I enjoyed the presentation; right to the point with no silly comedy that just wastes viewers time and nice job.
Wow..this is so much better than white washing and painting the brick. Red brick is a classic/urban look and you updated it without ruining the classic look. Good job!
My husband and I have had an ongoing disagreement about white washing our interior brick fireplace. This might be a nice compromise! Thank you so much :)
Great tutorial! What an amazing difference. Thanks again for stopping by the house and helping us with ideas yesterday, it was great to meet you both.
Greg White it was so great to meet you and I am really excited about your kitchen and master bedroom expansion It’s going to be amazing and please call or text if you guys have some questions.
You inspired me. I bought materials yesterday. Cleaned today. Going to take off tomorrow and hope to be totally done Thursday or Friday, including spraying my nasty silver fireplace insert.
wow! you did such an amazing job! I am having a huge dilemma with my brick fireplace and I think you may have solved it! Thank you - your step by step process is awesome and much appreciated! xo
Guys, I love it! I'm so proud of you!!!!'nnn
LOVE it! Makes SUCH a difference!!!
Thanks girl!! SO happy with how it turned out!
I watched the video 4 times and I am going to do it today!! 🤞
I also love it. We have an even darker brick and the existing mortar is almost black. I cant wait to get started to renew my fireplace. Oh yes, and my fire doors are also the shiny gold that will be transformed to the flat black look Thanks so much.
looks so good. made it look easy
Beautiful work
Amazing work!
Tip - "scuff" the brass fireplace cover first with fine grit sandpaper before painting it for better adhesion ...... 200 - 400 grit , or a sanding sponge (those work great and you can use 100 grit with those , just don't sand real hard) but always scuff up a slick surface before painting , and maybe even use a primer undercoater too , or you might have problems later with peeling , chipping paint ..... the microscopic "scratches" give the paint something to "grab and hold on to" , no need to "sand it hard" , just scuff it up a bit , create a slightly rougher surface , "dull the shine" a bit ..... Very important or you'll possibly be very sorry later .... paint doesn't stick well to slick shiny surfaces , I don't care what the can says
I loved that! I'm going to give it a try. Subscribed to your channel
You did a great Job!!! I've seen many of these on youtube, and I really like this because it shows the brick and looks more natural. How well is the color of the grout holding up now? Some have used paint or mortar. Any reason why you recommend grout to these others? Thanks for sharing!!!
That looks great! My question is how did you run all of the power and cabling to the TV through the brick or is the TV just there for the look?
Great job! How did you mount the TV to your brick fireplace? The cables appear to be hidden and I'm looking to do the same thing to my fireplace
I love it!
Best tutorial in the world like whole wide world
Love it! can you share where can I buy that platform that you used from?
Very nice!
Awesome, thank you!☀️
That looks fantastic! Can you use a pre mix grout?
I am wondering where you purchased your white mortar mix? I am having a hard time finding white mortar. I am actually building a brick wall so I am not sure that grout would be strong enough to handle the weight.
I want to do this to the outside of house. I want a very light German schmear I still want to see my brick. Do you think this would work for the whole outside of the house?
I watched this several times but just couldn't get the grout consistency right. Either it wouldn't come out of the grout bag or it pored out. After two hours, I gave up. You make it look so easy!!
Love this! Did you remove all grout before redoing it? How has it held up over time?
This is amazing and exactly what I'm looking for! Could this be accomplished with paint as well?
did the mortar outside stand the test of weather and time? thinking of doing this to a brick wall on my house outside but unsure it will last.
Clearly i could see a good upgrade to the brick.
Personally i don't like the pattern and way you spread it at all. But i guess everybody have personal likes.
Thanks for sharing. I learned from your video.
I have Chicago brick floors that were previously sealed. They are almost the same color as my kitchen cabinets as is. I want to lighten the brick floors and thought that white washing be a good idea; however was told that because the bricks were sealed, I could not do a traditional white wash. Any ideas of how I could get a white wash look on a sealed brick floor and it be durable?
Amazing job! I would like to change my bright brass fire place screen to black. Is yours holding up? I am worried it would simply flake off. Thanks
evidencebased1 I recently did the same to my brass screen and the paint isn’t going anywhere.
Do you have any suggestions about how to do this on a brick exterior of a home? My house is dark red brick with brown mortar. It’s terrible.
Looks great! Did you use any paint?
I have watched tons of tutorials on this update and this is by far the best that I have seen. Thank you. Just subscribed! Did you remove any of the old grout first? Thanks!
Did anyone answer this question, do you remove old grout?
Our fireplace is very similar in color and size. Planning to do this project this weekend - excited but also a bit nervous! Can you be any more specific about roughly how long you left the mortar after piping until you rubbed it off with finger/back of paint brush? Thanks!!
My question too, but watching other videos I am guessing 5-15 mins….
Did you add sand to the mortar mix?
Wish I read this before my whitewash today! that's exactly the result I wanted!
How did you route your tv cables through the fireplace so they are not visible?
Something tells me this is one of those projects that look better at a distance
progholio nope! It’s even more gorgeous in person!
Would this work outside?
Te ganaste mi like hermosa
What if I want white brick and black grout how do I do that
Did you dig out the old mortar before adding the white? U seem to have more room than I do in mine.
I have the same question.
Iio
Am I the only one who liked the previous better? looked much cleaner!
Is this gray grout?!?
Great tutorial, but I'm not a fan of that smeared white look.
believe it or not , they make a "mortar joint TOOL" and it costs $5 !!!!! You bought the mortar bag , the joint tool was probably right next to it in the store !!!!!! ...... DO NOT use "The back of the brush" , and I think you found that out pretty quickly , the back of the brush is too "pointy" and gouges out the mortar , you also want to wet the brick and mortar first before application , spray bottle mist basically
anyone can definitely do it if it looks like that, wholly fuck a molly what a disaster!
Well that is amazing quick easy steps on have to ugly up your brick. The reason I am looking at this site is I was thinking of buying a house but somebody has put that ugly crap on the brick. I’m trying to find somebody who can tell me what it would cost to remove that ugly stuff And get back to the beautiful brick. Regular brick can be brought back to his original beauty with soft wash. This just looks like somebody went out with all their heart and soul to ugly the brick up somehow
Wow! No kindness here. If you don’t like it, keep it to yourself; nobody’s forcing you. To answer your question, muriatic acid.
I am sorry but is it only me who kindda liked "before" more than the "after"?
Thirty somethings with five year old minds. Blowing bubbles really?
Why would you want to ruin a beautiful brick fire place like that and show your dodgy DIY work to the world
