  • I take an adventure to Ocean City, Maryland to determine whether I'm keeping my BMW R1200 RT or replacing it with a BMW GS.

I think you’ll like the GS as a taller rider. I’m 6’-0 tall and have been on the smaller BMW F750 GS for about 6 months now and love the motorcycle and comfortable riding position. It’s a great all around bike that is off road capable. I put the Vario top case and side bags on it, changed out the stock windshield to a Madstad 18-inch adjustable one and now it’s fully touring ready. Good luck in your decision!

Hi Melissa, Just found your channel, excellent content! I have a 2019 1250RT and a 2018 1200GS, however lately I find I am favouring the RT more and more for trips and days out, and I don't take my GS of road, it cost to much for that risk. My issue with the RT is the more sporty position giving a tighter angle at the knees.

Thanks for the comment! I'm considering getting the lower pegs on the RT. I heard that even though it's a small amount, it makes a big difference on the angle :)

It's been many years since ibjad Thrasher's frechfries. As a child, my mommwould take us to Rehobeth Beach every summer. Rehobeth has changed quite a bit. I love the board walk and all the shops. I digress, as i was taking a stoll down memory lane. I can't help with your choice. All I will say is, you will know what's right for when you ride it. It will be polarizing.

Hope to try the RT someday but I'm in Vermont with miles and miles of good gravel roads. I found a twenty one inch front wheel overkill and a bit unwieldy since I wasn't going over logs and such. . My Triumph GT 1200 explorer with a nineteen inch front and eighteen rear is eating up both tar and dirt. Thanks for the video!

Very well made video. that would be an even better ride on a sunny day. I’m sure. It’s good you have options of bikes to ride.

My opinion on your options, I have owned an adventure bike although it was called a trail bike in the 80s. I currently own a 1200rt and use it for all my riding in small country 99% tarmac roads.
Have tried the 1250GS this season and I find it much lighter to ride although it’s heavier than the the RT. I like the feel of the RT better for long rides because I fell more protected from the elements, wind, rain and truck side wind bursts. I like the weight of the RT, I feel like it is a more stable ride than the GS.
I would consider the GS though because I like the versatility of the bike if I want to go on trail for camping or exploring out of car encounters in the outback’s of Vermont, NY and new amp shire. How often would I do that though, maybe 10% of my rides, am I willing to give up the safe feeling of the RT for that? I am still not convinced but I know I will still consider the GS🧐
    Best of luck
PS absolutely get a riser for the RT, I just installed one in mine and my shoulders feel a lot less sensitive.

I totally get what you're saying. I know I'm not going to go off roading that much so I really feel like the RT is going to be the most comfortable for the road trips. ps stay tuned for my next videos...I did get the risers, highway pegs and a new short windscreen...all of which were life changing for me :)

I had the RT, loved it, until I rode the R1250GS. Hands down a better bike. Period. I am 5'7" and it's perfect. I traded in the RT for the R18 so I now have the best of both worlds. Love you channel!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I've done some upgrades to my RT now so I may just need to do what you did...get another bike to have the best of both worlds 🤣🤣

If your planning on going to Alaska than a GS is a great bike. You may want to ride smaller GS model. Gravel roads, new rider & 1250 GS.
That's a lot of extra weight & power that you really don't need to have a fun ride.
Goal is to be a confident rider, not afraid when roadway surface changes.
    Never stop learning😊

Try it for comfort. Get the low seat. You’ve definitely earned the right to ride it with all your adventures. More than most GS riders will ever do 😊😊

From a 1600 GTL, I changed to a 2022 BMW R1250 GSA. Definitely, there is no going back. Very comfortable, safer, and love the suspension. Take note, I am 78, 5'4" with 29 inseam, now with a low suspension GSA. Here's my review czcams.com/video/g3EsJYjEhVg/video.html

yes, get risers, then swap the seat for a saddlemen seat, then swap the engine for a vtwin, then swap the bike for a harley, then you're good to go! I love that bridge! Wait, you're doing what on the bridge?!?!

Get the GS! Once you switch to an ADV bike you’ll never go back! As a tall rider I can guarantee it’s a lot more comfortable if you do an all day ride!

I prefer the riding position of an adventure bike. Its great for touring. You do get wind on the legs, Not sure there is anything you can do about that.
I ride down often just for Thrashers and people watching.

      Enjoy the ride
And the Machine you Ride. I have Rode Moab, Colorado Alpine Loop, continental divide Trail, New Mexico BDR ect,, weight of a heavy bike off road, not pleasant in other words weight “SUCKS”
Especially after you load it down with your gear.
      Enjoy your adventure journeys.

BMW. Bring my wallet. Lol. Nice video. If you want to ride off road you'll likely want something lighter and easier to manage;) just saying!!!
