In India, success of a movie largely depends on its songs and background score. It's not surprising that the music directors give up their own creativity to meet the tight deadlines of movies. Also huge money is on the line which make the situations very tight and pressurising. I appreciate the creativity put by the original music composers and also their powerful words. Our people copy the tune but miss out the power of words. We are still using the words like dil, jigar and what not.
Huge money is on the line because of huge loans needlessly taken by the producers. They can make movie on low budget and get profits but don't even want to try. However they are always after a quick buck, so they steal music and even stories. There are various Hindi movies that were made which were made with original story and they well too, such as Three idiots in which they even credited the writer Chetan Bhagat. But the audience too is to blame. They want masala movies with copy cat proven formulas. But true movie buffs always avoid dumbed down copies of foreign movies and songs which are so much spiced up that their original meaning too was lost.

Arey behen, Westen music was very popular in North East India since the 1950's and half of all the western songs cassettes in India before the 90's were sold in the states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur , Mizoram and Sikkim, which had a huge fan following of western singers and artist. The rest were sold in Kolkatta, Mumbai, Darjeeling, Sikkim and other states. These Dolby Stereo cassettes came from Kolkatta and Mumbai before reaching NE India. Some Indian Music directors would buy these cassets and make their copies of the songs.
Even R.D Burman, the Panchamda himself, who was originaly from Tripura, would come to his home state just to listen to the newest songs trending in his state. And he would copy and incorporate them in his songs

Akele Hum Akele Tum movie itself was copied from Kramer vs Kramer with itself movie poster stolen from Sleepless in Seattle (wow Bollywood!!!). Last Christmas by Wham was not the only one plagiarized in this movie; Deep Purple's Sweet Child in Time was also copied by another song in the same movie.

OP Nayyar's Babujee Dhire chalna is not a totally lifted song. However inspiration is there,,,but final outcome of OPN is mind blowing. OPN did some improvement in his version. Because of this the song is alive till date. one of the most iconic number.
