That's exactly WHY most captchas nowadays feature street sign as well as other stuff you'll find in traffic. With every captcha we're improving the algorythm that powers self driving cars.

Well jokes aside, it looks at a lot more than your mouse movement. For starters, it checks if you checked the box dead centre or not. Also, the checkbox isn't really a box, it's more like an image, so the bots can't scrap the button.

Cause text to speech softwares existed for decades! There are solutions for blind people (and other sight related problems) to let them use a computer.
On Mac (Voice over) & Windows (Narrator, I think), iOS & Android natively have those kind of softwares. It works at least for the os and contents inside a browser, I dont think apps have an automatic support though.

Zayd Menk It would probably have to be scripted in a perpetual algorithm. Or not, lol, idk, I thought about this too. It still probably wouldn't get past the cookies check barrier, even if the robot shakes like it has anxiety :P
It would need to use either a random or procedural script to draw the shaky motion. The difference between the two is that procedural generation takes into account multiple factors and its own previous actions. It would also have to be a bot that has a site visiting script as well, that replicates the browsing habits of a person. They've made it so that it's impractical to design a bot, that can pass their otherwise simple defense.
Same concept people use to make videogames' legit looking aimbots.

Hey Linus! Earlier this month Google updated their no-captcha reCaptcha system to allow developers to use an invisible captcha instead of even checking the box. So now it's kind of "no no captcha". I was just working on a website today when I noticed it and then you published this video.

Sometimes, captcha makes me wonder if I am really a human.
The old CAPTCHA mechanism also crowdsourced people to help confirm unrecognizable OCR texts as well. When enough people say the same thing for a certain text, the answer will be accepted. That's why some of the CAPTCHA's look like small words scanned from a physical book.

I think the program was called reCAPTCHA, and they used it for books too
You know on some captcha it would have what looked like a number plate on the front of a house? Google took samples from all of the captcha responses and used them to figure out what numbers were written on the signs
so it would recognize numbers and letters, but simply have people do it, but have lots of people do it to make sure it's the right answer. but it would still check your answers compared to others to make sure that you are human.
This is why I always try to slip in a wrong number or letter. If everyone does this, Google can't to shit the the "information".
Linus, you missed the crowd sourcing bit! Captchas are also being used to teach computer learning systems to improve image recognition as well as OCR for things like street view on maps for more accurate address plotting.

Google used for years and is still using reCAPTCHA to train their own AI. Like when you have to select all images with a car or with a traffic light. You are actually solving problems where the AI is in doubt. This especially applies to google Maps. This was a very smart move to me

But the really tough ones are the changing picture tiles which you have to keep clicking on till you guessed them all (street signs, cars, store fronts, etc).

What if you have one of those old computers that use the arrow keys as mouse movements? Or your trackpad doesn't work so you use the tab key?
Also, to rebut an idea I came up with, even if a robot moves their mouse at random, they seed the randomness with the computer time. Because of this, it is possible, with a very complex algorithm, to tell if it was randomised by a robot or human.

In Roblox, I recreated Captcha by making a model that makes it so that:
-It gives you a randomized code that you have to type in.
-After that, it tells you to click the Verify button then hit Submit Verification.
I made it give you a randomized code you have to type in cause the maker of the spambots can't make it so that the spambots get the code right.

I just turned 30 and I remember using Alta Vista for searches LoL. My VPN allows me to add know/safe sites to it along with apps on my phone. I haven't had a captcha come up for me when I use it. Interesting 🤔 My biggest issue that I face is clickbots clicking on my ads multiple times to make it look like there's a lot of interest.
