  • While there was good news for sims 4 patches, updates and bug fixes, electronic arts games all continue to be impacted by the ea app not working, crashing, missing library/ dlc packs and more. And with a focus on live services, apps and launches alike poses problems for future games.

This was unexpected news! The sims 4 announced a new team to work on base game improvements, broken gameplay, packs and even major issues like the sims 4 crashing. Plus, there's a brand new laundry list for sims 4 including fixes for packs like: for rent, dine out, cottage living, high school years, growing together, and more.
Could this be because of pressure from sims competitors like life by you, inzoi or paralives? maybe, maybe not- but let's hope this is a better year for sims 4 content, sdx and patches.

The EA app also has an issue logging users out randomly, and constantly making them check off that they've read the updates TOS. Which I've read, and says as you play a game with online features EA will run a program that functions basically as spyware. Its to reduce cheating, hacking, and harassment among players, but could be scary if that software isn't properly implemented.

After all the issues I had with Origin during The Sims 3 era this was exactly why I didn't want them to tie playing games to their app with no option to play without it.
For whatever reason EA just can't make a solid, stable, well functioning app. Then again, they have similar problems with most of their games so it's not much of a surprise.

Shortly after installing the EA app after Origin, my MacBook Pro randomly had a pink hue on the screen after being idle for a while (on but closed). I restarted and it was fine for a while when using my browser, but then after opening Sims 4 and entering gameplay it flashed pink and shut down… my MacBook is brand new and I am VERY careful with CC & mods, flag for viruses prior to downloading etc etc.
Since updating everything this hasn’t occurred again, but it is still really concerning…
I hope EA can sort themselves out soon. They have such potential to be dominating the market, but they fall short every time😢

It's so good to see more people talking about EA bad company habits and disregard for quality. I think this is a larger problem in the U.S. with most major corporations having tunnel vision on "growth" and profit, which results in them prioritizing their expenditures into aggressive marketing instead of fixes, job fulfillment and accountability. We've seen EA cut spending on job positions (remember last year's EA layoffs?), talk about utilizing AI where they can, shrink costs by thinning their products and selling them piecemeal, leave bugs unfixed in their games and apps, no customer service so there's no accountability, and market, market, market with more and more in-game ads, the shopping cart, and sales every other month.
Make no mistake, their new "fix-it" team is just a renewing of the QA people they got rid of years ago and they make a big announcement acting like they're doing us a favor when they never should have gotten rid of them in the first place. They know how to manipulate and care absolutely nothing for their products except for how much money they rake in. It's downright gross and unethical.
Thank goodness there is finally, FINALLY a bunch of competition on the horizon. My theory is, when Grant Rodiek (who was with them for 20 years) recently abandoned Project Rene to do his own simulation game, they finally realized the sea of sewage they were wading in from their own bullcrap and now, nearly 10 years later, they're trying to backtrack to plug a broken dam with a band-aid.

'Still a problem' sums up EA and so many of the other major publishers. The title of worst gaming company has become irrelevant, it changes every week, they're grouped together as 'one of the worst'. All this time and the app seems to be getting worse, not better. Thankfully, EA have very little that appeals to me and I can do without the couple of things that do appeal.
That statement from EA is nothing more than corporate speak and the investor day will be nothing more than that. It's just what they say to keep the shareholders happy and to back up their doubling down on live services. They all claim to be industry leaders despite the issues they all have.

The way I've seen people talk, EA is the industry leader. First to do something wrong or ( from what I've seen) only company that's doing wrong. I don't see anyone talking about other companies in this way. It's more like ' things happen, we understand '.

Others have had their share too, it all depends on who the spotlight is turned onto at that particular moment.

@@Elwaves2925 ah right. I retract my comment about not hearing anything about other companies. I watched Dr. Gluon play a pirate game from Ubisoft. I forget the name. $60 + micro transactions. Seems not everything but I don't know the ratio. The only other pirate game I know is Sea of Thieves. It definitely seems they didn't try when compared to that game but even without comparing, Ubisoft's game is just meh. Apparently they are known for quickly dropping the price at least 50%. Which if it's the same pattern for every game ( like after 2 months) they're hurting themselves.
I forgot Paradox. Cities Skylines 2 has angered people. From what I'm seeing, many in the Sims community would be praising them. The BG reviews are mostly negative and the DLC was given for free. From what I saw before the DLC was made part of the BG, the negative reviews were talking about the BG. So IDK if the dlc actually was bad or Paradox got the wrong message. It's interesting seeing LbU being delayed knowing this. Different devs but same publisher. Though my theory is it's not because of CS, but because of the goal to get history to repeat. I'm subscribed to one channel who played CS & CS 2, they brought up a few other channels who were talking about the issues and this person joined in. They don't play CS or 2. Seems like a successful boyxott, seeing dreams stats for number of players each month. I'm going to have to see what the number was in October when the game came out. Ok that's all the complaints I know of.

@@AutobotSimmer The most recent thing with Ubisoft was over their upcoming Star Wars game, with it's multiple editions and content locked behind those paywalls. That type of thing isn't new for them but it gained attention this time likely because it's Star Wars. Go back further and there's all the abuse of their workers (more than just crunch) which the higher ups refused to take any accountability for.
I seem to remember something with ActiBlizz as well, maybe Warcraft and/or Diablo related but I don't care for their games so don't follow their news too closely. Sony just had a load of backlash over their insistence on signing in to their network, which isn't possible in some countries. They backtracked in some cases but others were still screwed. If I could be bothered to look I'm sure Microsoft will have done something too and they did just close those studios, putting people out of work.

We often talk about things of this nature being a gaming problem with many companies. It's all part and parcel of an ongoing problem in our society at large. It's all about end-stage capitalism: the companies are so focused on making money that the customers they supposedly are trying to attract are no longer considered important. It's so frustrating!
People say "We should boycott the game (or whatever product is in question)!" But the number of people who hear about a boycott is so small in number that the companies don't notice (or if they do, they write those people off as "Oh, well. We're doing well enough without them.")

    • @AutobotSimmer

Seems you pointed out the why; end-stage capitalism. They know the end is near, soon ( though might be years) laws will be made to tell them this isn't right, give things for dirt cheap or free. So scramble to make money now. Which I think gets people saying 'f capitalism' more, laws should be made by now saying this is all illegal. Endless circle until the laws are officially made.

I think the app is like ts4; not everyone is getting an issue, but it seems like a few glitches are more common for the app vs ts4. I don't think EA can fix the app. They have to make a bew one which they won't. At least for many years. Well actually even if they do, probably won't matter since Origin was a disaster but not like the EA spp.

You know, it's companies like EA that give live service games a bad rep., which sucks because live service could actually be good. It can create replayability for their game, and make sure their game always stays up to date with things. A company I think that does a really good job at this is Hoyo. Genshin, for example, is a live service game. They're always updating it with new events, quests, and even bug/quality of life fixes. They do a survey almost every month to make sure the game is satisfactory to you and even request that you leave any comments at the end. All while being FREE to play - optional in-game purchases that do make the game easier but unessential for gameplay. If EA could do this with their live service games, they wouldn't get as much backlash. Im not even asking that they make it to where theres no purchases, just that they pick and choose what should be a free update or pack more wisely. Like the suspected Romance Pack coming up, like really? You can make this a free update to one of the existing pack or to the base game. Just like how Horse Ranch should've been a free update to Cottage Living at the very least. My First Pet is a free update to Pets.
