- A good deal of Higurashi fans know of the epilogue: Saikoroshi, but few know of Higurashi’s console-exclusive alternate ending, Miotsukushi: a full fledged chapter that is every bit as enthralling and poignant as Matsuribayashi.

I played through all the chapters on PS2 and getting to Miotsukushi felt amazing. Things I love about it:
-Rika telling dumping all the info onto Keiichi very early on and both working to prevent tragedies. That whole scene was cathartic.
-Satoko coming to terms with her parents' death and the truth in this version is comforting (she realized they loved her, jumped for a hug, they were all going to fall, but the parents pushed her to safety and smiled knowing she will be safe)
-Satoshi in the end
-Characters in general remembering their mistakes in the past and doing the right thing.
It's kinda weird... I grew accustomed to the PS2 version so much that even though the subsequent versions have more music tracks from the VN, I thought the PS2 version's limited music fit some scenes better (Rika info-dumping on Keiichi, Hanyuu's death).
The PS2 seemed to have better timing and sound design anyways (The uso-da scene, the door chain scene).
i remember back in the late 2000s and early 2010s when the only glimpse to miotsukushi was only through the matsuri and kizuna arcs' opening. pv videos were hard to find (for a grade schooler with low knowledge of kanji) and cgs were few and far between if you dont know where to look. the fact that we have a complete unofficial translation and just so many content exclusive to the console readily available for the fans make me pretty envious at the wealth of content the higurashi fandom has nowadays (saikoroshi wasnt even fully translated back then!) and im happy that they'll be able to choose how much of higurashi's available content they want to experience compared to the limited experience of the eight core arcs i had back then
The 07th mod team deserve all the kudos in the world for bringing this content to the West.
@@WarudoChaos im surprised that theyre rarely (if ever?) acknowledged by the official team unlike witch hunt tbh, since i feel like working with them and making their mod integrated officially in the steam (and modern console) ports might help make the ryukishi's writings more easily accessible to the non-jp speaking fandom
@@Porfonto I agree it's a tragedy that they don't collab in an official capacity like Witch Hunt, but I think the reason for that is probably licensing related. The official MangaGamer Higurashi release comprises only the PC content since that is owned by 07th Expansion. The console ports are owned by Alchemist so the rights to those were likely not included in the deal. IF they ever did get officially licensed, my guess is that 07th Mod would be asked to collab.
Awesome video and thank you so much for using my gameplays :)
As always, thank you for uploading!
Really loved Miotsukushi on my first read earlier with year through the PS2 version. Personally, I prefer it matsuribayashi due to it having one of my actual favourites scenes in the series with Rika and Keiichi as well as their dynamic being amazing. I really loved the structure here plus the ending was perfect
Great video though, need more people to read this
Your level of comprehension on higurashi and complex introspection on the series are nuts. You are insanely good, and should have more subs.
Thank you! I try!
Strange how you say they may add elements from Miotsukushi hen later but they did at least a little in Gou. As Keiichi acts very similar to how he runs the Club as leader in both. With each of them wanting to make it so anyone can join the club if they want to.
tbf Keiichi taking over for Mion is such a no-brainer that I dont know if it's fair to say it was "inspired" by Miotsukushi - it's more that's just the natural progression in any timeline where Rika defeats Takano.
@@WarudoChaos I wasn't referring to him taking over per say just how he runs the club in both is the same. As in Gou he points out that their are usually a lot more people club members joining in. Which was the main difference they showed in Miotsukushi between Mion and Keiichi.
@@DragoonBB Keiichi was going to succeed as club leader eventually anyway, something that was already stated by the end of Matsuribayashi.
ty for the high quality content
I loved Miotsukushi. I don't know if this is the right term but the victory in Matsuribayashi felt a little... easy mode? Unearned? In Miotsukushi it just felt like she worked her butt off to get what she wanted, didn't feel like she got lucky at all.
I enjoy your word soup from time to time
Ooh this was interesting and fun to learn about Higurashi, just when I thought I knew everything about it there's always more to explore! Thanks for making this
in this arc, the characters still defeated Takano not through their own efforts, but through the power of friendship and an incomprehensible miracle. At the moment of Takano's" battle " with Rika, I wanted to stop reading the chapter. The best additional chapter, in my opinion, is Yoigoshi or all the chapters about Mini. Sorry for my bad English
You can't deny it had a lot of great moments where Kei displayed his greatness as a leader and solved the club's problems, also his endearing interactions with Mion and Rika satisfied the romantic wishes of the fans
your English is perfectly fine if not better then a lot of English native speakers, don't be sorry lol
Kinda disagree with you there.
Matsu-hen feels like everything works out for the group right off the bat. Miotsu-hen feels like the complete opposite of what you just say.
Keichi and Rika would have lost the first time they met Takano at the shrine. Takano understood their plan from the very beginning and took countermeasures, but because of an unknown miracle, Keichi simply became immortal. I can also note, that Yamainu is completely useless in both Matsu-hen and Miotsu-hen
Way better than home alone in the mountain
I actually play Miotsukushi through the Switch port (Higurashi Hou), and Takano's backstory is actually separate from Matsuribayashi, being instead, the prologue of the "Fragment World" segment of the game, which contains Fragment Spinning, Matsuribayashi, Miotsukushi (Omote and Ura), Saikoroshi, Kotohogushi, and Hajisarashi.
As such, it is why it is not told anywhere in Miotsukushi, because they treat it as you already know about it (the same apply to Matsuribayashi).
SWITCH PORT?!
O_o
@@Ramsey276one Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou (ひぐらしのなく頃に奉)
Released on Nintendo Switch and later PS4.
Contain all console arcs that has been ever released and 3 more extra arcs (Outbreak, Outbreak -Kamikashimashi-, and Hinamizawa Bus Stop).
There's going to be a remaster of it soon, too.
@@kingmaster04 YAY!
That's actually not right. In the original PS2 version of Higurashi, Matsuribayashi's prologue is nowhere to be found at all. That arc was still in development at the time, so it couldn't be included, which is the main reason why Miotsukushi exists to begin with. If you read that version, you really will miss out on most of its information. The append disc adds a heavily censored version of the first part of the prologue (up to the point where you'd be delving into the fragments), but it's only unlocked after finishing Miotsukushi.
Only later console ports cover the entire prologue (albeit with plenty of censorship) and require reading it before both Matsuribayashi and Miotsukushi.
Every copy of Higurashi is personalized
Wow great video, this chapter sounds crazy. I'm definitely reading it
Thank you!
This comment is to etch in time that i was an honest sub of a fellow when they cry supremacist youtuber before he blew up to millions of subs
Keep at it mate. Your videos are breath taking
Would be cool if this arc is animated
Mixed feelings on Miotsukushi.
Not being written by RK07, and having this very optimistic tone, it feels a bit like a tacked-on happy ending for the sake of fan service rather than a true conclusion to the 7 previous parts.
Then again Matsuribayashi, which was written by RK07, also feels like an overly positive fan service fake ending tacked on to make people happy.
Since both endings feel like fan fiction rather than something written by the same author who began the series, its difficult to choose one over the other. Ultimately, the best tjing to do might simply be to read Matsuri as far as Connecting Fragments and then stop.

i dont know man , seeing the gou /sotsu stuff it feels like the villain of the story chased after different rika loopers before the goddess made a rule to chase the same rika with certain conditions.
Probably there is a rika that reached the matsuri ending and another rika that reached the miotsukushi ending.
The villain in gou is shown to have seen minagoroshi and two version of matsuribayashi with minor changes.
I remember pirating matsuri kakera asobi for the PS2 but it was in japanese , there was no way for me to understand , i made it to watanagashi searching for the kanjis and meanings on the net then i gave up.

I enjoyed Miotsukushi as there were some developments with Keiichi and Mion relationship
I wonder what would've happen if Rika lost in here too. If I'm correct, then the power Lack of Hanyuu was stated at the end of Chp. 7, which most likely explains why she couldn't enter at all
por supuesto que lo conozco si es mi favorito y mi headcanon
The first half of Miotsukushi was great, but as soon as Teppei appeared, I liked this chapter less and less, it felt like it goes to extremes more and more, for example Teppei is now a junkie and Takano looks like a maniac, the battle with Yamainu felt boring and fight beetwen Takano and Rika was laughable to me, so I would prefer a mix of Miotsukushi and Matsuribayashi as the ending of the series.
Too bad it isn't canon, I still liked it, way better that matsuribayashi, the video was ok.
I wish it was. Could've been a great conclusion
Jokes on you I knew about it and read both Omote and Matsuri
Love this alt chapter. However that Plot twist at the end added in Omote version was just bad, imo. I would stick to the original PS2 version.
So a good way to experience this is Matsu-hen first
I personally don't think the twist is "bad' per se, but I would say it's a clunky and unnecessary addition that just feels like a twist for its own sake without any greater purpose. That said, for those who have worked their way through the Advanced Story, I did greatly enjoy the minor changes, most significantly, Tomoe's cameo. It was so fulfilling to see her finally appear in the main storyline. The PS2 port is probably fine for those who don't care about the Advanced Story/Kotohogushi, but for those who want to consume all the Higurashi content, I think Omote is more comprehensive.
If rika happy I’m happy
my problem with matsuribayashi is because the whole situation is so simply and childishly resolved that it made me completely frustrated.
It could have been in the anime they could have made a manga all of it I just wish that higurashi alternative ending could have been in the anime is a ova or in the manga nevertheless I really wish he could have had made an anime and manga version of this I wish I could hit the dinner original series a long time ago whoever read this please ask one of the makers of this to make an anime are Manga of this please do I really like to see the alternate ending into an anime or a manga like I say please read this and let them know that they should make an anime of this and manga version of this is well ☯️🙏😌🙏☯️
Sotsu will probably have the same ending as the original higurashi but Satoko instead
finish your sentence
@@IchibanOjousama no
With the exception being that satoko will go through with her self-sacrifice and officially become a witch unlike takano who could not bring herself to sacrifice herself and fulfill Lamdadelta's expectations.
Do you think Ryukishi could decide to adapt it as the final part of Sotsu? Always with variations like the other arcs
@@Euphrynichus lol
Ok so did they get a good or ending or bad ending?
Probably more good than bad.
@@WarudoChaos thank you
oh?
Alternative arc of Matsuribayashi hen but still ended bad ending.
I am probably in the minority but i prefer the original Matsuribayashi over this alternate ending. Miotsukushi in my opinion feels more like fanservice rather than a "serious" entry into the higurashi series.
Just like Bleach, Naruto or Slayers or any long franchise i don't see any season or novel as ending until they confirm any ship of Keiichi
🙄
Ryukishi07 said we can ship him with who we want to, although I notice that there is far more text in the canon arcs saying K1 likes Rena, more so loves her. In the first scene in the VN, K1 explicitly thinks "I loved you" while beating Rena's corpse with Satoshi's metal bat.
In the non-canon arcs, including a lot of Miotsukushi, there's more stuff that's primarily K1 x Mion. Just take a look at the barbecue where people celebrate K1 becoming class president, and half (maybe even more than half) of the village coming because Shion tells everybody "Mion has found her special somebody".
Edit: incase you don't know, k1 equals Kei (making the k sound) and ichi (meaning one)
I think the reason they don’t fully retell takano’s backstoty in this arc is because it is intended to be played by those who have already finished matsuribayashi. It’d feel a bit long-winded to tell that twice, unless they make some changes (which would further differentiate this arc from the main storyline.)
You realize all these other arcs are fanmade
You realize most JP fans of Higurashi were introduced to the VN through the numerous console ports so good luck arguing whether that A) is valid (it's not) B) even matters at all
@@WarudoChaos The console ports had little to no involvement from 7th expansion in its development which by definition means it is not canon
@@backseatgaming9087 they were all reviewed by Ryukishi07 and given his blessing. So canon or not, it ultimately doesn't matter because they're "official".
