  • Trouble on the road made enjoying a leisurely ride through the mountains difficult in this motorcycle adventure on my BMW R1200RT.

I just love watching and listening to riders experiencing new things! Even though I've been riding for a long time, it makes me want to get out and experience the same thrill. Stepping outside of our comfort zones is never easy however, especially on motorcycles. You did absolutely fine, and no one can fault someone for recognizing they are pushing themselves beyond their skillset. With enough practice, you'll be able to tackle those tougher roads in time. Keep it up, and keep the videos coming! Cheers!

Hi Melissa, I like watching your videos because you are so honest with yourself. Don't be ashamed or worry about your abilities thus far. You'll get there. I do recommend on you doing some slow speed practice in an empty parking lot. It will help you a great deal when you encounter roads like you did. I was like you as at one time and only rode on the highway with straight roads. Then I did not like my limitations and did something about it. I am a better confident rider now. Every time I'm going on a ride, I practice a slow u-turn, turn from a stop and slow race just in my driveway. Trust me it helps. There're lots of info on youtube. Use it. It will change your fear. I am rooting for you.

Thank you so much! I try every day to better my skills. In 2024 I am planning a couple different advanced courses and way more U turn practice on my own:) thanks for watching and commenting!

I like Alex’s jacket! It looks like he has fishnets on his arms and I bet it’s really nice on those hot days 😜

I've given up on the Wild A$$ seat, I never ended up getting it to feel good. I have a new seat cover that I LOVE....but that's for another video!

Its good to push your limits, but even better to know when its too far. Just keep riding and practicing. This is suppose to be fun. Keep it that way. I know people who have been riding for years that would not have gone down that road. Ride safe and keep recording :)

I just got back from Beartooth Pass on the K1600GTL. It was windy and slow speed and no guard rail. I feel for you as there were times when the wind was strong and as I said before the K1600 is a beast at slow speeds. My wife was on the back and although it was a great experience, i was saying my prayers all the. time I take my hat my hat off to you for including the tough parts. Well done and stay upright.

You did right turning around on the gravel road, your just learning and on such a big heavy bike it could have been a disaster. Well done Mel

A really honest and great journey. Never do anything that makes you nervous as it only grows and becomes a mountain to cross later. An interesting read is the UK police motorcycle handbook called Roadcraft. Will make enjoy the bends better. Highly recommended 👍👍 Well done and keep posting.

Yeah sometimes that can happen and it means that this time the fear was too big for your cool. To up grade this relationship we must insist gradually to push ourselves over our comfort zone, step by step. Once in a while we have to trade pleasure of riding for knowledge pushing up our limits or our limited skills but it’s essential to do things properly. Going on gravel roads with adequate tyres, doing on a dirt bike or a lighter machine, all this can help to gain confidence! Nice video . Thank you.

@@melissasmotorcycleadventures Yes that means also that you’re on a vehicle with only two wheels. You can run but you can’t hide, it’s of that kind. In order to feel well we have a lot of bitter moments before it really turns all sweet 😃✌️✌️Hope you keep on enjoying this marvelous machines!

Great video. I ride a K1600GTL (018). It is a heavy beast in the parking lot. But on the highway goes like a dream. However, I like the R1200RT, a few pounds lighter and less expensive to maintain. Stay upright

Hi Melissa, Thanks for sharing this video. There is nothing to be ashamed about. You know what you're capable of. You will grow more as a rider through experience. There is no need to rush anything. And as far as the 🐝 goes. That sucks!!! Happened to me many times!!!

EXACTLY WHY WOMAN LIVE LONGER THEN men!
At 14 I picked up my Uncle's 47 Indian Chief off the garage floor and my cousin began teaching me to ride. It was 2.5 miles to the (hardball) county road so gravel was my first ride. Fast forward 40 odd years and I turned up a gravel road to a gun shop expecting the guy riding with me, would be right behind me. After all he'd had a lifetime of racing motocross under his belt, but taking his Road Glide on gravel was new.
Encouragement and insistence are two completely different things and as teachers we need to always consider this! Now when I used to force a Special Forces soldiers to endure the Arctic cold for training I had the benefit of his EGO and peer pressure to get him through the task.
Next time you are on the gravel hill, maybe have your partner ride ahead of the curve to ensure no traffic comes as you ride the center of the road till you are comfortable??? Fact of gravel/sand and motorcycles is momentum; too slow and your gyroscopes fall over, too fast and you lose the feeling of control. Keep your right hand off the brake lever, keep even consistent speed and do NOT try to correct the path. Those gyroscopes at speed want to stay up and have already gotten passed the rocks which you felt in the bars so twisting to correct causes an oversteer and for you to fall.
Men (EGO) tough it out, for fear of losing face and too often wreck instead of learning to handle minimum traction scenarios.
At 57 I am impressed with your riding and willingness to learn. Don't ever think or act like you know it all or can do it all, that's a recipe for disaster.
Thank You for the Beautiful scenery. Friends and I had a kickers only tour through your state and up to Maine last fall. The nights I spent wrenching on old bikes never detracted from great days of beautiful foliage. Always remember it's the ride not the destination we biker's seek.
    You are in my prayers
    Hoka Hey
