    It’s stupid bc I’ve had friends in Australia move to America and England and there’s Spanish players going to Croatia at 14 and 100s of young Brazilians moving to Europe every year but when an English player goes abroad it’s inspiring and brave

      Historically, most that did play abroad failed quite spectacularly, or if they avoided that didn't achieve anything like the success they had domestically.

    I read in Sir Alex’s book, that Ince played his best when acting as a holding midfielder, which he did in his early years at United, hence the success. However in his later years his mentality changed, he wanted to keep darting forward out of position to score, instead of staying as pivot holding position. That’s why Fergie wanted rid of him. M

    In the last World Cup squad the only player who didn’t play in England was Fraser Forster at Celtic. Very few top english play abroad no idea why maybe just comfort in the epl as it’s what they know. Mcmananan, Lineker off the top of my head are most successful ones who moved over

    Young English players should try play abroad as a loan, and come back to the PL later on if that's what they want. Plenty clubs could use them and they can benefit too.

    I wouldn’t class America as abroad really, same language, similar way of life it’s not much of a culture shock. Didn’t know Crouchy played in Swedish 2nd division now that’s random and completely out your comfort zone. It’s so hard for us as English speakers, everyone makes it easy for us by knowing English already we have no reason to learn another language. Thankfully we are now seeing many English players going to mainland Europe to play.

    Fergie was under a bit more pressure in the 90s when United was a PLC in terms of funds. Building the training ground etc they looked at Paul and the offer and probably were too tempted but then SAF probably came to his senses on holiday. Too late. Not a big miss, but Ince was still top draw at the time. Stam was the bigger mistake..

      1.) English is a second language for most educated people all over the world
      2.) English fans are used to seeing foreign players. Italian/Spanish fans arent used to seibg English Players

      Watch the video - he went on loan to Sweden as a 17 year old to get some game time early in his career.
      He's spoken about it before - he wasn't physically strong enough to play up front in England at that age although he was still tall enough he'd be played as a target-man and be expected to win everything in the air.
      So he went to Sweden instead of dropping down a division and it allowed him time to develop properly - in the lower English league's he'd have been bullied out of the game.
