PLOT: In this animated feature, canine casino owner Charlie (Burt Reynolds) is killed by gambler Carface (Vic Tayback), but returns to Earth from heaven thanks to the powers of a magical, rewindable watch. Charlie sets out to take his revenge on Carface by means of an elaborate plan that involves an orphan girl, Anne-Marie. But as the plan progresses, Charlie discovers that Anne-Marie is being exploited by Carface. Charlie must decide whether to change his mission from one of revenge to one of rescue.

I gotta be honest, deciding to have Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise record their lines together was a great choice. I think that all dynamic duos in animated movies should record together.

They were best friends in real life
One thing that struck me as I got older was that based on the lore, Charlie had literally given up paradise for eternity just to come back to Earth, kill his murderer, and start his business over. Yeah his watch kept him alive but it's his literal Achilles heel. Kind of crazy just cuz he made several bad choices in life he decided to try again and risk hell itself.
Absolutely. But that completely fits his character, even when they're reviewing his life in the book of souls in Heaven, it says nothing but bad things about him and the only reason he wasn't initially damned to hell was because... "All dogs go to heaven". Then he stole the watch and did the one thing that nullifies that motto. Furthermore, if I were to take a guess, Charlie seems to be under the impression that as long as the watch is safe and intact, he is basically immortal which is technically true given they unloaded a machine gun into him but because they missed the watch he wasn't killed or even left with injuries.
It all comes full circle though as character development for him when he starts to care for Anne Marie leading him to eventually choose to save her over the watch. Thus he is redeemed and given a new chance to return to Heaven.

I remember reading that Burt and Dom improvised most of their lines. Their chemistry was so exquisite
They were really good friends, so it makes sense that they would bounce off of each other so easily in whatever movie they were in together.
I like the detail of Charlie getting more vibrantly colored as he regains oxygen and life.

I just can’t imagine anyone except Dom and Burt voicing Itchy and Charlie, they both made the characters their own.

I know Charlie only came back after tampering with the watch that was his life force and also to get back at Carface for killing him. And it would’ve been funnier if Charlie haunted him as a ghost just to teach him a lesson now that would be funnier 😂.

Back in Hell a Cannibal Kid the one Vaggie spared is eating when a loud splashing sound is heard he hears it and stops eating.
Cannibal Kid: Huh? What's that? He walks over to the broken bridge where Valentino murdered Charlie
He looks down a little trying to see what it was
Charlie emerges from the water soaking wet coughing hard as she felt herself returning to life.
Charlie: *coughing hard eyes widen*
Cannibal Kid: AAAAAAAAAHHHHH AAAAAAAAAHHHHH MOMMY *he runs back to Cannibal Town to Rosie*
Charlie pulls herself out of the water climbing on the broken bridge soaking wet and dripping with water she was sickly colored and her back was broken as she staggered on all fours as her oxygen and breathing was starting to return.
Charlie: *coughs gasping holding her throat*
Charlie held her life watch and crawls a few feet away and she collapsed on the bridge still dead.
Charlie's Life Watch opens glows and starts ticking.
Charlie's normal colors returned and she opened her eyes as she fully returned to life and her spine slightly reformed
Charlie: *gasps and wheezing*
She sat up holding her life watch smiling.
Charlie: I'm alive
Emily's Voice: *in Charlie's life watch* Charlie You Can Never Come Back You Can Never Come...
Charlie closed her life watch and pulled herself up groaning realizing she had forsaken her place in Heaven without knowing it realizing if she died again she would go to The Mimic Realm the two former circles of Hell and be condemned
Charlie: *to herself* What have I done? I really messed up
The Princess of Hell walks away from the bridge and heads home to reunite with her girlfriend Vaggie.
It starts raining and thundering
At the Hazbin Hotel Vaggie is heard crying out in her sleep scared she was having a nightmare the Fallen Exorcist Angel girl was so traumatized from seeing her girlfriend get murdered by Valentino.
Vaggie: *in her sleep whimpering tossing and turning and thrashing* Charlie Charlie no
The door opens creaking slightly and a shadow comes near Vaggie and Charlie's bed.
Vaggie: CHARLIE LOOK OUT CHARLIE NO NO NO
Valentino grabs Vaggie's throat and strangles her.

Valentino: *in Charlie's voice* Vaggie it's ok it's ok Hun it's me Charlie
Vaggie wakes up breathing heavily and the image of Valentino fades revealing it was just Charlie trying to wake her up
Vaggie: Charlie Charlie it's you I... I saw Valentino and he was choking me he was grabbing my neck and... Oh hi Charlie
Charlie: *laughs happy to see her* Hi Vaggie
Vaggie however remembered she saw Charlie die and thought she was a ghost and had come back to haunt her.
Vaggie: AAAAAAAAAHHHHH
Charlie: *confused* Vaggie?
Vaggie: *panicked* CHARLIE YOU'RE A GHOST
Charlie: Vaggie wait
Vaggie gets out her Angelic Spear to protect herself from the ghost of her girlfriend.
Charlie: Vaggie please calm down I know you must be scared after...
Vaggie: Get back get back don't hurt me please or I'll hurt you you ghost please don't haunt me
Charlie: Vaggie I'm not a ghost I'm not dead
Vaggie: Don't try to fool me I'm sorry to do this
Vaggie is about to stab Charlie in the stomach and chest with her Angelic Spear but Charlie quickly grabbed it and pulled it away from her scared girlfriend and held her down gently.
Vaggie: *scared* Please don't haunt me I'm sorry I didn't save you...
Charlie quickly covers her mouth calming her down.
Charlie: Shhhhh *whispering* Vaggie I'm not a ghost I'm not dead now calm down Hun I'm going to take my hand away from your mouth and you're going to be calm are you?
Vaggie: *timidly* Yes
Charlie: Haha that's my girl *removes her hand from Vaggie's mouth*
Vaggie: *screaming in terror again*
Charlie quickly grabbed her girlfriend by the shoulders
Charlie: Would you calm down? Vaggie I'm alive I'll prove it to you look look can ghosts eat?
Vaggie: No ghosts can't eat
Charlie: Right *eats the food to prove she's alive*
Vaggie: Charlie? She now realizes Charlie wasn't really a ghost and she was back.
Vaggie: Charlie it's really you oh Charlie but I saw you die and the limo

Charlie hears this and she doesn't want to tell her girlfriend friends and father she had cheated death and was now condemned to The Mimic Realm if she died twice so she keeps it a secret.
Charlie: Uh it's classified Vaggie I don't want to talk about it but when I left he should've gone under
Vaggie: We could hide out in the forest and get a rent free cabin and live together
Charlie: The hotel business grew it got bigger and bigger and now he's not sharing it with us when I was the one who came up with it in the first place
Vaggie: We could share a cabin in the forest together and hide out
Charlie: I don't want to hide out from our friends and my dad Vaggie because we'll miss them
Vaggie: We can let them give us permission for it get us some food sodas and stuff for our cabin
Charlie: We know he's hiding something from us Vaggie
Vaggie: Poison potions guns and stuff
Charlie: And when I find out what he's hiding I'm going to ruin him I'm gonna make him suffer slow and he'll be begging me for mercy
Vaggie: Please don't think about revenge Hun I don't want you to get yourself hurt Listen Hun Valentino has got knives potions and he's got a monster in his secret room
