DIY Painted Brick Fireplace Makeover

  • Hello CZcams Friends! Welcome to another DIY paint tutorial! In today's video, I will be repainting my brick fireplace for an updated, warmer and richer look. Last year, I painted the original fireplace with a fresh, whitewash technique that was suitable for a French Country or Farmhouse look. However, after living with that look for over a year, I decided I wanted a change that complimented my furniture and home decor style a bit better. I found inspiration on Pinterest and started with that as my initial goal, which ended up changing later on. In this video, you'll not only see the painting process, step my step, but also the thought process I go through along the way.
    I hope you enjoy this video and that it inspires you to update something in your home using paint! Avoid a messy and expensive renovation project and try paint first! I am always amazed at how paint can transform any object for a new, updated look.

    So glad you changed and went to deeper warm colors...as soon as you did it changed the look to old world charm. It's just really BEAUTIFUL! Plus your mantle looks so rich now on the new brick color. Great job!

    Deborah, your new fireplace is just gorgeous! The transformation is much more warmer and blends better with the mantle. Not a fan of farmhouse and will be happy to see it faze out. It’s too cold and sterile for me. While you are correct that paint can make such a big difference, having your talented hand to guide it makes the finished product that much more beautiful. I think the painted brick color looks great as it compliments your fall decor on the mantle. I painted our red brick fireplace wall white trying to give it an old, whitewashed look. It looked PINK! I lightly applied more white to tone down the pink but it kept getting pinker, soooooo...I painted 3 heavy white coats so it’s all solid white. I really liked how it turned out. Not my original plan, but I love it. I, literally, laughed out loud at your new spider friends. Looking forward to more of your videos.

      Nova McCoy That has sometimes happened to me & I think the problem is blending too much, rather than layering - also has happened if I don’t let the colors dry before putting on another one - I’ve had to go back & sort of tap or pat the colors in again - so don’t feel all alone 😊

    So glad you went with the warmer look - I kept thinking that it needed to be more brownish to complement your flooring - looks really good now - I didn’t like the red brick, either & it just looks so much more authentic now - one little FYI, if I may - no offense - but KorBEL is a California sparkling wine & CORbel is what is under your mantel 😊And off topic, your lip & blush color look especially nice today & your skin is so glow-y looking !

    this video is very timely for me personally. I whitewashed a wall of bricks at my friend's house and neither one of us like it. We have been a little bummed not knowing what to do or not wanting to make it worse. but your video has given us the bravery to try some warmer colors adopting your attitude that we can always just paint it one color again if needed. I think the texture in the brick takes the paint so differently that it is more than just choosing a color you like. It is more challenging to get what our vision is in our minds to look the same on brick. Thank you for your video, perfect timing!

      @Melody-285 Před 3 lety

      LYNN Blount Wow - good timing ! I bet you were so excited to see this ! I think the key, like she said, is the layering - pick colors you like & then layer & blend - then sometimes layer some more - I think how you used the edge of the brush to either highlight or shade was really effective - good luck to you & your friend & have fun !

    Very pretty. I have to confess, I was not crazy about the grey. Loved it after you warmed it up a bit. I would love to see you paint the fire box either black or dark brown (if they have it in the dark brown) in that high heat paint. I think it is made by Rustoleum. Anyhow, any home improvement store should know what you are talking about if you ask them. We are looking to move as well and yes, I am already packing. At this time, not even planning to decorate for fall.
