    Boris is class. Best drummer. Saw him in supermarket in Bath when working at music mags - in awe - wife noticed. Kindly gave an autograph! Top beats and tight drummer.

    Best "Cure" drummer? That is an understatement. Boris is arguably the best Rock/Pop drummer to come out of the 1980's, period. He is legendary in the music industry. He is highly respected by his peers for being a world class studio percussionist.

    Boris was the best Cure drummer hands down. I have a ton of respect for Jason, but he's robotic in his playing whereas Boris plays on heart and instinct. Boris' drumming has a more free flowing, natural feel to it where Jason feels as though he's playing in a lock box.

    Boris was the perfect drummer for The Cure and the best in the band's history. Perfect match! Everything changed when he and Porl/Pearl departed. The long drum patterns, the good drum sound, the great intros like WCIBY, IBD, Torture, JLH, etc) were gone forever.
    I heard this interview some years ago on Soundcloud and I couldn't be more happy as to hear Boris is very rare occurrence. Thanks for sharing.

    As a long-time Cure fan and also being a drummer myself, this was great to listen to. Thank you very much! 😀👍 And I can't remember having read or listened to an interview with Boris before either! Still my favourite of all the Cure's drummers 😊 *PS:* It would be reeeally cool to hear a similar thing with Simon Gallup one day, too! I've always wondered how he'd gotten into bass-playing and how he'd developed his style 😀

    He's very soft spoken..... you'd never think he was with how hard he played those drums.
    I do think he's the best The Cure ever had, but as a long time Cure fan, I have to say Jason is good too. Obviously, if Jason wasn't good, Robert wouldn't have hired him.

    • @djscott9207
      @djscott9207 Před 11 měsíci +4

      Maybe he's cheap? I think Jason is good and I enjoy his playing in conjunction with Simon. Today, he deserves more credit. He is a live drummer. He and Simon can put a lockdown on a song like nobody's business---a highly respected, world class rhythm section. Boris, on the other hand, is certainly more technical and innovative for studio work with impeccable timing, lending a great deal of character to the music. He is an ambitious risk taker and plays with finesse, something not normally found in Rock music. My impression is he and Porl were not challenged enough (i.e. restrained) and really didn't like the direction Robert wanted to take the band with Wild Mood Swings, so left. Robert likes what he likes. Maybe the Lol fiasco had something to do with it too. Who knows?

    • @SimonRobeyns
      @SimonRobeyns Před 5 měsíci

      Jason's a great player too, i do believe he comes off worse on videos, I saw them live twice and he played marvelously each time
      It just sounds a bit more flat and less '80's' than the wild and thunderous Boris did because of the period as well@@djscott9207

      He may hit them hard BUT not too hard that he tries to take over - like most drummers (for some strange unmusical reason?)
