    Those early pre 1987 M9's that had issues with frame cracking were at the +30,000 round count. In other words they had been used past their recommended service life. Navy Seals are great at breaking things.

    I first carried the M9 in 1999 when my unit was deployed to East Timor. On my 2nd ship I was the best shot for the 4 years I was onboard, same thing with my last ship, best shot before I retired. Recently I bought a M9 which needs to go to the range and get some rounds put through it.

    I also bought Beretta 9mm when Martin Riggs duel wielded them in Lethal Weapon. I bought the "FS" model and it was my first gun purchase ever. I still have it and only changed the grips to a more comfortable rubberized grip. Excellent gun. It's so reliable and easy to shoot that it's almost not fun because I already know how it will respond... perfectly.

  • @jarkoer
    @jarkoer Před 7 lety +1

    The first pistol I shot when I became an adult. The only problems I ever had with it was when Navy Security issued me a beat-up M9 that the armorer hadn't cleaned properly would lead to stove-pipes or failure to go into battery. (They would issue the weapon at "The House" before we went on watch, so there was no opportunity to clean it myself.) Also dropping magazines on the ground constantly for years (speed reload drills) led to the butt plate on one of my magazines to pop off and spill my rounds all over the deck. But as for my own 92FS, it has been consistently reliable and highly accurate. The only "break in period" the gun needs is to smooth out the trigger pull. Other than that, it's good right out of the box.

    The M9/92 doesnt do very well in water/muck tests, but they do shoot pretty well. I never could get used to the grip being as wide as it is, but it is a decent pistol. You can get some really good deals on them now with all the wonder polymer guns making up most of the market. I wish they would have stayed with the original design that allowed for cocked and locked carry with a thumb safety like the 1911. That was a cool gun.

    very true, you never have to worry about jams with revolvers, but as long as you clean down your automatic properly, the odds of a jam (especially with the M9) are so low. I just really like the 15+1, 17+1, and 32+1 capacities that I get with this weapon, because I double tap a lot, and it's just an added peace of mind

    • @shananagans5
      @shananagans5 Před 10 lety +4

      The only advantage the smaller & lighter guns have is they are easier if you carry every day. Full sized guns shoot better. The extra weight reduces felt recoil making follow up shots faster & the longer barrel increases velocity a bit. I don't understand this smaller = better mentality. For a carry gun yes, smaller has advantages but if it's for home defense or range fun a full sized gun shoots & feels better.

    • @ric66fb
      @ric66fb Před 10 lety

      shananagans5 .... I carry my M9 everywhere with no complaints although having said that it's the only one I've ever carried so have nothing to compare it with. I conceal carry and always wear a shirt loose outside my pants and it hides fine there. I've put around 3000 rnds through it without one blockage unlike my pal who takes his 1911 to the range and it hang up sometimes 3/4 times. I'll never part with this M9, yeah it's big but it just felt right in my hand from day one.

    • @shananagans5
      @shananagans5 Před 10 lety

      Richard Jarvis I carry mine too. I am a woman & it's easy to carry under a skirt with a drop leg holster.
      Back in the 90s I had a Sig 226 & my friend had an M9 & we shot every month while we were in school. It was rare to miss a month & we shot 100 or 150 rounds depending on budget. We both put new springs in our guns but neither had any real problems for the ten years we were in school. We figure we had a minimum of 12,000 & probably closer to 15,000 rounds through our guns. A few years after his locking block broke but that is a $30 part & easy to install. My understanding is Beretta has improved the locking blocks too.

    • @RedNosePitbullMT45
      @RedNosePitbullMT45 Před 9 lety

      Richard Jarvis I have a glock 26 and i would never carry the m9 having that thing and a glock 30s to carry they are both so small i dont even notice i am carrying anything sometimes - that being said i have an m9 and im seriously thinkg about getting rid of it because it is so big - but i figure i have three carry guns so whats so bad about having another full size range gun

    • @ric66fb
      @ric66fb Před 9 lety

      RedNosePitbullMT .... Different strokes for different folks as they say.
      I find my M9 a comfortable gun to carry but then open carry is legal in SD too so it doesn't matter that much if it's spotted but if it didI'd probably go for something a little smaller.

    I had a 92FS not long ago, and the pins on the right side of the safety lever started working loose when I'd fire it. Beretta never had any in stock and I was told to contact the nearest authorized service center by the Beretta rep when I contacted them about the availability of the pins. The local service center rep said to bring in the frame, and I reminded him that the safety lever is on the slide. He said "Then we can't help you..." then hung up. I don't care how wonderful a pistol Beretta 90 series may be, I'll never own another one.

      Stephen Maurer And I love it Cat-Dog.
      Yes, it is big for a 9mm. Yes, it is a bit heavy. But who cares?
      Keep it cleaned and lubed and it will never jam.
      Ignore the two dot sight system and just line up the posts (equal height, equal light) and you will hit the bull's eye every time. The lines are as appealing as a twenty year old girl in a bikini. Sometimes I lay it on the table next to my Walther P08 and marvel at how the Italians improved that innovative German design.
      A keeper for any collection.

    @Primeda I concur, It has alot to do with the firearm that you are shooting the 45 ACP from. Military 1911's are very smooth, and I think that It's very controllable. I always took my M9 on watch. Before I joined the Navy one of my fellow recruits and I tried out the M9 to get some practice before bootcamp. I also rented us a 1911. I always wanted to shoot both. To be honest the trigger of the 1911 is far superior to the M9 with it barely-need to pull. However after earning my Expert 9mm ribbon the M9 has grown on me and I was taught how to make the double-action trigger work for me.
    Call me crazy but I consider the M9 to be the AK47 of 9mm. Awesome review and HOOYAH!

      Thank you for your service I went into the Navy in 1982 and retired in 2003 I used the 38 spl revolver 1911a1 and the m9 I was a cook with a side job as a gunnersmate guns. lol along time ago the reason the 1911 trigger is a little better is because its a single action where the M9 is a double action it has more to do ! LOL i managed to get my sharpshooter ribbon missed expert by 1 lousy point using both the 1911 and the M9 requalified before retirement the very old LSD i was on used the 38's we had both some Smiths and Rugers I used all 3 on watch at one time or another. the long trigger pull didnt bother me too much on the m9 because i sooo used to the revolvers. I shoot competatively in IDPA and i use the revolver as my primary Thanks for listening to a old man relive the past shakes ur hand

      I carried a 1911 for about 11 years..It was extremely reliable but in truth I couldn't hit anything past 25 yards.
      I had the opportunity to shoot a Beretta at our range and the 9mm was extremely accurate; I would prefer it in a combat situation!

    Hague Convention, not the Geneva Convention deals with types of ammunition used by the military.

    Get video,, did any of the spent shells eject back towards you? I have shot M92's that had a tendency to throw the spent shell back towards me.
