Stop practicing your serve in isolation, add the next shot!
Here I use a rebound target but you can use a hitting partner, ball machine or even self feeds (shown at the end of the video!)

Thanks now I just need to learn how to place my serve 😂
Haha… practicing like I did helps (I missed quite a few!!)
Yes please .. A return plus one video would be great. Thanks
Thanks for the video! I’ll add to the chorus of those being interested in your return+1 pattern descriptions.
🙏🙏
Ash, Serve + 1 is a new training routine to me. Have to grab those boards and have a go. Looks fun. Thanks, Phil
Would love to see the return plus 1, as someone who has a stronger return game than serve game.
Thanks Ash love this video!!
Glad you did David! Thanks for watching 😁
Really great video! It would be nice to have this kind of tactical videos assuming as well, that your backhand is your strongest shot. The slice serve pattern does not work as well when the ball comes back cross court 😅
been looking for more videos like this lately 🙌🏼
Amazing! thanks 🙏
Enjoyed this, will give it a try. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy
A video about returning a serve would be great!
I’ll work on it 😁
Outstanding video.
Thanks a lot Edmon 🤜
Yes! Waiting for the return+1 video!
My problem Is placing the serve and developing a first serve. I love how you said consistency means nothing if you don't have a serve but with my serve I just make sure to get it in every time with a slight slice and then focus the rally on being consistent lol. Im going to try and learn placement now to use these patterns
👌
Great performance! This is anything but easy.
Love to see a return +1!
Ohhh very useful !
Thanks Ashely for this amazing content !
🙏thank you my friend!
Thanks Ashley!
You’re welcome Javi 👍🙌
Great video! Yes for the return + 1
Ps where does one get those rebound targets?
Thanks for watching… here’s the link: targetboundsports.com/?ref=EWXi5qDBfptO
Good job
This really is brilliant and well explained.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
Great video! Love those boards where can you get them?
Definitely do a return +1 video!
I will work on it! Thanks for watching!
GOOOO ! Interested in return + 1 content too
Yes. I mostly play doubles and the serve and return is so much of the game...
Thank you for great videos. Your instructions are clear and simple to follow. My toss is inconsistent in terms of hight, place, point of release etc..Also, I can't seem to toss the ball without it spinning in the air. I have seen many videos that advice to keep the arm straight, no bending of joints etc.. and was wondering if you have a different remedy to this problem.
The most important thing is to avoid holding the ball in your palm. Learn to toss from the fingers. Imagine you are holding a cup or an icecream cone. That’s the way you should hold the ball if you want to have consistent toss. So just release your fingers from the cone/cup when your arm is up. You will still need to practice it to get used to it and toss in the right height and position, but you will see there is no spin on the ball when you do it this way. The spinning only happens when the ball touches your fingers after leaving your palm. If it’s released directly from fingers, there is no spin.
3:06 😂
Yes return plus 2 explanation please.
👍👍
During the lockdown a few years back I made my own rebound target out of wood I found in the garage with the intention of practicing volleys in my garden. It was about a meter square and and raised off the ground to simulate another player. After using it I realised that I should of built it much bigger as my volleying hit everything except the board :(
Hi Ashley, awesome video! Where can I get the rebound targets from?
Cheers👍
Thanks Grant, you can find them here: targetboundsports.com/?ref=EWXi5qDBfptO
How do you secure the rebound boards to stop them moving when they are hit ?
Nice. Do the return + 1 too 🙌🏼
Those rebound boards look cool. Do they sell those in the United States? Website seems to be UK only.
I believe they will be soon
Love the "Out. Come on" 😀
😎
I'm struggling with my first serve when playing double. I'm using the Kick serve or Slice serve for both of 1 and 2 serve. It's good for me when I play against the same level player, but it's a weakness with the higher level who can return my serve with very powerful shot. Any tips on that case?
Where did you buy those tennis wall rebound things?
I want to buy 2 and set it up the way you did.
Do you have an amazon link or something?
Yes, please provide a serve + one or two return video. Also, please add the link for you to get credit/money for when we purchase these Target boards, thank you so much!!!
Hi Ash. I am going to google these rebounders, for team mate training sessions. Thanks a lot for your input ❤ By the way i do love the Speed MP and the Speed Pro, what is your setup? Head Lynx? What tension on each? Thanks Mate.

Nice video! Where can I find rebound targets like that?
targetboundsports.com/?ref=EWXi5qDBfptO
Hey, what are those board things that you are targeting that return the ball??
PS i have got to the end of the video now and found the link, so no worries!
Those rebound boards are great. Never seen before.
They’re ideal!!
Hi Ash, would be fun a match between you and Felix. Cheers!
Would be fun for Felix 😅 I’ll think about it!
would definitely love a RETURN + 1 video. At my level, it feels I am are almost as likely to win a game on the return as i am serving.
Where can I buy those re-bounders?
Hey ! Where did you get those big targets ?
targetboundsports.com/?ref=EWXi5qDBfptO
Where can one buy the rebounder used in your video. Most rebounders online are just nets . The one in this video looks different
yes, please, make a return +1 video
this was supposed to stay kinda secret in order for us to keep our edge...😅
😬😬
Anyway we can get this in the US?
Yessssss
WEHRE TO YOU BUY THOSE REBOUNDERS?
@TheTennisMentor Yes please post a link or provide a product name for those. I've never seen them!
Sorry… added a link in the description now, here it is: targetboundsports.com/?ref=EWXi5qDBfptO
They’re great, here’s the link: targetboundsports.com/?ref=EWXi5qDBfptO
@@TheTennisMentorwhere do I buy the skills need to hit the rebounder?
Great content, excellent game standards !
Está bien eso ??
Funciona ??
Great video!! How to do it with a ball machine? Would love a video on returning
Probably just place the ball machine behind the place you are aiming your serve and set it to shot right after your shot lands
@@linusblomberg913 how does a ball machine know when a shot lands?
@@transklutz You just have to time it to shot like every 20 seconds and hold your serve to that timing.
@@linusblomberg913 kind of removes the feedback aspect, but ok
@@paulczerner3286 Why? set it up so when your serve lands it shoots, effectively working as a return.
Yes, return + 1 please
3:08 got to practise the line calls as well 😂
😆🤣
Where do you get those rebound targets
Target Bound (link in the description)
Where can you buy those rebound targets?
I think there is a link in the video description
Tennis sling is another good tool.
Can you make a Return+1 Video please
Can't find a hard rebound target panel in the US...
Bold of you to assume I can place my serve, AND place a following shot! 😂 No cheat codes for this guy
😂😂
3:08 hehe. Cmon against the board.
Gotta bring out the pump 🤣
Well...saying that practicing just the serve by itself is not a good thing assumes you have a solid, grooved serve motion. For those of us trying to improve our serve technique, reps and focus are crucial. I'll be sticking to my "just practicing the serve alone" for quite a while I'm afraid.
You’re right Doug, sometimes there IS a need to practice in isolation, maybe I was too harsh putting my point across… but I am a firm believer in making your training more realistic when you can. There is one thing you can do to make your isolated practice more realistic… add your split step/ready position afterwards 😊
@@TheTennisMentor hey that’s a great idea! I never thought of that.
Just to be clear-you don’t think there is much value in practicing your serving targets on they’re own with out the first ball? Regardless of level? That’s a hot take. But I see what you mean as well. Great video
It did sound like that when watching back… although I do stand by my view that practicing the next ball makes your serve practice more realistic and so better for your matchplay, there is a time and a place where practicing your serve alone can also be useful. I mentioned to someone else in the comments that if you really need to isolate the serve, try to add a split step afterwards to develop good habits! Thanks for watching and for your comment 😊
return +1 please.
👍
Holly smokes, thanks for showing this
Glad you liked it!
@@TheTennisMentor Where do you get these boards from. thanks
Dang, UK only at the moment 😢
I think they’re going international soon!
@@TheTennisMentor I REALLY hope so, I've tried a similar practice scenario with my Slinger bag, and the timing/feed never works out right. This is exactly what I want, price be damned! ;)
what level are these tips for cuz i don't have the accuracy to hit the targets consistently lmaoo
Good ideas, but putting the return shields too close will lead to absolutely wrong timing. You are wright, it's better to use a partner who can return well.
So, to put it short: just play matches.
Nothing’s better than matches for putting everything together but sometimes you need more volume, so practicing like I was can dial in your serve plus one!
Not many can do what you do in the video. You are just too good
I’m good alright… good at cutting out the bad shots 🧑💻😉
My biggest problem is my serve is brilliant when I practice and total crap in a match. HELP!!!
Do you practice the serve plus one? Or serve on its own? The more realistic you can make your serve practices, the easier it will be to transfer into matchplay…
Either add pressure to your practice (add targets and consequences) or reduce pressure in matches (not as easy!)
Would you be able to do any coaching? I’m near Chichester.
