really miss the freedom and the beauty. I'm sure I recognised some PCT spots in there? I especially liked your section on what I like to call 'nature breaks' LOL
Nice wrap up of a usual routine. I'm sure many people wondered. I'm with you on the coffee ! I prefer to set up for the night when there's still enough light to see exactly what is around me, though. It may be nice to hike at night but I like to pick a spot before sunset that hopefully, has a sunrise view and I like to relax and watch and takes pictures of the sunset. Best time of day to me when everyone and everything is winding down. Sunrise is just a good but after you have to get hiking instead of going to sleep all relaxed and unwound.
Great video. So much to learn from it.
Very informative video, thanks!
That was a fun video to watch - mainly because my schedule is pretty similar when out on the trail!
Love your videos made me want to hike the AT for three years. Starting my thru hike in March 2019.
Jason Anno - See you out there! It’s going to be amazing!!!
Good luck. Any plans on posting videos during your attemp?
@@keithmiller3202 I will be!! I have no videos up yet but this will be my channel.... :)
My bucket list ..
This was great! Thank you for making the video. The pictures of the different kinds of scat in Nature while you were sharing an important part of a morning routine was hilarious! Brilliant! 😂
Karen W Haha thank you. A bear does doo doo in the Woods!
I'm kind of amazed by the amount of things you manage to fit in a day. I always imagine I'd be so beat by the end of the day, I'd just pass out after eating some instant noodles.
That was a really informative and condense video, thank you for being on point...
Hiker TV! I love that because it's so true, nothing better than a good campfire and a stick to poke it with.
Hello my outdoors friend, I really enjoyed your break down of the activities when through hiking. You are well organized. With my work schedules, I could never commit to thru hikes. As always, take care, be safe and have fun. You have great photographic skills. 🤗
Omg I love your vids! Thank you !
Thank You for sharing your thoughts ♥️
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos 👍🏻
This is my favorite of all your videos. I really wish you would do a real-time video of your morning and evening routine. Many people would be bored but I would love it.
Dixie, loved that video!!!
Last summer I did a month thru-hike of the pyreneees, after getting back to 'ordinary life' you almost forget what it was like. This video reminded me a great deal of how it felt, and reminds me of how much I miss it! Your rythm is indeed very comparable to what mine was, although I never hiked in the dark and luckily have no bear issues in that area. Good to see some points on which could improve my routine too. Great video :)
Thanks again for a wonderful video. I love all that you share and this was just as entertaining as all previous videos. One thing that always makes me think/laugh is people who question how you can do this every day... well, how do you get up and do your daily routine? I assume a lot of people have desk jobs they go to every day, a routine of dropping off kids, getting to work, picking up kids, getting home, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with this, it's my routine (I know not everyone has children, but you get my point). There are pros and cons to both daily routines, but like you said for yours, you get the views, the terrain and the new relationships. I just felt like sharing, that it seems "silly" to question it when people tend to have repetitive lives to begin with at home. And this is not meant to be insulting, rude or mean to anyone. Just a bit of possible perspective, I guess :) No matter what your daily routine looks like, I hope that you enjoy it and make the most of it!
Great edit on this one!
I love your videos! Thank you!
Very well done. You inspire.
