  • WELL its time for a change of pace. I've had lots of requests for some more of "regular stuff you do" videos and now its time for a quick and easy oil change on the Esprit. This is my '99 Esprit I've had for almost 4 years, and its time for its annual oil change. I only have time to drive it 1200-1500 miles a year so changing the oil by time and not mileage is what I do.
These cars use a thicker oil, I use 10w-60 Eurocar. The twin turbo V8 technically does hold 9-10 quarts however during an oil change most people find 7 quarts will fill them up. They have oil coolers and lines that run to the front and it is NOT a good idea to drain them. Doing so can create air pockets in them and starve the engine of oil.
Anytime I get a car, any car, on the rack for whatever task may be at hand I always spend a few minutes checking things out. This car is no different. Thankfully no new issues were found but I still have.a few nagging leaks... after all this car is British. The axle seals on these cars are a notorious leak, and I have replaced them twice. I have heard there's a new designed O-ring that solves the leak but at this point I'll just keep it full until its time to pull it all out.
Check out www.jm3oilfilterwrench.com for a tool like mine to remove your filter.
I hope you enjoyed the different type of video! As always, I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!

Keep this up bro, It doesn't matter if it's a massive engine tear down, or if you feel like fully detailing a rust bucket.. this content works and i'd assume most of us goofballs are here just to get better insight on how folks work on their vehicles.

Is this a "Rainman Ray" vs "I do cars" deal😂😂😂. My two favorite channels. You two need to collab.

Eric we would watch you sweep your garage every week! Why? Because you are one of us. Down 2 earth car dude who loves working on them and talking about them with the passion that if you want it done right you need to do it yourself! No stupid back ground music, no stupid overproduction, no stupid sales pitch for sponsored crap that has nothing to do with the channel/content. Ya tell like it like it is and we enjoy it! Thanks for what you do and keep it up!

    French Transmission... worse, definitely worse.

The Esprit V8 is one of the best looking cars. I've wanted one since they came out!

Love the car, love the color and really love the sound of the exhaust. It's a shame that we don't have small/boutique (But not uber rare) car manufacturers like Lotus over here. My friend has an Exige S and I got to drive it both on the street and also on the track. Absolutely fantastic car. Speed through simplicity and weight reduction. I'll take it 10 out of 10 times.

I bought a 2000 with 4k on it in 2002, fulfilling a childhood dream, and had it for 2.5 years. Tremendously fun car!

  • @davejt1967

Hey Eric. For oil filters mounted like that why not fill the new one with fresh oil so it doesn't take so long to fill the oil galleries and build pressure? That's what I do.

  • @chuckh.2227

    How do you know?

  • @morefasterer

I was today years old when I discovered you've got an Esprit V8. What a fantastic car & a real pleasure to see you making videos about it!

  • @russellforrest1730

Nice! 16 minutes of calm collected peace in a world in turmoil.

  • @brendanmccabe8769

Only just realised you have video's other than the engine strip-downs, really great to see this one, always liked the Esprit, I even like the colour.

  • @teejayArts

Are you kidding! this video was super exciting! Any content with your lotus is exciting to me.

  • @tomkelley8732

When I was a kid there was a Europa that sat out in the street around the block from our house. It just sat there for 2 years and I never seen it move. I was apx.13 years old and I thought it was so cool! Its the only 1 I've ever seen in real life. Your Esprit is great, I never know they could have a V 8 in them. Now that I'm old enough to buy something like this (just retired) you made a good sales pitch.

  • @therealebolaboy

That car looks amazing underneath. Nice hardware!

  • @jamesmancuso3666

This car is the reason I found your channel. The twin turbo v8 is the best last version of a great car.

  • @gryfandjane

Good episode! Having kept my MG alive for 28 years now, I’ll add my plug for British cars. 😊

  • @zzzzzsleeping

Hey, my son owned a lotus v8 too, I also owned 1999 but I sold it 2 years ago (same yellow)

  • @davidtroia7573

That car is beautiful and sound really great!! I watch so many of ur videos and really enjoy watching u tear engines down and would really enjoy doing that. I work in collision repair so I don't get to have the fun of tearing down engines. Love ur channel!!
