Then again if Markus leads a violent protest he will be a huge wanker.
Would you be willing to shelter a SS nazi if you lived in 1945 and they were on the run?
It's more like, would you be willing to shelter a German family who had nothing to do with Nazi atrocities if you lived in 1945 and they were on the run from Russians, who were angry because their evil leaders did bad things? There are amazing, kind people who have people from their own culture, race and religion who do evil things and they have to deal with the consequences of their evil counterpart's actions. It's never an excuse to have a family murdered because one of their own people did bad things.
The thing about your point though, is that deviance is not an issue. It simply means they've became the equivalent of a human. It is never acceptable to find a family of any species or race who have never done anything bad and gun them down. That is the fact. The guard is evil because he does this. And if the Germans would have known about the Final Solution they never would have elected him, and that said he was a liar, he tricked them out of anger and hatred from Versailles.

If Markus had done a violent attack, the border guard would have had them shot. Markus's actions determined how the officer was going to respond.

in my point of view, the three main androids represent a classic but strong type of character in stories:
markus: the rebel who wants freedom and fights for what he believes but he doesn't want war, only justice, and freedom for him and for his people.
connor: the soldier who continuously follows the rules and makes sure that the rules are obeyed and followed, however at some point he realizes that sometimes certain rules or orders must be disobeyed to do what is right, so he starts a new path of "redemption" fighting against the ones he once obeyed, trying to make the world a better place and help people (and in this case android) to have a better life.
kara: the protector who fights for love, the one who does everything in her power to protect and take care the ones she loves, the one who follows her heart and only wants the best for the ones around her, even if sometimes she has to dirt her hands a little, the one who earns the respect and love of the ones around her by her actions and her strong will.
3 great kinds of great characters (that usually are complex, full of emotions and that develop over time), all represented in this game. even though the characters can vary depending on the choices you make in the game, I think that they were made to fulfill the 3 kinds of personalities that i mention and they did it damn well.

"even though the characters can vary depending on the choices you make in the game, I think that they were made to fulfill the 3 kinds of personalities that I mention..." with that I meant that they won't necessarily be or represent the kind of characters that I described, but I thought that maybe they were done in such a way that they could perfectly become and fulfill the kind of characters I mentioned, considering that the game is focused on how the androids change and develop emotions and how they change to be more human-like, Connor stays obeying the rules only if you play in a way that he stays "machine" without feeling and doing everything to fulfill his mission, on the other hand, the game (despite the many options and changes that can occur thanks to the choices that you can make in the game) is about the struggle of machines to be more human, so if you play connor in a more human way, he ends up representing the kind of character I mentioned before, you are right that the characters won't necessarily be like i describe in my previous comment, but they also can be that way if you humanice them and make them "human".

This entire scene shows me how EVERY decision, across all three characters stories matter. That border control guy who is truely a hero in this story; wouldn’t have let them through it Markus wasn’t conducting a peaceful protest on the camp.

That's called no choice. I think if you were them, you too want to survive. So if it's the only way to survive.. if you want to live of course you should do it.

Because sometimes there’s no choice. Either you die and let those people cross or steal the tickets and those people will be income inconvenienced. Life isn’t black and white.

Either way, I like to think that this scene is reflective of how people's empathy can be a powerful force of nature.

I have to admit I cried in this scene. When I first played Detroit in this scenario it was only Kara and Alice left, Luther was dead. And when I slowly moved forward i was given the option to sacrifice myself or don't. I chose not to because I didn't want to leave Alice by herself.
So when I went down to the immigration officer and he scanned Kara, she suddenly just said "please... we just want to be free" and the officer looked up at the TV seeing how Marcus was peacefully protesting and sacrificing himself when the officer let us through, then all of a sudden I started crying.
I was trying to go for the good ending with everyone alive, which I failed with Luther, Simon and others except the main 3. But all the hard choices I made and the mistakes I did even though I seriously wanted to have Marcus attack back. It all somehow paid off in the end and seeing just a little mercy through all the hardships just made me tear up bad.
Detroit is a damn good game for me. It doesn't matter about any negative reviews this might have gotten. People should play it at least once in their lives.

Oh i swear i lost many years of life by how stressed this game made me throughout the entire playthrough
I'm always shedding tears when I hear her say "it's over alice, we're free". As if it erupts from the bottom of her heart, but also very serene at the same time.
I was so stressed in this part of the game, i felt guilty to steal the ticket, i thought that they would die on the border but when i heard "welcome to canada" i started to cry like a child, i liked so much the trio and i was so happy for them. Man this game was amazing
This was so much like Mass Effect trilogy experience but so much more detailed in every choice, there are so many ways to fail if you want to save the androids. I picked up this old game recently and I only recently could save them all

gummibearsdance, Unfortunately I think you do. I think if you don't steal the tickets you end up stealing a boat and trying to illegally cross the border however you sustain a way higher chance of people dying.
Steven Vu, I know they have a baby which is unfortunate, however what would really happen to them, maybe catch a cold? The army would get them temporary accommodation since they're human. Image what would happen to Kara, Luther and Alice in comparison, they would all be killed the second they were discovered to be Androids.
They're humans. There's a high possibility that they won't die for losing their bus tickets. That's still some money of course.
If you don't steal the tickets, Luther is guaranteed to be dead.

I had to let Kara have her happy ending with Luther & Alice. Her story was my favourite in the game since they all just wanted to be free and to be a family. 😄
i like her story, but i often go "oh ffs" when i started playing the Kara missions. Connors plot was way better imo since the chemistry of him and Hank is the best in the game for me

Holy crap, Valorie Curry is an incredible actress. Compared to the bravery of Connor and Markus, she really captures the fear that Kara has. She isn’t a fighter like the other two but her love for Alice keeps her going no matter what.

It first tells you the story of all the three main characters and eventually makes them meet and impact each other's storylines so much.
I wish more games would put Canada in the story of the games. I love this, I hope there is part two.

Why does it always have to be Canada, the "promised land"? Like can't it be somewhere else? Like don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome that they reached Canada, but sometimes I think they could've just changed it to like going to a different U.S state or something like, "welcome to New York", or "welcome to Montana" or something. But it's whatever I guess.
@@Danthegamer68 It doesn't really make sense-- she would still be in the US, which is cracking down on androids everywhere. It was even stated at some point in the game. Going to Canada makes more sense, not because it's a "promised land" but because A) Detroit is literally across the river from Canadian borders so it's convenient, B) it's a different country that could care less about androids, so there are no laws regarding them and they can live freely. Neither New York nor Montana border Michigan, where Detroit is located.

I feel bad for Todd though. He lost his jobs because of the androids and since he lost his job his wife left him for a new man I think a office worker and she took his daugther with her. He tried replacing his family with androids so he got into serious debt and became a drug addict.

That ending is what makes Quantic Dream amazing. The first playthough I lost Kara, Alice and Luther in the attack on Jericho. I replayed the game again with the sole purpose of making sure Kara, Alice and Luther made it. The whole border checkpoint section had me on the edge of my seat, getting misty. I didn't want to sacrifice anybody and I was practically begging at the screen for the border agent to let them through.
I was glad that the security understood what androids felt
