- We try out the Calyx Institute for mobile internet while on the road. It can be a great value for those who have good native Sprint coverage.
They now offer affordable quarterly pricing.

Thanks for giving us an ongoing update after you've used it for awhile, it really means quality in a review video! I can't count how many times I've watched a review, and they basically unbox it and then act like they have qualitative input at that point.
Thanks for your video, seriously considering this.
Just renewed for another year. We’ve used multiple TB of data in a month. Works better and better as the networks expand and improve.
After I watched your vid on the blown rad hose I had all my hoses done on my mci! There were 21 different hoses replaced!
Nice! That’s not a road side repair you want to do. If our experiences are nothing more than a cautionary tale, then it’s been a success.
I just wanted to say thank you SO much for doing this video. I had no idea the 8000 even had signal strength info build into it like that. Great info!
Checking into mobile internet options now and really appreciate your thorough explanation of this! Did the membership end up including a VPN service as well?
calyx.net looks like yes, I have not used it yet.
Great video buddy, thank you!
will it work today, if i'm running youtube stream while i'm driving a truck?
Does this use a SIM card? I’m looking into getting calyx and I have a mofi router I previously used for another company.
Yes, however TOS says you can’t do that. However word is they don’t enforce it. Go for it.
Hopefully, it will be nice when/if they switch to T-Mobile. Thanks for the information.
Hope so too.
Was the service that you are thinking, called Freedom pop?
Yes, thank you.
@@HimmelbergerBus Glade to help.
How long did it take to receive this after you ordered?
Couple of days.
Do you know if they have throttling, or have you experienced throttling?
No throttling, we’ve used over 1 TB in a month.
it comes w/ t-mobile sim card?
Not sure about now, but my current sim works on T-Mobile network
How do you like it so far and did you find a way to cool it?
On the down low, I switched to a Netgear Nighthawk M1 . Got 85mbs down and 25mbs up with it. I won’t put out a video on it, but you can learn more on the subreddit.
@@HimmelbergerBus Can you give me a link to the subreddit? thanks for all the info, your video is super helpful.

Is it unthrottled internet? Like can I game and download alot on it?
Yes, we pulled 400gb one month. Ping is anywhere from 30 to 150
Thanks for replying back. I definitely am interested in donating because as I do research on the company, sounds like they have a good cause. Plus pretty sweet to have this as a gift for donating.
These devices are heavily throttled
down to Kilobytes ( got this via txt on my Calyx hotspot: FYI, you've
now used 50 GB of data. You may experience reduced speeds at peak times
in some areas until your next bill cycle ) device is essentially useless
at these speeds
Nope, make sure to change the APN . We’ve used multiple TB of data in a month, no throttling.
I used their internet service for several years. Was definitely worthwhile! But back in early May (I was notified earlier) they had to change hotspots. Since then, the service absolutely sucks! I've gone through their 3rd party support. Even obtained a replacement hotspot. Still sucks! Buyer beware.
I’ve had great luck using the net gear nighthawk. It does require some techno skill to get working on calyx.
@@HimmelbergerBus Love suggestions. But they supply the hotspot so I assumed that's what I'm stuck with.
@@HimmelbergerBus I have a Nighthawk and would love to use it. Can you direct me to what you did via link to a video or website?
10 down??? YIKES!
With the T-Mobile transition I’m getting 30-40 down with 30 ping. Can actually game on it.
@@HimmelbergerBusHey 30 is not bad, I wish there was some type of trial. Putting down $500 seems risky but it might be worth it just to stick it to Charter.
@@iFistCats I just ordered a Netgear Nighthawk M1 to move the sim card into. I've heard reports on reddit.com/r/calyx if people getting 100 mb/s or more with it. I'll do an update.
@@HimmelbergerBus Awesome. Looking forward to it.
@@HimmelbergerBus any update on the M1 yet
Too long... didn't watch.
