I like the subtle aspects of Drake's character. Like him wearing a cross, or how he learned to hold a baby properly, or him telling Blade "the thirst always wins." He feels like he has an actual origin story, just one we don't get to see.

ye i always liked how he seems to 1 have a interesting backstory and 2 his abilites are a mix of supernatural but also just being biologically complex like the blood god is truly supernautral but the virus he made to gift drake his power seems completely biological my question is did the blood god directly make the virus or is the virus something drake had when he was turned that got mutated supernaturally to spread the vampire curse abit like in underwrorld or others. i personally like to think as a warrior who as he said lived by the sword he got infected with a virus that was gonna kill him so he made offerings to the blood god and was turned as a result because alot of warriors back then saw dying of illness a less honorable death then combat so it would make sense for drake to make a deal that would allow him to only die to his equal in combat

@Nix91 In most vampire stories, it's just their "blood" thinning out and them losing powers because they keep adding in humans in their gene pool.
But it could also be a more active event. Like how elephants of today are losing their tusks, the tyrannical split mouth vampires that didn't hide probably got hunted to extinction at some point and the "mutated" vampires that are weaker and look more human that blended in human society is survived and that's how they lived ever since.

Personally, I think Drake's strongest line was "Sooner or later, the thirst ALWAYS wins". You could hear his bittersweet amusement in those words and it makes you realize that there is a story there. That his ancient creature that kills without conscience might not have always been that way. That at one time, the original vampire might have once been like Blade. A young man turned into some unknown thing, alone among humans with lethal urges that he had to struggle to control every day. Until one day, like an addict that's been on the wagon for years, the struggle just became too much. 😱

Drake implies that he is the only pure vampire daywalker to ever exist. I think that the idea that La'Ma'gra impregnated a human women makes sense. Its possible he grew up human then at a certain age his vampiric nature kick in. It would also explain why he seemed to feel a connection with Blade beyond the fact that they were both real warriors. He also may not have been talking about their physical characteristics when he said that current vampires were a shadow of their former selves. He may have been referring to how they are no longer warriors and conquerors. That seemed to be more in line with his character, he would shun all the hiding and running businesses to gain power. He seems more like the raise an army and kill all your enemies kind of guy. They definitely missed an incredible opportunity to enhance Blade by not expanding his back story.

I believe the reapers are definitely a devolution, if only for the simple fact that the human body can only change so much at a time before it becomes destructive. The body has a sophisticated system and cycles that needs to be respected and given time to gradually go from from one step to the next. The reaper strain violently overrides these systems and never allows for proper rest and recovery. Basically it runs human body ragged, so unless you were already a vampire or some sort of meta human you will most likely not survive for long or be able to control your “altered” self.

Drake knowing that the daystar virus would wipe out existing Vampires and that Blade would live on gave him peace knowing that the diluted lines are done with and that if Blade was to restart the vamperic lines they might be far more capable than the original strains.

As for being able to find out what Drake's armor looked like from one scale, that was merely bad narration on the writers' part...sure, they had one scale (which was shaped closer to a shark's scale than those of a reptile), but they also had manuscripts and murals throughout history to work with. (Remember that mosaic used several times in this very video?) The scales were on the forearms and upper legs of the armor, as were two pauldrons, one with large studs and the other with an axe-like blade. The center of the breastplate was more like a bat-wing shaped gorget bearing Drake's personal glyph (hist chest has a scar to match) flanked by two plates which have ribs fluted into them. This is over several sections of chainmail, silver (color, not the actual metal( for the shoulders and armpits, red at the insides of the elbows and back of the knees. At Drake's throat was more maille in both silver and red, the red coming from his throat, down his chest under his breastplate, and hanging past his waist. Most notable is the woven leather vest he wore in many scenes...out of all of the armor worn in the film, that vest and one arm were the main pieces he wore in the last fight against Blade...the vest was made by Rebecca Sevrin, who also made Selene's coat for the Underworld series.

Eventually, "Drake" went into seclusion in the ancient tomb. This is how I understood it, of course it is open to anyone's interpretation since nothing in this video or in blade 3 ever sets it in stone. Also just because he appears to die at the end of blade 3, it doesn't mean that he did...he probably just went into stasis, until he could make his escape, only to go back into seclusion knowing that the future of vampires was safely in the hands of blade.

In marvel comics it was an ancient atlantean sorcerer named varnae, multiple myths attribute caine as the 1st vampire because he committed the first murder and GOD cursed caine to walk the earth, never to find comfort ir rest from the earth, and finally GOD marked him in a way so that all who seen him would know who and what he did but could not kill him. Of course if heard and read myths that say judas iscariot was the first vampire and because he betrayed Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver, he suffers from a weakness to silver. The reality is that vampires aren't real and were meant to be an anti-jesus if you will..the vamires weakness' are representatons of the death and resurrection of Christ. For instance the vampire cannot cross running water ,because christ said from me flows the river of life, 2.silver, because Christ was betrayed with 30 pieces of silver,3. Rose thorns, because Christ was forced to wear a crown of rose thorns when he was crucified, 4.sunlight, is just a metaphor for Christ's tranfiguration after his resurrection and all of our sins were burnt away,5. The stake turn the heart ( originally supposed to be a branch from a live olive tree) representing the ritual of anointing the dead with olive oil. I think I've made my point and have gone completely of track. My simple answer is no, it was not "ripped off " of anything ...it just seems to make the most sense in my imagination ( if I were to believe in vampires) besides I didn't write the movie, so I definitely couldn't have ripped off anything.

@@whitetallon8784 Not every vampire myth...heck, many classic vampire myths say that vampires aren't even created by other vampires, but arise from any number of circumstances. It's even canonical that vampires in the Blade movie universe don't share blood to turn someone, something we're shown in the first film. Frost's goon, Quinn, bites Dr. Jansen and feeds from her, but never exchanges blood, and yet Whistler treats the wound with a solution of garlic in hopes of slowing or preventing her turning, until she manages to create the infamous vampire "cure" that would later save Hannibal King. Heck, in the opening scene, we see Blade's mother with profuse amounts of blood pouring from her neck, but no signs of blood on her mouth to suggest she was made to drink Frost's blood in exchange, and yet she's a vampire.
However, it's entirely possible that Drake couldn't pass on his stronger abilities to a person who was born a vampire rather than turned via a bite...the idea of re-infecting someone with a stronger version of a virus that's already part of their genetic code seems considerably less likely than Drake being able to make a new vampire that would have his stronger strain, and thus be capable of walking in daylight. The other possibility is that his being the first means he can choose whether or not his bite will infect, as a means of precision selection of only those who would best handle the change.

The idea of "born vampires/purebloods" was not a thing, nor the elaborate clan structure the movies feature, last I recall. If it was a direct corelation, then Dracula would not have been some weird Sumerian quasi-deity, Frost would've instead been reviled by other vampires for having turned himself through science and experimentation with vampire blood, and King would've still been a vampire, albeit one who didn't drink living blood, who was turned by _Frost,_ not some random made-for-the-movie vampire. There wouldn't have been some kind of scientific cure, and Blade wouldn't have been some kind of weird hybrid. Literally, up until the movies, he was just immune to the vampiric ability to mesmerize. It wasn't until the movies took off that they retconned it into main comic story.
If anything, the vampire "ancestor" would've at best been Varney, or perhaps they could've gotten Ch'thon and/or the Darkhold involved, brought in Dr. Strange and the Montesi formula, but that's probably way more confusing than it needs to be for a very "street level" take on the character of Blade. Probably why they didn't involve the secondary characters until the third movie, and even that was barely there, given that they wrote off the entirety of Hannibal King's story, and excised Frank Drake completely.

La Magra was just too powerful and could not use the body, so the blood god decided to impregnate Drake's mother, giving itself a child. There you get Drake. Sound reasonable to me.

And Blade makes short work of him in the final fight. Nomack was a bigger threat to him. I wanted to this awesome, next to impossible to take down villain. Also take notice how he has similar features to the Reaper strain with no draw backs in terms of them being very aggressive (accept they cannot control it), stronger than average vamps, his mouth opens up like a Reaper vamp, he needed to feed a lot to get back to strength while Feeding a lot is an addiction in a sense to reaper vamps. It seems like the reaper strain had brought out some of the original features that "Drake" had because although it was flawed, it was presenting past genetic things like the mouth and more vampiric look in the teeth. Reaper vamps also had harder bones to protect them from being staked in the heart without knowing the angle to push the stake in while Drake has unique features to his bones in general that allow him to shape shift so an alteration to genetics could allow a reaper infected host bones to change as all of the reapers were former human or vamps with normal bodies outside of vampirism and didn't have this feature to protect their heart at first until infected.

I've been working on a functional replica of Drake's sword for some time now... The most difficult part has been finding a screen accurate blade with the right geometry, or something close enough that would require minimal modification. It's got a really weird shape that's wider at the end and slims down towards the hilt, and a sorta geometrically ground tip. I'm using copper and bronze for the ornate portions on the spine of the blade and the guard, figured this would be best since these materials are more accurate to the period of Drake's origin. I'll be using a real human femur for the hilt as well which will probably be one of, if not *the* most expensive aspects of the whole thing if I'm being honest (genuine human remains of any kind are not cheap!).
It's one of those projects that's been on my "to do" list for ages and I've only just recently begun to acquire some of the initial materials to get started. Initially I had just intended on creating a nice replica of the prop, but I finally said "screw it" and decided to make something fully functional and useable. It will be totally capable of slaying both daywalkers and humans alike with ease by the time I'm done with it... I'll try to remember to get some pics sent to you when I'm finished along with a few photos of some of my other "Blade" related props/items I've made and some of the other vampire shit I've done over the years (vampire hunting kit, 'Stake/Spike Launcher' from "Dracula 2000", etc.).

I found the character of Drake--Dracula---to be intriguing and riveting. He was a warrior king, and he had his own sense of honor. Of course, he distained the modern vampires---they were degenerate, in both mind and body. Just look at their actions. They strutted and posed like jumped up petty thugs. They were petty and vindictive. Their actions were more petty, even juvenile, sadistic, vicious and cowardly. As far as Drake was concerned, these modern vampires had been given the gift of vampirism, but did not appreciate it. They continued to act like petty, vain mortals. He was a warrior king and they were cheap gang banger thugs. He was plain in his contempt for them. Just from the look on his face you could tell he was wondering how someone could have bestowed the gift of vampirism on these low lifes. Drake was not a good guy---he was brutal and murderous. But he was not petty or juvenile. And you just know that he had a code of honor that he believed in and followed. I also got the impression that Drake was contemptuous of the vampires "farming" humans. To Drake, vampires were born to hunt the night, and to do less was lowering yourself.
I got the feeling from the performance of the actor that Drake distained what the modern vampires had done to Blade. I don't think he liked how they had brought Blade down with tricks and human intervention, rather than face him, man to man, blade to blade. Drake looked on Blade, perhaps not as an equal, but as a foe to be respected.
I loved how he said "the thirst always wins". Filled with bitterness, but acceptance and knowledge. The performance of the actor playing Drake was wonderful, it gave the character a depth and personality. You knew there had to be a story, a great one, here and you wanted to hear. It made me wonder if Drake was not so different from Blade. Perhaps he too had tried to control his thirst and to live as a man, only to eventually lose as his vampire side was too strong. Might that not be the fate that awaits Blade eventually? It's too bad that they never made a movie with the Drake character and actor, showing his origin and past.
Drake honored and respected Blade, and he showed it. He faced Blade when he did not need to do so. To him, it was honorable combat. Warrior to warrior. And it would give the loser an honorable death. It showed most especially at the end, when Drake lay dying at Blade's hand. He gave Blade a gift, by assuming Blade's form before he died. He was giving Blade back his life and freedom---the life that had been taken through dishonorable means by the other vampires. The authorities would find "Blade's" dead body, and that would end any human hunt for him. A last gift to an honorable foe. I always thought it was a bad idea when they tacked on that extra footage at the end, showing the body at autopsy, turning from Blade's form back into Drake. In the original theatre showing, the movie ended with Blade's dead body being found, and the police closing the case. And then we see a last shot of Blade, alive and well, driving off into the distance.
The studio tacked that autopsy scene on because they figured the viewing public was too stupid to get the idea of what had happened. It made no sense for Drake's body to turn into another form after he died. It negated his final gift to Blade. I could see if the body suddenly deteriorated as time caught up to it, crumbling to dust. But it would make no sense for Drake to go to the trouble, using his final strength and last moments, to assume Blade's form if he knew that the disguise would fade a few hours later. It would make his gift to Blade, his gesture to a fellow warrior, empty.
Drake was a fabulous and intriguing character and I wish we had gotten more of him and less of the "gang banger" street thug vampires. During the movie I kept hoping that both Drake and Blade would survive, so they could meet again sometime. But perhaps Drake was content to die finally, knowing that that his vampire bloodline was safe with Blade, a strong and honorable warrior.

I honestly like Blade Trinity, though it did kinda have to grow on me. At first, being a fan of the comic book version of the Nightstalkers, and particularly of that version of Hannibal King, this take put me off big time. But I came around over time, and actually really like this version of King as his own character. I do still sometimes wish that they'd done something closer to the comics, where for a time, he was something closer to movie-verse Blade: a "vampire" who didn't need blood, could walk in the daylight, etc. Could've easily explained it as the "cure" not being meant to work on someone who'd been turned for that long (in the comics, it's implied that King was turned in the 1940s, while investigating a case involving Deacon Frost), and thus rendering him stuck kind of halfway between human and vampire. Would've given a great reason for him and Blade to not get along.
As for Drake, I generally love him in concept. I just wish they'd given us a little more about him, what makes him so significant besides being the "first vampire." Do we assume that he turned all of those who would end up becoming the originators of the various vampire houses? Or were they his children in the more literal sense? If he was having to interbreed with human women in order to create those who were born vampires, then it might account for why their lines began to weaken and diminish, particularly if those children then also took human mates, further thinning the blood until a greater number of vampires were turned rather than born. Also, I continue to wonder at the ending...you'd presume that holding another shape takes concentration, a certain measure of deliberate intent, which suggests that it was not Drake's dead body that was brought to the FBI morgue in place of Blade, but rather a still very much alive first vampire. After all, it certainly appears that the virus wasn't affecting him as aggressively as it did the other vampires, implying that while his blood was needed to create the final version that would dispatch any vampires exposed to it, it didn't mean that he would be killed by Daystar in the same way. After all, the blackening of the skin that we see in the other vampires is much slower as it starts to appear, and it seems to present much less aggressively and visibly, suggesting that his body was trying to fight it off.
Basically, I'd love to see him show back up, if they were to revisit the series. I'd also love it if they'd throw us some more of the Nightstalkers, since we're shown in one of the alternate endings that Whistler and King did in fact stay together to hunt other forms of supernatural predators (in this case, werewolves), possibly recruiting more to the cause. I also would love to see what comes of Daystar, since I really can't figure out how they expected it to wipe out all vampires. An airborne virus isn't going to travel _that_ far, no matter what you do to make it. Without some way to expand its range, it really shouldn't pass beyond the Talos building, or the city at best, meaning that there would still be vampires out there in the world. Especially since infectees seem to die almost instantly, leaving no way for them to carry it and pass it along further.
Basically, what I'm saying is that the ending is full of plot hooks and red herrings, and I'd love to see Marvel do something with it.

    • @TheoRae8289
      @TheoRae8289 Před 2 měsíci

it might have been airborne, but I suspect Daystar could be carried by humans asymptomatically. I mean, we do have pandemic level events across history that show that even things in isolated regions can get out.

    • @Mokiefraggle
      @Mokiefraggle Před 2 měsíci

@@TheoRae8289 Yeah, but that seems dangerous. Either the only ones who have Daystar in their blood are the Nightstalkers and whatever random familiars were in the Talos building, or it passes on asymptomatically to humans who would have to probably get perilously close to vampires (possibly even be fed on, risking their death) to infect the vampires.
Airborne would be the most sensible, but it was released in an enclosed building, and all those it was meant to infect were turned to dust as a result...meaning that it likely couldn't actually spread on a large scale, and definitely wouldn't be crossing any oceans or anything.

I do believe the reason vampires became so weak and so "allergic" to many things was because of their own empire collapsing. Under Drake no doubt the first vampires were incredibly strong, and almost conquered the world. However due to human nature to be easily tempted no doubt that many lords could have caused inbreeding between them, or perhaps their hunger for power and treasure lead to dilution of the blood line, resulting in the first weakness and that being silver. With that Dracula was so disgusted with his children becoming so weak, that after he left that's where the real problem began. Without drake there was a massive hole in the vampire higharchy that infighting lead to them losing more power and lead to humans finally reveling against them.
This lead them to go into hiding and to change their forms to appear more human looking, which forced a devolution on them which resulting in them no doubt becoming intolerant to sunlight (due to have gone into hiding for many years) and later on developing an allergic reaction to garlic. Also since they couldn't feed on high grade blood like they used to, this is what led to them no longer having super strength or speed.
So a combination of inbreeding, infighting, going into hiding and malnourishment is what lead to vampires being like they are in modern times.

Kill 1 Man you are a Murderer.
    Kill 100; a King.
    Kill them all; a God.
Not sure why this Blade met with such disdain. I enjoyed it in the theatre✌️

lot of production and writing issues, especially with Wesley not cooperating during filming. (like they had to CGI his eyes opening in a scene because Wesley refused, and Ryan spent a lot of his scenes with him acting against nothing)

Drake is monstrous and a macho vampire!!!! And Dominic Purcell did a badass job portraying this badass vamp

I'd love a movie that alters the history+alternate timeline like in Back to the Future). How would Drake react to the Reapers or LaMogra enhanced Frost? I bet he would have been disgusted enough to help Blade set the timeline right.

imagine if they had needed to find Drake to have a chance at La Magra?

Them telling drake that they want him to kill blade sounds to me like it was a way to try and get him interested in staying with them, before they told him and him talking about his disappointment sounds like he wanted to leave them, but after they told him about blade and him walking in the day, like him, kinda piqued his interest someone like him, a daywalker, not someone as malformed as them, someone unique and someone that propobly could give him a good honest fight.
