I don't think it's being a Karen. It's demanding our money's worth from a billion $ company. Love how you keep it real, Satch! The sims community needs to continue to fight back and not accept this apology until they show it. And even then, I'd still push back because it has been 10 years of bugs and bs.

I guess the slight placebo of it working sliiiiightly better is because the mods were disabled.
Speaking of mods, that's another thing I personally hate about TS4. One update and all of a sudden, half the mods I am using become unusable and I need to find updated versions of them.
@randallb2179 You're gonna have that with every game you play with mods, though, if it's still being developed with content updates. You would need to play an old abandoned game to avoid the need for mod updates, for example TS1 or TS2.

(1) the updates seem so frequent and rarely make major improvement to the gameplay. It feels like they are making me go through the chores of updating my mods, without giving me any noticeable benefit.
(2) To make things worse, the base game is devoid of content. At times, it feels like the game is unplayable without mods. This just serves to make (1) worse.
@@randallb2179 oh yeah I get that. That bothers me too. It's the main reason why I have phases where I don't play the sims at all for several months, because I don't feel like going through the hassle of spending 2 hours with mod updates. I have automatic game updates disabled, so when I am in a playing phase and they release a patch, I continue playing in offline mode for a while. That way I won't need to update my mods again before I feel like it.

You're a realist, Satch, and that's important. You call it as you see it. There used to be such a thing as "constructive criticism." Keep doing what you're doing. The more noise we make as a community the more the Sims Team will pay attention.

The game loads much faster when mods are disabled. Perhaps that's why it started up quicker.

I agree, it's 100% fear of the competition. Simguru Grant, who left a while back, is also making a new life simulation game, so besides Life By You, Paralives, Alterlife, Inzoi, there's yet another one coming, from another ex the sims employee. So yeah, it's 100% fear of the competition. But maybe that means that Sims 5 (project rene) will at least be better. They have to make that better than basic kid friendly no gameplay Sims 4. :P
Doubt it, they're probably going with their Project Olympus 2.0 idea and making the Sims a multi-player online game full of micro
transactions and free to play.

About the EA Sports part, FIFA/EAFC is buggier and greedier than The Sims franchise in ways you can't even begin to imagine. EA has been reusing the same code for all FIFA games for almost a decade to the point that bugs from 2015 are still present in 2024 edition, but they sell it every year like a new game with just slightly updated graphics and the support doesn't give 2 shts about complaints. They profit +1bi every year from selling player cards for their online mode and because of that they literally don't care about anything other than selling cards to videogame addicts.
I think the team are getting desperate hence the battle pass system, their engagement is down. Sad that this could have been avoided if they had just listened to the player base!!!

I was holding out hope EA might get better until a Sim Guru tried to gaslight the internet by insinuating anyone with complaints about Sims 4 just doesn’t understand the gaming industry. You can pull that shit on the people who only play the sims franchise and no other video games but any avid gamer can see through that bullshit. I’ve worked middle management positions, I understand many of the issues we have are above most employees’ pay-grades but to try and place blame on consumers for your broken product is inexcusable
My guess: A lot of TS4 employees got moved to Project Rene. Project Rene is in development hell (guessing because Sim Guru Grant left after being on Sims since TS3 so like for him to quit when he loves the franchise, and has a family to support, is a big red flag imo). Then TS4 got all these bugs because too many employees got moved away from it, so now they're rebuilding some of the staff that TS4 lost and should have had the whole time in the first place, because they need to keep TS4 healthy and going because they don't know what's gonna happen with Project Rene.
Real question: Why do I have a cart to purchase pack in my game and no option to report bugs directly in game ?
I'm honestly shocked that they HAVEN'T been using directx 11 in the game, it was originally released in 2010 so it's been available the entire duration of the sims 4, and the fact that it's been working without it all these years is more impressive to me tbh, i want to know exactly what they were using before now
if they had instead updated it to directx 12 it would be a bigger deal and would improve performance much more on modern hardware, for reference directx 11 came out a week after windows 7...

And for an idea of how old DirectX9 is (which is what Sims 4 uses), The Sims 2 used DirectX9 which came out a full decade before Sims 4 and it was playable on Windows 98.
I imagine why they went for DirectX9 for Sims 4 was to make the game more compatible with lower end hardware of the time. At launch, the game was literally compatible with Windows XP, a 13 year old operating system at the time that had already been discontinued.

I definitely feel it's changing for the worse. I started feeling that way even since My Wedding Stories came out, but by the time they made game free, it just feels like everything they've done or added to the game is ruining the game. I remember back in the day, at the very least I was able to play the game without the game crashing on me
My game crashed at least 5 times today doing simple stuff! I put a house I built in the world. Crashed. Entered CAS. Crashed. Exit CAS. Crashed. Yes... Yes.. much "better".
as a person with just around a thousand hours on just the sims 4, the last pack i bought was cottage living. didnt even buy the horses. theyre not getting my money until theyve earned it or i wont play at all.
Same. I bought cottage living and very shortly after started to refuse launching my game if the internet was on. Forced updates were also ruining the game and I didn't want a number of the changes anyway. I hate that things we've purchased can be changed without prompting or choosing.
I went into my save today and noticed a much faster response in everything but the build mode was a bit laggy when switched to. I really want to try the DirectX 11 option but am scared to break mods. AND to be fair, my mods are way more important to me than being EA´s beta testers ;P
I just love how in the patch notes, it says they're finally giving the game DirectX 11 support, when we already have DirectX 12 way afterwards.

There is a lot of silly bugs in a lot of packs. For example we still cant complete weight loss goal as new year resolution. In university pack we lose the progress of student organization if we change playable household.
Cannot play with infants correctly. A lot of their things both in cas and bb are missing too. I wonder how much more in my game is missing... Interactions between sims is still slow, and I had to struggle with my current sim actually getting to classes on time since the game wants to lagg the interaction to go anywhere.
I literally can't play it anymore. Everytime I go to play it I have to log back into my steam account then my ea account and have to go through so many steps.
I was just playing it for the past 3 days. Now I have to sign in again. I'm done with the game

Minus the Steam step, same, I have to log in to EA every time, and my sims 4 shortcut no longer works, but that was as of about a month ago. Annoying!
i had to uninstall and reinstall the EA app to get it to work, but it stopped working when i tried to use it again after turning off my pc...
My mods , saves, and tray files are not being read despite re enabling mods and script mods. The options ini. will not save my setings. I have deleted it and let the game generae a new one, it still is broken and I'm so pissed

About what you said about EA not owning life sims, they basically do, technically they don't but nobody can have the interaction system the sims franchise uses as EA has that patented. I really don't see how any life sim game can actually exist without such a system.
they also patented the CAS system of dragging the sims' features, so every other game will have to use sliders...

@@bookcat123 if you look up "sims 4 direct manipulation" the Google patent page should come up (youtube removes comments with links, otherwise i would link it, the patent number is US10275947B2), basically they patented the ability to distort the mesh by dragging on certain parts of the mesh, and zooming in and out to change different parts of it (eg selecting the body vs the face)

this is one of my biggest peeves oh my god. if you have a good pc that can perfectly run every other game but you're having issues with the sims 4, the issue is the sims 4. why is that so hard for some people to understand!
Yeah, I work with multiple softwares at once, with Photoshop sucking almost 20GB of RAM while I have DaVinci Resolve on another screen working just fine and a browser with 100+ tabs open and Lightroom just chilling in a 3rd screen (none of this is exaggeration, I actually work like this lol) and my computer does this no problems. But sure, its the same computers fault that it runs a 10+ year old game with mobile graphics poorly and sounding like a rocket about to exit Earth. The amounts of cope these EA stans have is unbelievable.
my PC runs THE SIMS 3 almost perfectly with no lag. Not the sims 4 though...which was supposed to be optimized and easy for every computer
@@laser__unicornyup on mine I run adobe premiere pro eating RAM and a windows virtual machine in cohesion mode but yet sims lags and I play vanilla. Nothing else lags 😩
The gittering shadows, I think can be fixed if you uncheck and recheck the dynamic lighting option in the other option tab. 4:28
It does seem strange that they're investing so much in TS4 now. Makes you wonder whether Project Rene is actually going to happen at all.
Some people said they are using Sims 4 as a test cow. Meaning feautures they want to put in project rene they are trying out on sims 4 which seems plausible tbh
Course it is. The Sims 4 is nearing end of life so the devs have to act like they care so people get the impression the devs are finally stepping up, so they have hope that Project Rene will have the same treatment. They know they f’ed up with the Sims 4 in which they even stated themselves, which would absolutely hurt the sales of Project Rene. Once it’s out, they’ll start being their lazy, greedy selves themselves but probably 10x worse considering the new ‘daily rewards’ feature which will probably end up being like a battle pass feature in the future where you have to pay for certain tiers, (if it’s not already).
I don’t know, they don’t have a very good track record 🤷🏻♀️

reason i hate battle pass you buy a game then you have buy a game feaure aswell plus if you game now or 10 years everyone bought the same game everyone should have same stuff if its now or in 10 years all should have the same features.

this is why monopolies are dangerous and competition is always better for the consumer. they always had the ability to step it up, they just never had to. mattel, the toy company does this same thing with barbie dolls, the quality drops all the time until some other doll company springs up for 5 minutes and makes mattel bring their a game again.

My game is constantly bugging with the new update. Everytime I play in live mode and do a couple of things, Sims 4 just freezes and I cant click on anything anymore. I can still click on UI stuff but like saving or going in to the world mode, it will just keep loading. If i pause the game, it looks like it still is playing normally.
To find the new items you go in special gifts and press all colors :) love the new trash can

Since the update, my save file no longer works right (the cc doesn’t show up on my Sims, meaning I’d need to edit every single Sim again, remember what I put on them etc) so I had to start a new save file 🙈
Edit: also my Sims hunger doesn’t seem to be going down 🤔 a bit annoying as I like to eat food in the game

My game with Direct X 11 got much more laggy, its awful, and I have high end computer that was running sims 4 smooth like butter with the maximum graphic capability for this game, so no change or improvement there, except there is much more lags... grrr💀whats cool is that it is optional, but unfortunately they will release more details on futur release means, if you play with directX 9, you wont have them. I hope they tunned it to work with modern powerful graphic card, cause 💀
i tried the dx11 and it made my gaming laptop overheat which was disappointing- hoping its because its a preview?
Yes, most of the lags when entering build/buy or when exiting camera after taking photos are now gone! It makes the game much more enjoyable actually.
I experienced more crashes 😭 Why. It stopped every 30 minutes, freezing for about a minute after an update
i've seen comments on other videos from people saying the some of the patches didn't even work. At this point I'm done with the sims. I'll keep playing with what I already own, but I'm not spending another cent on the sims. I'll go to one of the competitors when they all come out

finally tried dx11 and my jagged edges are gone. i had anti-aliasing settings maxed out in nvidia control panel and it never worked before

The performance got worse on both versions for me on all my machines. 3 gaming rigs and it is wildly unstable on all of them.

I have DirectX 12 installed... Not sure what to think about it... they are a bit outdated? Or maybe they can try to do that with the Dx12 too.
One of the things on their "laundry list" for this update was that plants that were out of season will no longer have weeds. That didn't happen, as my out of season plants still have weeds. However, the other plants have not randomly reverted to piles of dirt if they weren't already like that, BUT most of them aren't producing harvestables. Usually only one of them per day is producing. They obviously messed with it, but (as usual) it looks like they just made it worse. I would rather have weeds on my out of season plants than not get harvests from my in season plants. (I hope I explained that right lol)
Also even after this update, when playing in my game, It now does this weird 2 minute pause thing and then it will GO again. What is that about?? So I am thinking the update had something to DO with this. Which means YET ANOTHER BUG as if we did not HAVE enough already. GREAT! 👎DID NOT need NOT need ANOTHER darned BUG!

Anothhjer unpopular opinion: I think paralives will be a very cute and fun game, but I do not think it will be any where near the same level as the sims. It like comparing 'club penguin' to The Sims. .antother unpopular opinion I think 'life by you' is gonna be a paradox train wreck and we all need to except that.

Clearly, EA and the Sims 4 team thinks otherwise about Life by You, Paralives, Inzoi, Afterlife, Vivaland, and all the other games coming out in the next year or so.
They're scrambling to keep their consumers base, (their PAYING ones who can afford all the DLC's and have good computers to run them on, not the people who want everything free, can barely buy any packs and have old laptops). If things don't improve for the Sims 4, EA and the Sims franchise won't have to worry about Project Renee because they won't have a fanbase to support it and that won't go too well with investors. Don't be surprised if EA ends up selling this franchise if Project Renee is a bust.

DX11 is a godsend and I am extremely thankful for it. It’s not DX12 or Vulkan but I’ll take it

@@OKBoomer2k No, I found this applies with or without CC enabled and I see overall improvements using 11. DX11 is a much newer, more refined rendering engine compared to DX9, so it should be more efficient and quicker to respond no matter the situation. DX9 came out in the original Xbox era (2002), DX11 is on par with Xbox One (2009).
I should note I do mod dev and publish on CurseForge and have been going back and forth between DX9 and 11 render engines for debug reasons - and my content at least seems to be unaffected by the change in the two engines. That said, I have also seen people speak to performance losses when using DX11 on Answers HQ, but I don't have this issue (it seemed to center around Nvidia GPUs, I use AMD).
It's hard for me to measure directly but I will say things like program launch, lot load-in, build mode/live mode switching, pan and zoom with the camera - these all feel far more rapid and fluid, and it's as if the "frame to frame pacing" (what we see as stutter and lag in game) has been improved considerably.
Being a Karen would be demanding something that you are not entitled to, but asking for the game that you paid for to work and be fun I’d say is bare minimum

The shadow thing is less a bug and more an optimization design decision with which you disagree, Satch. And you know what? Fair enough. I think you should have an option to have the game recalculating shadows as frequently as you want, frankly. The reason they changed it, though, was deliberate: it was to relieve pressure on the rendering thread.
Okay but the medium settings has the smooth movements of the shadows. Going to high and past that causes the jitter.

The look and aesthetics of The Sims4 is good. The problem is all of those old and new bugs.

Im glad more fixes have been made, I’m pretty sure they’ll start updating the Sims four as much as it needs to be once the sims 5 comes out, because maxis will be busy making expansion packs for that game so the sims 4 team will be free to work on updating and fixing bugs. At least that’s what I hope for.
Then it will kind of be the opposite of what happened with the Sims three heh.

YES. YES. THANK YOU SATCH. Thank you for bringing up EA Sports and those goddamn lootboxes! This whole 'battlepass' thing to me feels like a step towards a similar gambling mechanic. "Pay $5 and get a surprise Sims object! What recolor will you unlock today?" It also incentivizes players to log in EVERY DAY. This is right out of EA's secret addiction playbook...they want to keep people CONSTANTLY engaged. Fully addicted to their product, dripfed on tiny rewards. Like rats hitting a button for occasional pellets.
I have yet to update my game. This game has been slowly killing my optimism 😢
To be honest I think the expansion pack is going to be a flop. I think it'll be more like a game pack than expansion. What really can they add to make it a expansion?

Yeah they should be scared! I love the Sims. I’m nostalgic towards it. I’ve been a fan since I was single digit age. But it’s not fair for me / us to play a game that I / we spent hard earned money on that has all these bugs sometimes it’s unplayable and isn’t even the best out of the best of the games on offer. Not to mention I don’t like how greedy EA is getting. They want more money for less content.
The Sims is iconic but they never had to worry about competition before and that’s why.
As much as I love them I would leave for a better performing game with more in depth content,
But the sims and Maxis the team behind it all, will always have a place in my heart.

A couple years ago I probably would've been more hopeful, but off the heels of Colossal Order's apology for Cities: Skylines II, in which they specifically cited major complaints people had with the game, this apology for The Sims 4 feels too little too late at best, and pure optics at worst.

Idk if this is a popular or unpopular opinion but the high school years pack should let you customize your finals, quarters/semesters, football, and prom.. As well as letting you choose from EVERY teen in that game who you want to go to the playable lot. Idk customization for the events would be better Imo
If they get rid of this team then there is literally no way they could ever come back with TS4 or any other Sims title they make, right now they have a VERY small chance they will be able to keep/gain players as they go on but that can only happen if they actually stick to their guns this time and not their wallet, but unless they realize that by actually fixing things and spending money on this would help them in the long run they will probably throw away their only real hope of staying in the Life Sim gerne.
I personally am excited for when Life By You comes out because from what I know it will be easy for plebs like me to make my own mods for my games in particular, Idc that they've delayed it so many times because I'm a FNaF fan and we had to wait almost an entire decade for the movie to come out, I can wait some more.
