    So you have to replace it with an inner snap ring type right? I'm about to do my 91 k1500. 230,000 miles I think it's time.

    Man. Wish i had the shop and tools for this. Mine is waaay on its way out. Will map gas be hot enough to melt the suckers out? This is going to have to be in the parking lot of advanced oreilly zone, or whoever has the parts 🙄.

      It might be but it would take you a long time

      Welp, center support went ahead and kicked the bucket just now, was able to limp it to a parts store. Map gas kit is in the truck, so are the tools, so i guess this is the rest of my saturday. Wish is wasn’t as hot as the devil’s taint outside right now, at a new built parts store w no trees, and no clouds in the sky 🤦🏻.

      You don’t need to use the u joint puller as long as you don’t bend the ears.

      @@williec4190 then mine have been changed before cause I had the outer retainer clips. I was so happy cause I don't have a torch😂 I put some moog with metal retainers inner and outer. Did it in the advance auto parking lot. Used the ball joint press. Driveshaft had a crack in it. But the new u joints compensate pretty well. Itll last till I can find a junkyard with a better example.

      Yeah Morty sounds like the hard work was done!! Nice!! My 93 chevy Cheyenne had the factory u joints. Just used a propane torch on them, took a little longer but not to Bad👍👍👍👍 Glad to hear everything worked out with your truck!

    • @kyleholling1999
      @kyleholling1999  Před 4 lety +1

      Yea buddy he’s right. If it’s between those years it’s got factory sealant inside the lip of the yoke (where your snap ring sits) that you have to melt to be able to remove the worn u-joint. Glad you got it figured out!!

    I'm too cheap for a torch I build a fire in my fire pit and melt them out that way

      Man, I just replaced all my u-joints w the aftermarket u-joints w/ the “half circle” clips. Now my truck vibrates...
      funny thing is it didn’t do it before I replace them... Both shafts have teeth that make it fit only one way, I looked at all the U joints and made sure all the clips were secured and there was no play in them. I also got them greased! What could it be?

    • @kyleholling1999
      @kyleholling1999  Před 3 lety +1

      @@kyergilreath2130 possible bent or unbalances shaft. Go get it balanced. It’s also possible one of the yoke ears got damaged or bent.
